Comments in this thread have ranged from eloquent to insane (sometimes a wonderful combination). Some of us may be a little peculiar, but the common denominator is some passion, and that's a rather nice thing to observe.

It's amazing how attached we get to some of our people here. I still miss Mark Boss, Tom Kewell, Josh Atack (best name ever), T.J (just kidding T.j)

shes programming thargoid AI

i base this on nothing.

I never actually talked with her on here, but I did appreciate seeing her online on sundays. It made me feel like she genuinely cared about the community and had fun being here. Part of her weekend was spent on here, after work hours, just chilling it up with the forum. I loved it.

edit:
I wish i could rep my own posts.

Perhaps her expertise was needed in the planetary landing department. You know, those stupid NPCs keep slamming their ships into the deck, or canyon walls perhaps.

that sounds too optimistic to me.
If someone earlier was to be believed on a tweet she made earlier before deleting, she's been working on combat AI for 2 months. Assuming navigational flight on a planet surface isn't harder than the new combat AI tactics she was working on. I can't see her needing more than 2 months especially when we have no clue when the landings will be released (or hell even announced although we know we'll get them eventually). There is little reason not to let her finish combat before having her move onto that task.

Hell even if we assuming we'll get landings this winter season that's still about 4 months away, I imagine that's more than enough time considering she said she was almost done with combat AI.

I've just read every post in this thread. Needless to say people aren't happy.

Sounds like typical corporate environs though, we've all been there. It's not nice and people are rightly frustrated. Fact is it will change nothing, I hope that none of Sarah's tweets are now used against her. Brash comments can be hellish to rectify once made, particularly with the internet's permanence.

Very interesting... not only is she off the AI codebase, she's banned from public communication. I bet something she said online (not necessarily on this forum) angered someone higher up the foodchain and she's either being punished or "managed out" (given a task they know she hates until she quits in disgust). I've seen it happen before, it's pretty rampant in larger companies. If FD is that kind of work environment, then some of the weirder decisions they've made start making sense (think VP's pet project - remember Microsoft Bob? BillG's wife was the brains behind it).

We dont know what she is now working on so no use crying over nothing.

Put the pitch forks down for a little while longer. Gamescom is coming up next month. Lets wait and see.

Then we might have to get the pitch forks and torches out again.

Well... I can honestly say that if she's moved to some secret non disclosure project that's a good thing then because more than likely it's tied to new content for the game.

When she comes back, can she have her own "Mistress of the Minions" page here?

https://community.elitedangerous.com/

Needless to say she has become rather beloved by the community and this is something Frontier should be happy with.

Some other projects I follow have handled this type of thing far better, they should check out how the devs lead by Richard Garriott handle themselves, one example is when discussing game features that haven't made it into the game yet are subject to change and not assume. If its secret as Sarah has said just state it that way.

Oh well, just throwing ideas out there, I was also hoping for better AI too and I hope it will be hot on the heals of 1.4 and various patches, really no need to wait for bigger updates for things like AI or PP improvements imho.

Another slap in the face to solo players, the updated AI would have added a great deal of immersion.

Feel for Sarah, she's seems genuinely upset.

You'll be missed.

Given what previous frontier employees have had to say about the management... absolutely none of that would surprise me, and is probably closer to the truth than any other ideas put forward thus far.

Update to what?

https://www.frontierstore.net/

You're assuming Elite: Dangerous is where she is working, but they've already got the money they'd get from sales of that - they're not likely to sell any more copies because of improved AI. But Planet Coaster might be running behind schedule...

I seriously hope that didn't happen. If I were in her position, and moved away from the game I loved to work on to a completely different game by the suits for suit reasons (ie money), I'd be at a doctor's office first thing next morning, tell him how much overtime I've put in the last few months and get my half year sick leave due to burnout (may not work in the United States).

I think she has been moved on to the thing related to the annoucement at gamescom which is now all hands on deck for that.

Her changes will go in one day but they probably want the new unnanounced feature finished by christmas to make the game shine for christmas sales.

So many people on this forums whine like five year olds.
