Help! Can you help me get my 'conda out the slot

Well OK so I can actually get it out but very rarely without horrible scraping sounds and often I worry that I'm gonna get jammed and have over 11Mil insurance bill (plus 368t imps dead).

What I am looking for is a dummies guide to undocking the anaconda successfully every time.

I don't see how anyone can actually dock the beast manually, you just can't see where you are going really so the docking computer is a permanent fit as far as I am concerned. How I wish it could also function as an "undocking" computer.

So any hints / tips / links to useful videos will be very welcome.

No tips but I do find it odd the docking computer doesn't also act as an undocking computer. I mean undocking is essentially a subset of docking in that there's nothing extra AI wise.

scrapping the bottom at times as well but eh its not that difficult. I found the T9 was harder to get out without hitting one of the sides.

I would say try to stick to the top (relative to you) of the mail slow due to the fat belly but you probably already know that.

2nd edit: I also just giggled. Couldn't help but think of the

You'll get better. The thing to do though is be aware of your viewing position. In the conda you are seated right at the top so you want to be going through towards the top of the slot.

this plus: on either side of the slot there is a centre marker, exit with the centre marker of your fire groups at the top of this and you'll be fine and can even exit with your landing gear down. you may feel the need to duck though as you come quite close to the top of the slot, but there is still room enough to get through.

It feels weird at first but like others have said you need to scrape your head off the roof going through the letterbox in a 'conda. The difference between a bridge and a cockpit. Makes you feel for Mr. Sulu.

Thanks for the replies folks, very helpful of you all.

I hadn't thought of using the lights at the side of the slot to line up with the weapon group centre lines, all the others I had tried (and often failed with LOL).

The problem has always been the pitch angle of the ship, it is so long, deep and the bridge so high that I find it difficult to get the attitude (pitch wise) correct. I have decided to try to avoid using pitch control during undocking and so far, coupled with all your tips this has worked out good. (Touch wood.)

I just bought an Anaconda yesterday....I'd read that you need to go through the slot aiming high and have had no problems until this morning when I got myself stuck in the slot leaving a station and became wanted because of it LOL ...I have A5 shields and five shield boosters, so when the cops came after me they didn't have much luck and I was able to FSD out ....I'm pretty sure my trouble in the slot was because I used the joystick instead of my thrusters when I began to scrape the ship. So, aim your ship high and if you scrape and need to correct, use your thrusters instead of your pitch.

Aim to scrape your head rather than your undercarriage and you will soon be going through with no problems.

I still only make it through clean about 10% of the time! Bought some shields.

I used to be precise (using all the thrusters) to land the ships.. now i just dump them on the pad and scrap along till i come to a stop in the centre. :)

I've been thinking, the need to fit through that mail-slot on stations is going to have some rather amusing implications for ship designs down the road.

Unless past a certain size they start allowing you to dock on the outside of the station, maybe some kind of "mooring station" where you can hook your ship up to make sure it doesn't float away, then take a shuttle inside to conduct your business.

After flying the Conda for two days it seems to me the the majority of scraping while going through the slot (if you remember to aim high or use the weapons center line as a guide) occurs not because you have the ship too high or too low, but rather because you don't have the ship absolutely horizontal--if you have a problem with going through the slot, it's because you've got the pitch wrong and catch the back of the ship on the slot

I don't think I'd ever want to dock/undock the Anaconda without shields... It took me a bit to get a solid 100% comfortable undock approach. Which is aim a bit low, wait for the shields to make contact with the bottom of the docking slot which kind of floats the ship up to the right level as I'm using down thrusters. Sure I see PROX IMPACT all the time, but I get out fast and sure.

Except sometimes things like this happen if I'm not quite paying attention. lol

When you approach the slot you will see a shimmering of blue air lining the inside of the slot In the centre of the slot is an area that has very little blue shimmer, so it is like a hollow rectangle of shimmering blue air in the slot. I f you keep your speed up above 70 and position the nose of the 'Conda so it is just gliding over the lower line of that shimmer you will not hit either top or bottom.
The reason for keeping the speed up a bit is because as the ship is so long if you are drifting slightly off course you will be through the slot before you get badly stuck on anything.

Oh and if you get stuck on the silly wires leave the game. You have about 1.5 minutes to quit. When you return you will be around 10k outside the station. But if you follow the exit method I have outlined you should get out clear almost every time.

Keep gear deployed to limit speed, half throttle. Turn the mouse widget on, menu, options, controls, show mouse widget. This puts a little dot in the center of the screen, use that to help line up. Go a little higher than normal with your view, if you do this, the forcefields and air pressure around the slot should push you where you need to be, just don't fight it.
