ED not working with Win 10

After upgrading to Windows 10, Elite Dangerous has stopped working. I am able to login, but the game refuses to launch. No crash or anything, just no launch. I have tried everything, even doing a complete re-install. Nothing works. I opened a ticket, but do not get any help that way either. If anyone has any ideas. please let me know. I am willing to try just about anything at this point. Thanks in advance.

Run as administrator? Run in compatibility mode?

Have you checked drivers and firewalls, etc?

It doesn't help but it's been working fine on Windows 10 for me since I upgraded on release day.

That option is no longer available by the looks of things..

All latest drives and firewall rules ok. Still no luck.

I believe anything that worked in 8.1 with function in 10 as I understand it. They are very similar internally and 10 is supposedly got compatibility modes down to XP.
Hammer, is that Chris Plummer in your avatar? LOL
I see. I'll wait a bit to make sure. I was reading some forum comments where some of the drivers/apps weren't working on beta builds of Windows 10 from a couple of months ago. Makes me nervous.

And yes that is Mr. Plummer! If you haven't see Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country, you're doing yourself a great disservice. Get on that.

go here on your pc

C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Redis

Open vs2010 and reinstall vcredist_x86
Open vs2012 and reinstall vcredist_x86

Then try the launcher again.

Hi there Commanders,

I tested Elite and Win10 a few times during the Win10 Insider program. The game always crashed on me during the transition from normal space to Supercruise or when I jumped.
So far so good, in the meantime Nvidia released more drivers and Elite is working just fine, but since the final Win10 version I have suddenly major problems with my flightstick X52. Everything works fine, except when I am done playing Elite and disconnect the flightstick. The mouse is not responding correctly anymore. The buttons don't work, the PC starts to beep and the mouse movement is more than laggy. Even a system shutdown is not working correctly.
Is anyone else having those problems? I am just curious, maybe someone found a fix?

Hi All,

I've figured this out and fixed it on my Windows 10 system. If you open up the Saitek profile manager and load in the profile you are using, look near the bottom and you will see two entries for the mini-stick that is on the Throttle, set them both to "Unprogrammed" and save your profile and ensure that you are using that with your HOTAS (it should say the name of the profile on the LCD on the throttle).

You should then be able to unplug the HOTAS without issues.

Edit: Drat - nope it did fix it for a bit, but now it has come back.. grrr.

My experience so far is the upgrade from Win 8.1 to 10 worked perfectly and Elite ran beautifully. But I wanted a clean install so I pulled the licence key from the install and built a USB and ran a clean install on a formatted drive. All good so far. Then I tried to install Elite.

The install kept failing with : failed to read from response stream. network connection closed

Tried a few times and always the same. Reading on the support forum the support teams recommend logging a ticket, but being the weekend here in Australia I am not hopeful on a quick resolution. But the support team did mention downloading Elite via Steam.

So, as much as I did not want to I have done just that. The download completed in about 5 minutes coming down at a peak speed of 10.9 MB/S.

Launches and works perfectly.

Did you try unplugging and plugging it back in?

Had to be done.

It's all that simple. Uninstall SST software and X52 drivers. Open "Device manager" in your Windows control panel and please uninstall all the four voices under "Programming support", named "Programmable hotkeys", "Programmable Support for Keyboard", "Programmable Support for Mouse" and "Programmable Root Enumerator", all by Madcatz (check if you're unsure by double clicking on each voice before removing). When you remove them, please check the mark for letting Windows remove the software too for those devices.

Now, assuming you've a 64-bit OS, install these (old) drivers by Saitek and these (not so old) SST software by Saitek too (before being acquired by Madcatz) and enjoy your fully functioning X52 with Windows 10.

Source: me and my X52. I spent all the past night trying all the combinations of the various drivers and software by Saitek until I found the good one for Windows 10.

Did you validate game files? Change anything besides install 10?
My install is done. going to test tomorrow with the old Catalyst driver, then install the new one and compare.

I am going to see if PhotoSuite for XP works on it tomorrow.
Mister P went to the same school as my dad, Montreal High School For Boys. Also the alma mater of the Shatner.

On Windows 10 upgrade. I read that after you do the 7/8 to 10 upgrade & it's validated, the next time you need to do a clean install you can just format, pop in a USB stick with the Windows 10 installer (can be downloaded from MS site) and it will install just fine. You don't need serial number or anything, it knows that your PC is already validated (the same way it knows you're changing stuff on your PC & asks you to call) so it skips it.

On how E: D works in my Win 10 PC, it works great.

RE: The issue with Windows 10 and the X55 Rhino, I got the following response from Saitek today:

We are currently working on updates for Windows 10 drivers which should be coming in the next few weeks.

Did a clean Win 10 install yesterday and kept ED installed on a seperate partition. Copied all the Appdata folders and had to run the installer again (in the same folder, so no new download necessary) to get rid of several errors but after that the game runs now perfectly with all my old settings.
But my X52 Pro has some severe issues. If I plug it in or out while win is already running it instantly renders the system unusable and I have to restart. If I plug it in before booting I have no problems whatsoever.
(By the way, did the clean install because of a new PC. Everything is running smoothly on Ultra settings. So awesome. :) )

? I updated to 10 yesterday. All fine. Inc my x55 rhino, voice attack, TrackIr etc. No issues at all. Except it did ask me to uninstall Daemon tools virtual drive before I installed. Other than that it works fine.
