As far as I'm concerned planetary landings ARE the game, and we had to do without this part for way too long. Nothing is more important than this! Hopefully the Earthlike landings and the ability to enter the atmosphere of gas giants will follow soon.

You think planetary landings ARE the game in a space combat / trading game? I really don't understand this sentiment.

I'm sure that PL will be fun, but it's incredibly disappointing that they haven't added more content to the existing game. I love the combat and the look of the game, so I make excuses for it, but it's really woeful that it's so basic this long after launch (and that it launched in the state it did).

for $50-60 usd it better be a buttload of content as well as making sure the core game is fixed before tacking on more crap.

Also how long is this discount for and would I have to pay for all of it now or can I just throw a bit down on it now and the rest later when I can (also would I lose the discount if I didn't fully pay before the discount time is up?).

Am i right in saying that there is still more to be announced this week, mainly to do with 1.4 and bits we dont know about? (still holding out for some sort of mining changes ;) )

The hype is real!

One question that is on many's lips: "How do I know if I am a beta player if I have too access to this for free?"

if you were premium beta you have access for free
if you were standard beta but bought the lifetime season pass you have access for free
if you were standard beta but did not buy the season pass....... the frontier store is -------> that way (ie not free) as I understand it

Its the Holidays now, Ive just come back from one, my child is on a long one from school, there couldnt be a more holidayish time!

Also, the core game will continue to be developed, and those developments will always be free. It's only the expansions which cost money.

Really hope you are right there.
Dont get me wrong... another 50 is nothing, it's not about that cash; but what really worries me that focus will shift too soon to that new and shiny thing and much needed polish and improvements for the "basic" game are put on the list way, way down.

Crafting is one of those 'over my dead body red lines' from FD, a bit like CQC was. Whatever it is, it will be taking us further from the kickstarter vision.

It's not mentioned in the official announcement is it? I didn't see it anyway. Crafting, if it's anything like other MMOs will be a big steaming pile of misfit in the ED galaxy. It can be done in better ways, but they seem to be moving towards following tired old paths (deathmatch, CTF) so I'm cautiously pessimistic about that one! ;)

This rush is a sign of greed in my view. How many companies release massive expansions so soon? Not many, and I've played over 1000 games to know. The order usually is: release, bugfixes, after some time some small DLC releases, then after a longer time, an expansion. Look at GW2, its release was in 2012, and the expansion comes out in 2015. Yearly releases are for greedy companies, like EA.

About a year ago they were saying they wanted to release planetfall within the first year as a paid expansion... so it's not like it wasn't foreshadowed... in fact it was blatantly stated. As to why it's so much, DBOBE has said many times that he wants at least as much content in each expansion as in the core game so basically it's a whole new game that you don't have to buy if you don't want to. I have no problem with it (which is why I bought the lifetime pass 18 months ago).

It'll definitely cover the expansion (that's exactly what it was for, after all). I'm waiting for confirmation that it'll also cover unlocking the Cobra Mk 4.
The community page said "those that joined in the first year." I take that to mean those that paid for the game between November 2012 and November 2013.
