Maybe they will announce that they will sell the Elite Franchise to a competent game company... that would indeed get my hopes up again!

I'd be content with cheese souffle though... that way I can at least battle my disappointment with binge eating.

Yes, but not as advertised in the trailer. The trailer suggested that the construction stage of the station was dynamic and dependent on player participation in the community goal. Instead, the different construction stages of the station were manually injected during patch updates following the completion of the community goal.

Players expected dynamic content, but didn't get any.

Meh, I think some people would be disappointed if Frontier announced something they couldn't find anything to be disappointed about. Since that's pretty impossible I for one look forward to the threads of disappointed later this week.

I don't really have a problem with Frontier releasing trailers for free content updates but then I reserve my conclusions beyond the cinematics offered in a small announcement trailer.

Yes I must admit, Things not changing dynamically, but only changing during patch updates and server reboots, is really quite disappointing.

Your above example of the station construction is a good one.

And I remember my own let-down was that Jacques station only moves during a server reboot/maintenance cycle.

Oh the possibilities that have been missed! Just think about how awesome it would have been to observe Jaques going into a Jump to its next location. Or how awesome it would be to be docked in Jaques and there was this colossal (heh), rending noise of the station you're in, Jumping.

Oh sorry, right I forgot about CQC. I meant for the Gamescom Announcement.

Edited my post accordingly.

That makes more sense... You missed the epic mission upgrades in V1.4 :)

I think we'll be seeing footage leading up to the first DLC.

My fear is it will be great footage, but ultimately prove to be of something too premature and prove to be ultimately somewhat vapid and without enough gameplay. ie: We'll be able to walk around ships and stations.... and do? Or we'll be able to fly down to some planets... and do?

TBH, my perfect Wednesday news would be the announcement of ED2.0 due end of the year, with a massive bucket load of core gameplay enhancements... But not holding my breath. There's less money in that than a DLC!

The trouble is the development time/resources involved compared to the number of people that saw it. There are often complaints from people that stuff in the game isn't in the game already simply because folk jump to the conclusion that anything they haven't seen isn't done.

Didn't vote because there was no option for bacon. With cheese. What kind of poll do you think you're running OP! ;) :D

I will say however that I think I've timed my trip out to the core perfectly as now I'm currently loosing my mind. If FD announced that they are introducing a yo yo into game play. I'd be happy with that.

I get your point - I really do!

However - the trouble is, FDEV create hype over things like Jacques and station construction - and that creates expectations from the paying customers. And when the reality doesn't live up to the hype - this is where the disappointment comes from. It's all very well understanding that dev time & resources is limited, but if you're going to allocate dev time and resources to something - and then hype it - don't release it until you CAN jump a station in "real time".

Jacques was hyped. The expectation - and I think it was quite a realistic expectation - was that we could either gather around Jacques and see something REALLY IMPRESSIVE - or be inside Jacques (as I was the very first time) - and experience something REALLY IMPRESSIVE.

Then it turned out the way it did. One moment the station was there, the next moment (after a server reboot), the station was magically not there and somewhere else. That's pretty grim.

Maybe, I'm not sure I'd pick Jacques station out as something they "hyped" particularly. It was more a case of them adding something from Elite lore and mentioning it in the newsletter.

Allrighty then... pretty sure station construction was hyped more in that case :)

I don't know about you - but when I hear about "station construction" in a game like Elite: Dangerous - with its awesome graphics and soundscape - I'd be expecting to see its progression through time, and not just suddenly be at Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 after a server reboot. I'd be expecting to see little construction ships running around delivering materials and supplies to either little construction drones or Space People. Y'know - little touches like that which brings the galaxy to life :)

I don't think those are unrealistic expectations.

And when FDEV release station construction - and hype that in a video - and it turns out that the construction Just Happens - that does lead to disappointment.

New trailer:

COMING THIS WEDNESDAY PREPARE FOR DISAPPOINTMENT...

Dear Dave Braben and Ian Bell,

Thanx for making the Elite game. I cant dock but I like shooting the pirates and my cOBRA is cool!

Dear David Braben,

I think Frontier Elite 2 is amazing. I can fly anywhere in the Milky Way and I think I've found my own house.

Dear Trading Standards,

I have forwarded a copy of this complaint to my solicitor.

I wish to register a complaint against one Frontier Developments. Their most recent update to the computer entertainment product 'Elite Dangerous' was pre-emptively described by Frontier employees as both "Colossal" and "Mouth-watering"

I have attached dictionary definitions from several sources vs my documented account of what was described. As you will see from my conclusions the proposed content addition to the product could not be described as either of these terms.

This has destroyed my life.

Does such small detail really makes this feature less interesting? Fact alone it's traveling station is not enough?

Small detail? Small? The ONLY thing that differentiates Jacques station from the other gazillion in the galaxy is that it moves. Yet the move happens by magic when the game is shut down. So it might as well be one of the other gazillion.

No really, don't bother. I've tried to argue this on IRC this morning with him as well.

The answer I get is that I don't have enough imagination.

That's right - calling for interesting and epic things like watching a station jumping is unimaginative.

Instead I need to lobotomise my brain and imagine that's what I saw.

You can't argue with that kind of "reasoning". :)
