Just lost 9 million credits - is this a bug?

Ok, I was at Cleve Hub (Eravate) in Open mode. Saw a wanted Cmdr in a Cobra. Killed him, (in the no fire zone) got the bounty.

Next, I KWS scanned a clean Cmdr as he went in the station - 24,000 Cr bounty on him. Half a minute later he flew back out. Still inside the no fire zone, I opened up on him (did not kill him). Instantly, the station opened fire and my Python was dead in seconds.

What did I do wrong? Thanks!

Unless something has drastically changed, assault on a clean ship is a bounty, not a fine. That bounty will have a short duration, but it's a bounty none-the-less.

You're correct. He attacked a locally clean ship, so 1st hit gives him a local bounty. Since he's in the no fire zone, that's within range of the station guns, so he got wasted immediately. Not a bug, PBKAC.

The point is really that whilst the CMDR was wanted elsewhere the local police saw him as clean.

Basically if you have to use the KWS to make them wanted then you will get bounty when attacking them unless in Anarchy.
The fact that you were close to the station and in the no-fire zone is a side note but my first encounter with station guns was enough to ensure I never so much as deploy hardpoints near them :p

Haha yea stations can be cruel my friend. Just the other day I had a Unshielded NPC hauler stop right in the mail slit as i was entering in my Conda with a cargo bay full of gold. needless to say the hauler did not survive and the station with the new anti ramming law did not take kindly. 18 mill down the drain. But thats just the way she goes.

I accidentally shot a pirate before my scan completed, outside the no-fire zone and received a 400 CR bounty for assault. The scan completed as he blew up, so I got the bounty for him. Then the station killed me. :D

Kitiara is actually a Fighter. ;)

Sounds very fair to me... shoot two people in a no kill zone outside a station is just like spawn camping..so just deserts really or maybe "no fire zone" actually means light no campfires..
