There was a thread today on the Federal Corvette. I will be honest and admit I am not a fan of massive ships in a game like this, if not designed right they can become overpowering to every other ship. But it got me thinking, if I could look over the shoulder of the FD Devs, what ship would I like to see introduced. So without further fanfare, here are three suggestions.
THE FALCON
Think of an Eagle on steroids. Same design, but the size of a Vulture, 1 Large hardpoint, centrally located, 2 Medium hardpoints port/starboard with 2 utility mounts. The ship is powered by a Class 4 power plant and Class 5 thrusters so power management will be an issue. But due to the size, it only a Class 3 Shield Generator and Class 3 FSD can be fitted. Internally, being a pure fighter, there are only 2 Class 2 and 2 Class 1 compartments, so chose wisely on your fitout.\
This ship is a pure fighter, and under the control of the right Commander will prove lethal if he learns the correct 'hit and run' tactics. It is fast, it is agile, but it is also fragile, no prolonged slugfest because you will lose.
TYPE 6 PLUS
Take your standard, run of the mill Type 6 cargo, pretty boring huh. But what if you could add to it. Now available are cargo modules, each module holding 512T of cargo. The modules are sold in pairs that attach to the basic Type 6, left and right, and top and bottom. each module has two Class 1 hardpoints and a small power plant to augment the main one installed in your ship. But with all that weight comes with a waiver. For each pair of modules you lose 5% speed and 5% jump range and fuel consumption goes up 5%.
Your trade runs will be profitable, if you can survive the distance to your destination!
THE ALBATROSS
The product of an ill-gotten union between Anaconda and Adder, this ship was designed from the ground up to head out to where no one has gone before. Carrying a massive Class 6 FSD with extended Class 5 fuel tanks, this ship has very long legs for such a small ship. Protected by 3 medium hardpoints and 4 utility mounts, the Albatross can protect itself when required, even if the foe isn't human. Internally there are 6 compartments, 2 Size 3, 2 Size 2 and 2 Size 1.
When you positively, just have to get out in the black by yourself, you couldn't find a better ship than the Albatross.
I know there are fanciful, just musings of an idle mind. But I bet I am not the only one with the ideal ship floating around in my head, what is yours?
