Is your goal to be Elite?

System Lord, get out to the Neutron Star cluster around 14k Ly out all the way to about 24k Ly out near SAG A.
That got me with a trip to SAG A Exploration Elite. Took 12,250 systems and 155mil in exploring profit but i got there :)

I did pass through the area on my way back, but I don't see me returning there. It is too far away and I'd rather go to other direction. I like to try scanning every convenient non-ice planet I come across. Spaceman Spiff style.

you betcha I want to get to elite in all 3 fields eventually, I am in no particular rush.... currently sitting on expert, broker and ranger (combat, trading and exploring respectively) if it takes another 6 months or another 6 years to achieve it that is not an issue to me, having fun doing it is ultimately the best way to achieve those ranks IMHO

yeah, i'll get there some day. currently at Deadly 67%, Broker 48% and Surveyor 28%. i have no rush in either one particularly and just happily swap between the three roles as certain opportunities present themselves in the game, a large gold run at a station and i go trading, a big assassination bounty and i go a hunting and if i'm going somewhere i haven't been before, i take a scanner along with me.

I'm a King now which is a bit weird, but this doesn't actually mean anything in game which is a shame.

Working on Elite exploration currently.

I am going to try for ranking towards Elite when Iron-man mode is implememted. Until then it is just inevitable that everyone will get to Elite as no matter what happens your ranking goes up continually, faster or slower. In the default permanent god-mode of the game the rankings are meaningless.
When Iron-man is implemented it will really be something to meet an Elite commander, or be one. It may well be the case that Elite commanders are rare and maybe even non-existent as higher rankings are bound to be a huge target. Maybe there will be stories of those who made to Deadly only to be viciously killed. And mythical Elite commanders posting vids on youtube.
Until Iron-man though - I see no point to the rankings.

Im already Elite, been Elite since 1984 and 1993.

I have nothing left to prove so now im just a grumpy old man complaining about crappy new features.

I hope to get there one day, but not wanting to rush it. I cant lie I like watching counters fill and getting to elite is no different.

So i do not want to rush it as if i am triple elite before we get planetary landings etc, unless we get some new roles to build up to it will be a bummer for me.

Not sure I understand the need for Ironman mode. I mean, why not just delete your game when you die ? Why does the game have to do this for you ? Have I missed something ?

Getting at least one of the disciplines to Elite is one of my goals, but certainly not the goal! Currently on yet another deep space exploration trip with the goal of getting Elite in Exploration firmly in my sights :)

in a single player mode I agree. I did this with the original Elite.
However for Elite to mean anything in a universal sense, what it means to meet an Elite commander and for a level playing field there is need for an Iron-man mode. There was a lot of very good discussion about this in alpha and the kickstarter that lead to This Design Proposal.

Getting ranked in pilot fed or in naval progression doesn't bring you anything but glory for itself or gaining access to systems that have nothing different to free ones so why struggle for ranking?

Right now you don't even have to rank to be allowed to buy a Clipper.

I play for fun and sometimes throw a glance at ranking panel just to realise that, if I ranked up or not, it hasn't changed anything to me.

Just another thing DEVs could have developed in a deeper way but they didn't.

One of the first goals I ever wanted to achieve was going to Founder's world on my own merit the moment I read about it on this very forum. The result or value behind that isn't the point at all.

I missed out on being a backer. maybe that was intended so I play the game, maybe I would have quit by now if I had been a backer and had already gone.. Who knows.

I have a backlog of games I haven't touched since April 2 (day I bought ED), I play Diablo when ED is having server drama or need a break from ED. I also play ED on this PC, on the XB1 and stream players playing ED on Twitch.. AT THE SAME TIME. Is that sick or what? The point is that I don't think I'll make it to Elite in anything before I finally burn myself out (or Fallout 4 comes out), I can't do just one thing for very long before it gets grindy and I go do something else.

Anyway, my take on it..

Yeah, for sure :) I'd like to have the Elite Explorer decal, but I'm not busting a gut to get there. Just fooling about the galaxy is more fun. I'm at Pioneer level now and got there without focusing on it, so Elite is just the final stage and it will happen when it happens.

The game won't stop for me just because I get that rank.

because in ironman mode EVERYONE will face the same issues, and it is unlikely a player will risk blowing up someone without a good in game reason.

but to play ironman in open right now, against people who do not care if they blow up or not is a disaster waiting to happen, it would be a bit like playing Russian roulette with a manikin doll, there can only ever be 1 loser, and it isnt the doll!

Truth is that ship has sailed for me. I could not face starting again, but mass respect for those who do.
