Buying an Anaconda: Why ?

I now have enough to buy a D spec Anaconda.

Currently I have:

  1. Fast Trade Clipper - ~3 mil/hr. Reasonably fun
  2. A Spec Vulture - ~4.5 mil/hr. Fun.
  3. Long Range ASP - Just for scooting around. If I make cr great, but certainly not required.

Every post I've read has the Anaconda slow on small fry, wicked to land, enormously pricey to outfit and maintain. The real effectiveness is anchoring a kill wing.

Am I missing something ? Kinda pricey to just "try". (Really could say the same for Python)

Is it just bragging rights ?

Buy it for trading if anything for a start. Will bring you in 9 or more million an hour depending on your trade route.

The reason i want one is so i can trade like crazy and max out all the small ships i want to own. Going to do stupid stuff when i have tons of credits.

I bought one D spec'ed Anaconda two weeks ago, and I have 0 buyers regret. It's a wonderful trading machine, with 452t of cargo space and a shield generator for those "oopsy" moments on the mailslot. And when you have your pockets lined up, you can upgrade it to a very powerful war beast.
However, I will keep mine in trading mode. TBH, I prefer heavy fighters for the pew pew.

My lightly equipped trading Anaconda can haul 452 tons of cargo across almost 100ly of space with a maximum single jump range of ~20,4ly without refueling. The A4 shields are crap but it's usually enough to jump away unless it's a wing of starving Vultures. With a bit of practice it's easy to land and easy to go through the mail slot, basically just like with any other ship out there.

That thing seriously spoils you. I've considered buying a T9 again for that few extra tons of cargo, but ....... it's just not feasible because of the jump range. I love this thing so much I've even bought a second one and equipped it for combat, they're that awesome.

And if I want to do some missions, I'll just hop into my DBX.

Hey thanks guys. Sorry was watching some videos on how to land the beast.

Do you guys stay with the 6E Shields for paint bumps and bruises ?

Going trading spec.

1. 460 odd cargo capacity and a high laden jump range making it the best for specific trade routes due to cutting out time from extra jumps. Even the Type-9 is behind condas on those specific routes. More fun than a type 9 hands down as well.
2. A spec Conda in a HICZ(with rank 5 Hudson Bonus) 15-30 mill an hour. I wouldn't roll out of bed for 4.5. The most fun I've had in he game so far and I make a ton of cash.(I own 3 condas one for combat, exploring, and trading.

3. Condas have the longest range and the best fuel scope, making it the fastest explorer. Condas also do not sound like Asps. Asps make me play with out the sound on.

And so far in PvP, I have rocked every thing else in a 1 on 1 and a few wings solo. (9 Shield cell banks for pvp outfit, yes 9) When the 1.4 changes to the power plant happen the conda will be an even bigger beast in pvp as well since you will most likely have to chew through its hull most of the time as well or try and disable it to kill it.

I've had my Anaconda for a few weeks now, started with a purely trading setup with Class 4 shields and have slowly updated modules as I've gone. I now have all the hard points filled and Class 5 shields (which still give over 1000MJ with 7 boosters fitted). All this and still over 400tons of cargo.

To be honest I'm unsure which direction I'm going at the moment with it. I enjoy a bit of carnage with turrets blasting wildly all over the place but not sure if I want to carry on upgrading it or go back to a purely trading setup and maybe use the credits on a Python or FDL for combat. I'm just not sure i want to let go of that battlestar feeling :) I also like the idea of going back to some ranking missions and you really need to be able to land at outposts to do that.

But as far as the OP's question goes, then yes trading all the way. Loads of cargo space and you're mostly untouchable. To be honest I haven't found it that expensive to maintain either. I had a dodgy moment the other night when I took on a bit too much, escaped with about 70% hull and the repair bill was about 60k, didn't seem excessive to me. 1% on the wear and tear is about 14k as well in case you're wondering.

Try the Python first. If you dont like that, you wont like the Conda.
Python is the Prince of Ships, but a little sluggish. Conda is the King of Ships, and very sluggish

Why?

This is what you got:

[*]A Spec Vulture - ~4.5 mil/hr. Fun.

I have:

[*]A Spec Anaconda - ~15 mil/hr. Fun.

If you're wanting to get rich then the Conda is where you want to be. If not, don't bother - it is an acquired taste :)

Seriously thanks guys, for the comments and the loadouts.

I was looking for some convincing. Gonna fly over to Lou Rawls space and pick one up on sale ! As always, appreciate the community response.

The 4A shield with 5 shield boosters is 654 MJ shield strength. And if you go 4 pips in SYS it's even stronger.

You can hover over the landing pad, point your nose straight down and hit boost and suffer no hull damage with those shields. Not sure where you got the idea landing the Anaconda was hard.

I crash mine every time I land. If my landing pad is in the back I'll blaze across the docking bay at 133, slam the hull down at the start of the landing pad and let it drag on the ground until it stops. Sometimes it stops when the nose bounces off those buildings in front. The Anaconda is not fragile like other ships, you can be really wreckless and usually get away with losing only one or two rings of shielding.
