db scout a reason to play small ships.

My goal from release was to get a python. It is in my opinion the best ship in game if were are confined to single ship.

But we dont, so after a while we fancy a change. Parked up python and decided to try pure combat in fdl. Initially very disappointed. Tried many load outs and started to enjoy it.

Then I kept reading about how good the little ship is. Looked many times in the showroom but cant help feeling you get what you pay for. 500k compared to 51m fdl. Hmmm.

Bit the bullet last night. Spent 8 mill in total. First impressions. Wow. After fdl this thing is fsst and so manoeuvrable.

Feeling cocky dropped in to sss. 2 conda and cobra. I killed all three admittedly my hull took a pounding. My fdl would have been popping scb. Dont have them on scout.

Not so great pvp against clipper. Got rammed multiple times and died. If been in fdl or python would have been diff and yes I could have just system jumped but trying new things.

400k rebuy got back in 20mins. Awesome. Fdl might have to go.

Thanks fd for giving players a reason to fly smaller ships.

As an FdL and Clipper fan, I did a similiar thing and bought an Imp Courier. Combat loaded it out with a pair of rail guns and a burst laser.

wow, great fun! Took down a few anacondas and pythons as part of assassination missions.

However, I liked the diamondback for PP. Long range and could carry 25 tokens to wherever, very quickly.

This is and always has been the reason to fly smaller ships. Lower maintenance costs, and if it's good enough to do the job, it's good enough to do the job.
.
More players need to appreciate the worth of their ship.

With bigger ship when it goes wrong I just bail. With scout I put armour on and just push it. Last two missions have had the canopy blown. Silent running appears a bit hit and miss. The last conda never lost lock on me. But even with malfunctioning thruster and modules it went down. Thats an experience im not risking with a 4 mill rebuy.

Breath of fresh air in the game.

Small ships will always have a place in this game even just based on the very fact the risk vs reward is heavily in your favour flying a 400k rebuy ship vs a 5-20 million one. Will a heavily armed python do the job quicker with 0 hull damage? Probably. But the cost of SCB's isn't probably that far off the cost of major hull repair on a small ship anyway. Whenever I get burned out flying anything larger I always go back to smaller ships, the fun factor is way higher in them.

Agreed. I have the DBS as a multi-role/fighter and a T6 for trading.

I've kept my vulture but only bring it out of mothballs for CZ runs, the DBS doesn't last long in a multiship furball :(

Yep DBS is pretty awesome. Too bad it's so ugly. I wish the cobra was just a liiiiittle bit more maneuverable - still my favorite ship but it's hard to look past the agility of the DBS.

I also do appreciate the introduction of the two new small ships.
There has always been a big gap in my heart, when i had to put the eagle aside,
to engage in hotter combat.

Now i flew a fully fitted FDL and liked the way it handles for a big ship,
but maneuverability is where my focus is, so i went back to small ships.

I love my DB Scout for being such a small, nimble and stealthy ship.
I love the courier, for giving me that "zoom n' boom" fighter feeling i missed so long.

The weapons might be weaker, and you have less defensive capabilities when it comes to shields and hull,
but still, you are small, agile and especially fast.

I don't think I'll be going back to bigger ships anytime soon.
Freedom is a ship, fitting through the little tubes of an Ocellus starport;)

very same feeling. pve in a python is boring. love to take the dbs to cz. if it's about fun of flying, most of the small ships are fun.

I don't spend so much time on the game, and while I could afford a bigger ship I like small ships: they are nippy, more interesting to fly, and losing them is not a big deal. Flying them gives me so much fun, I am kind of sorry for those racing to get a Conda.

Why not? The Scout can run an active SCB up to A class while the FdL just... can't.

The greatest thing about the Scout is its flexibility - you can run a really wide range of different configurations.

I was playing with silent running setup so no need for scb. However. I am having varying success. Sometimes they struggle to lock me other times they land hit after hit. Anyone any pointers. When silent running engaged I loose my heat profile so assume should not show on radar.

The scout has very limited module space. Thankfully it lives up to the name "diamondback" :D

Op, try running it without any shields at all. Put two chaff launchers and two heat sink launchers on the utility HPs, get mirrored composite, and use a mixture of stealth, agility, and chaff to take down enemies. With this set up you don't need to use anything on SYS, so it's total WEP and ENG. Because you're not running a shield gen you can even run with all beams on this and get away with it (although all Multis lets you fire much longer without overheating).

It's unorthodox, so much so that very few people have gotten used to dealing with it yet.

Limited module space, but it can easily run 3A SCB, 3x A booster (or 2x + dual chaff) and quad MC or Pulse without sacrificing thruster or shield gen power. That's pretty good for a little ship.

Started all mc with 4 heat sink but found some still get a good lock on even with silent. Now about to try 2 chaff 2 heat sinks all mc 2 scb and when shields fail goto silent running. But boy having fun trying new things. Cant wait to get gaming time.

Bah shield cells, fight like a man with shields as buffer and improved armor while silent running :p

I find myself switching back and forth - not so fond of the Diamondback myself (although I use it as a Taxi and yes - it's fun to fly), but I got a Courier for when I'm in the mood for some Jet style flying. Eventually, I get tired of its anemic damage output and switch back to the Conda or Python - rinse and repeat.

Haven't really flown my FdL in weeks, because the jump range gives me migraine each time I think about undusting it (not a complaint - just doesn't suit my personal playing style).

It's horrible for pvp because it has no mass lock (even tho it's useless) and has low dps to counter SCB gameplay

horrible for PVE because it's dps is so low. There is no point to not bringing the highest dps ship because the NPC's can never kill you anyway. It takes 30 seconds in an FDL takes 2 minutes in a DBS, with less risk on the FDL front as well.

The only way small ships become viable is if they have roles - most people are rich and rebuy means nothing.
