Sarah moved from current project, update no longer coming?

Think about it for a second... If you are very vocal towards a community about updates and future changes, without being a spokesman or a project manager, things go wrong when things change, whatever the reason. Suddenly the things you have said aren't going to happen and are as much out of your control as when the things would have happened.

Maybe thats why other devs don't post here.

I can understand FD asking her to keep quiet about her work. But it sounded, from her comments here and elsewhere over the last few weeks, like her improved AI was ready to rock.

Not to release improved combat AI makes me wonder about the direction the only game I play will be taking.

This thread alone shows how ridiculous a community can get with the smallest snippet of vague information, suddenly everyone is writing theories that others pass on as fact. This is possibly why developers can't talk about everything they are working on, because average gaming communities don't understand the decisions that get a product out of the door in the real world.

Absolutely agree on this.

This is beyond tinfoil hat levels, we're in paper bag territory now — Tinfoil hats were at least waterproof. :D

This company continues to amaze me with its disastrous PR and insane decision making. I don't care how secret or amazing the project is that she has been moved to, once again we are presented with gagging orders and unfinished code in the overall 'feature' mess of what the game currently is.

I am so dissapointed. I really do wish I had never backed this game.

I haven't played in months but I thought I'd slip back to see what the latest PR disaster FDEV were causing. I'll quietly go back to waiting for No Mans Sky.

Who really knows. All I heard was a whole lot of "My minions!", followed by much tipping of fedoras.

We the Elite commanders, request that the AI is coded to be as challenge as possible. We want to have SJA back on this task so we can see the fruits of her work.

You are being rational. Stop That. :)

you couldn't be blamed, for speculating that she was moved off elite altogether. or even out of FD with the tone of those Twitter posts

If you took the time to look past that it was pretty clear that she was very happy with how it was coming along and sounded like she was doing a little fine tuning and bracketing before it was ready. Yeah some people were a little ott with their praise at times, but don't let that obscure the fact that a lot of people were genuinely excited about the updates and appreciated her straight forwardness, especially given all the half truths, evasion and borderline trolling from certain other FD folks.

and even more disappointed in FD for yet again fumbling the PR ball in the most cack-handed way.
from Sarah's original tweet, I doubt FD had time to start on an announcement. An angry tweet moves faster than any PR team unless the PR team had advanced notice of a change.

But you have invented this "PR disaster" from nothing. How could anyone foresee that folk such as yourself would take a very normal part of the game dev process and blow it out of proportion?

Seriously, I've had the pleasure of working in a game studio and you move onto different things all the time. ALL THE TIME. You have no idea what state what she was working on was in, you have not reviewed the code, you have no idea what she has been prioritised onto. Yet you think you know best?

It's the dev teams that run everything into the ground without constant reviews, management and knowledge share that you should worry about.

We have no idea what is going on based on zero information, but the idea that Frontier have stopped AI development is ridiculous since they have a long term commitment to the entire product.

I totally agree, here we have a DEV who actually interacts a tiny bit with the community and for some reason gets the hammer? The minion stuff was just fun and a little spice on top.
I don't know what this is based on, however I find it weird for sure.

And keeping things broken doesn't print money either. Word of mouth and recommendations go a long way. Right now I have a hard time recommending elite.
Yep i recommended this game too 2 people and feel kinda guilty about it now, wan't to get my uncle into it but I just don't have the same confidence anymore. But as before i still wish best for this game as it definitely has potential.

By "get the hammer" you mean, working on something else right now. Right?

I still have high hopes (maybe not as high as it once was) for elite as well. So far, it's the only game that sufficiently fulfills my desire for space exploration...for now.
