At least I know I aint going mad(der) and I had read it somewhere ;)

Me neither to be honest, its an out of game nonsense which not only makes no sense but is a missed opportunity to add more content into the PU. They could rope of some systems for CQC which we unlock permits for as we progress, and as for the CMDRS out in the black who want to play, well they could have unranked matches which they can play in which are outside of the main game imo...

but if we can have remote VR in the deepest of space, then surely that makes for a huge disconnect between not being able to cash in exploration data and bounties etc as well as not having live access to commodies prices where ever we want, and not having to explore any system which has ever been scanned by another player and sold to the pilots federation..... using this VR tech to transmit data it should all be available to us where ever we are.
.

Agreed 100%, I see the 'need' for CQC from the penny counters point of view, I see the 'want' from a proportion of the player base point of view, (though not my own), but bloody hell Frontier at least put the effort in to tie up anomalies as pointed out by Mike. Surely it would not take to much effort to sort these 'loose ends' out, a little creativity, a little imagination, make the recent addition you know, believable and actually 'tie in' with what we already have.

So there is a cross over, I completely missed that - sorry folks for the wrong information before.
Looks like even explorers will be able to earn credits in CQC for the main game, while still staying out in the black collecting data with their proper commander.
Not sure how some folks will explain being in two places at once ;)
I hope FD succeed in making it a profession. I would be nice if there was a way to make decent money from pvp.

i think it's a great idea.
i'm no good at fighting, but i can see myself using it as a tool to see if somehow i can find a way to increase my skills enough to be able to fight badly, or even moderately well.

as for the problems that people mention, instant communication and all the other things, it would be easy to bring up allot of reasons why it won't work or it will break other parts of the game, but i think we should install it and come up with explanations later.
if you can suspend your disbelief enough to allow tech to be flying around in space ships then surely you can allow this tech to be limited to the game within a game.

From the latest Dev Update thread:

Is there planned to be any defense against the possibility that player created minor factions could be destroyed with no possible recourse through Private Groups or Solo play?

From the initial inception of the game we have considered all play modes are equally valid choices. While we are aware that some players disagree, this hasn't changed for us.

From what I understand CQC is virtual reality. It was first referenced in that way on Galnet anyway.

“The losses posted for this year are partly due to the construction of a completely new and extremely exciting line of VR-Streams, which includes the latest instalment in the popular CQC franchise.”

Just think of it as an upgrade to your ships comms equipment allowing you to use VR technology to participate in galaxy wide contests, powered by the newly discovered properties of the um... Um... Interstellar Medium! ;)

Edit: Like wot CMDR Malkov said :)

oh, remote VR - nice!
But the down side is, from what I've read here - it takes 30 minutes to log out of VR, so better park up before entering a CQC match ;)

Good point about all the info / bounties etc..
May be something to bring up once CQC hits.

Confused a bit on this one.

Bring an Annaconda into open which was earned in solo or group = bad, even though the the pilot will probably have less than honed PvP skills and will more than likely lose it on their first encounter with a PvP'er.

Now we have people who are going to be bringing assets into open who have done nothing but polish their pew pew. Is that bad too, or okay because their was shooting involved along the way?

oh, now there is a good point.

I'd not thought about the whole "not gained in open, should not be in open" argument.
That is a very good question, how do the open advocates feel about ships bought and paid for, from CQC cash being used in open?

So apart from grinding in Solo / Groups to gain a combat spec ship, I could grind CQC matches to gain a combat spec ship AND gain tons of arena PvP experience.

I asked Brett this recently - about 16MB. However you might exceed the limits of participants willingness to wait for the page to load well before that....

So, how big is my wall of text now then?

I'd imagine not much as it's just text, so 16MB would be massive!
And now I want to know how much text / quotes it would take to hit 16MB :p lol

cqc pvp will be totally different from the main galaxy pvp. Cqc will only have small ships, a viper or eagle handles waaaaay differently than an anaconda. In fact the solo player will be more experienced flying a large ship.

Possibly.

But whether true or not how does that answer the question: "how do the open advocates feel about ships bought and paid for, from CQC cash being used in open?"

While CQC will only have small ships, we are told that there is nothing as unpredictable and challenging as another player in combat. With that in mind, CQC players will gain risk free PvP experience at the same time as, it would seem, credits for use in the main game. Flying a large ship against NPCs in Solo would probably prepare a player less for combat in Open than playing CQC would, in my opinion.
