Ships you would like to see

Nah, look at it, its 90% cockpit, its going to be a small ship.
More like a 10% cockpit. Full ship size includes wings ;)
So could be medium.

The Misericorde: A heavily stealthed military-designed (Lakon: I am looking at you) sensor-ship could be repurposed for deep space exploration. Something with almost no armor, no weapons at all, huge jump range and super efficient components, able to loiter as a hole in space or be turned into a great science/explorer or blockade-runner. Something fast and light and small and very very black and angular. It'd be ridiculously expensive, of course, and very hard to obtain. But scans'd just slide off it.
Hah! Not bad, and very good actually. But with weapons ))

Stealth craft as well, sleek and fast would also open up a lot of possibilities for mission structure. Maybe even option to reduce their Heat signature for longer or even have a Stealth paint as such...Maybe not make a ship "invisible" as such but maybe make them a bit harder to see at distance and / or mess with the Scanner making signals intermittent.
DBS, no shield and stealth loadout. Only dark painjob is missing.

I'd like to see a larger variety of combat ships. Right now there is the Viper for new players, Vulture for just about everyone, and the FDL for the rich and PVP focused. And the courier, which is a less powerful but more fun Vulture.

-A tiny fighting ship built around a single large (even huge, if huge lasers ever come) hardpoint, sort of like a half-Vulture. Super maneuverable and small with relatively weak shields. ~8 million cr.
-A ship in between the FDL and Vulture in terms of maneuverability and weapons. Maybe 2 small, 2 med, 1 large? This could be the Mamba or Moray but I don't know much about the original Elite. ~20 million cr.
-Another Federal ship. Maybe call it the Federal Nighthawk and give it 2 large, 2 small weapons, a black paint job and angular stealthy design like a larger Viper. Good heat management would make it good for silent running and smuggling. It could also be really fast, enough to outrun a Cobra, but be lacking in turning ability compared to other combat ships, so jousting would be the best strategy. ~30 million cr.

Also a trading ship with about 350 cargo (with shields), could call it the Boa and give it better combat capabilities than a T7 or T9 but less than a Python. ~65 million cr.
And an exploration focused ship that's a clear upgrade to the Asp but isn't a Conda. Probably not made by Lakon, for variety's sake. Low maneuverability but high speed (big engines), one very large internal (fuel scoop), a few medium sized that could fit shields and AFMUs, and a few small for scanners. 37 LY jump range when optimized. ~30 to 60 million cr.

i would like to see hacking and science based professions and missíns to match, a science/explorer ship would be interesting, maybe it could act as a support ship inba conflict zone or something, i guess im sayingbi would like to see anything that adds depth.

The vintage Courrier would be awesome !

Its nacelles could retract along with the gear deployment to allow it to enter the station's slot.

Anything by Syd Mead:

A variant of the Cobra
-------------------------
same speed, low agility, less internal slots, stronger armor, less shield, but two class 3 hardpoints at the bottom.
Something designed as a bomber (plasma accelerators, cannons), not good at dogfight (bottom hardpoints + low agility) but can survive at a conflict zone (hit and run style)

A shuttle ship
---------------
Cheap, can be bought anywhere, even at outpost.
No internal slots, no shield, but so light that it runs faster than a Cobra and has an amazing jump range.
You know, a shuttle that can make you travel fast to go where your other ships are parked, while being very hard to take down (because a Hauler with rank A FSD is fine for the task, but vulnerable! And a Cobra with rank A thruster + distro + FSD is a pain to build every time!)

I think the Cobra Mk III is a bit underpowered. Would like to see a Cobra Mk IV, King Cobra. A Cobra that I actually can have in my ship rotation.

I was thinking along the lines of a Cobra Classic, to evoke the wireframe-era workhorse but with a more Frontier-like jump range.

Get rid of the problematic small outer hardpoints and replace the Class 2s with Class 3s. Maybe restrict them to fixed laser weapons only for that truly retro feel and a bit of balancing. One fixed 20T cargo rack that can only be upgraded to 35T and no further. Same FSD as the current Cobra but double the tank capacity. And a mount for a high-capacity fuel scoop. I'm thinking this would basically be a powerful ship for long-range bounty hunting and maybe piracy, with enough cargo space for rares runs but not high-volume trading.

About the only thing we wouldn't be able to emulate from classic Elite are the four big missiles. Stock ED missiles aren't powerful enough. Maybe a dedicated quad torpedo launcher? No energy bomb, though, unless you wanted to rename it the Tear Harvester. :)

On a slightly tangential note, among the things I miss most from Frontier are the orbital cities that were at Earth, Mars, Achenar and a few other places. I wonder if those are ever going to make a return, or are we stuck with the modular Orbis-style stations we've had since beta?

OP here, great posts guy, keep them up

Sob, no one seems to like my new ships, I knew I shouldn't have given up my day job to become a spaceship designer ... lol

Many years ago I read a SF story which told of a legend of a long derelict starship - one million miles in length and made of gold. I can't remember the title of the tale, but the image of that ship has stayed with me all these years.

I'd love to come across that ship somewhere out amongst the stars. Wouldn't you?

- Krait (small ship, like the Sidewinder but 100% combat/pirate focused. Has a smuggling hold. Cheap)
- Mamba (Medium ship. Is to the Cobra, what the Krait is to the Sidewinder. 100% combat/pirate focused. Has a smuggling hold. Cheap)
- Moray Star Boat (Med range all rounder, more exploration/trading that combat though. Perhaps some bonuses when dealing with medical related outbreaks)
- Asp Mk II (Old school combat slugger. Much less exploration, much more combat. Tough, well armed, not too speedy, much less open canopy)
- Boa (Alliance ship. Needs x rank in the Alliance to purchase. The next word in trading vessels. Slightly bigger than an Anaconda, More cargo than a T9 or Anaconda but crap range, or slightly less cargo than a T9 but a big range)

What we will actually get

The Imperial X, Y and Z, as the Imperials clearly don't have enough ships, toys and OPness yet.

I thought the Vulture replaced the Mamba, still it'd be nice to see all the old ships, even down to the Worm and Shuttle - maybe even increase the traffic around busy areas

Explorer ship.
.
NO weapon slots
.
A giant glass dome for all round viewing
.
Fuel scoop fitted as standard
.
30ly Jump range
.
100% transfigured Multi-phased Star class shield. (Which means you can`t hurt us :p )

.
That`s what I want for Xmas this year;)

We have already to many ships cost insane price! If you want more is because you grinding too much money and you don't know how to spend it.
The game needs more visual attractive thing around planetary system, it's boring to travel around the galaxy to find all visual are the same

Pretty much just the Imperial Trader. That ship really stole the hearts of First Encounter players. Granted, I'm not sure if we'd get really cool engine polys this time

Explorer with 50 Ly jump capability but not much else.

T8 trader to sit in-between T7 and T9. Frontier slipped up with the T7 I think, T6 and T7 should have been medium pad ships at each end of the size spectrum which would have left T8 and T9 as large pad ships again at each end of the spectrum giving a smooth trading upgrade path.

Imperial Trader and Cutter. (No Empire bias here... ;) )

Absolutely enormous generation ships that you can find....just so you can pull them over and let them know that mankind discovered FTL travel and that they had a wasted journey. Imagine the look on their faces!
