News ANNOUNCING ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS

Okay, I'm sorry but I've got a stupid question here: "Elite Dangerous: Horizons - Beta" on the store is the full game plus the possibility to play the beta version before the final version is released, right?

As for the "fan loyalty bonus"... well... I bought the Mercenary Edition (boxed) on December 1st, 2014. That doesn't get me ANY discount on Horizons, does it?

I must say I'm equally disappointed and hyped here. Disappointed because I really thought planetary landings would some day be included as an update of the regular Elite Dangerous and not as a new expansion for which one has to pay more money – let alone MORE money than for the regular Elite Dangerous (when obtaining the beta possibility). Why not just include the updates in the regular game?

It's really a lot of money... :(

Great! Planetary landings and bought the lifetime pass even before typing this! Thanks Frontier, you made my day/week/month/year.

Anything bought in the Frontier store will show up in your steam version.

Except the 25% discount. Which was the point of my post... I've bought many paint jobs without issue, but even though my steam key is registered at the store, I am not included as a "current player" for the 25% discount.

I also tried to open a ticket, but the options didn't allow for me to post it as anything except an "game exploit" which is very odd.

Ok, sounds better and I appreciate the reponse but what does a "season of expansions" mean? is it two expansions it gets or 3 or , the pricing is too vague Michael. No one seems to understand what they are buying. Also you need to make sure we can have more than one commander because this impacts the people who have bought more than one version of the original game. Appreciate the reply though

My educated guess:

You buy the game with all upcoming expansions for the next year. Horizons and PL will expand and stay into developement like ED has since its release. New features for PL will be added (like the crafting and such). Probably at the end of 2017 Frontier will release another big expansion (e.g. Thargoids) and the cycle starts anew.

Two things...

1) Seemless is subjective of course... You could press your "jump" button and you seemlessly "warp" down to atmospheric flight near the surface? :)

2) Frankly seemlessly flying too/around the planet is the least of my worries. I'm more concerned what we get added depth/gameplay wise. ie: If all we can do it press a new discovery scanner button, and now shoot mining lasers on rocks on the ground (instead of space), is that really going to add new depth, and offer intereting or emergent gameplay?

Give it a rest for one day will you? ;)

You'll have months of complaining ahead of you! :D:p

Then you are setting yourself up for a fall .. just saying ...

It probably will be seamless (in that there will be no loading), but don't expect to be in control the whole time, its perfectly possible there will be some sort of hyperspace style screen whilst the planet loads in.

Hopefully that wont be the case and it will be completely seamless, but as stated don't get your hopes up just yet.
I put it to you, that your expectations are too low, you're too used to the way other games developers have done things because they didn't know how to do it.
David Braben had seamless planetary landings in FE2 AND FFE (basically the same game) in 1993 and that fit on a 1.44MB floppy disk ... 1.44MB consider that for a moment.
Here we are in the age of modern gaming where games can be multiples of GB in size, the CQC update yesterday was 6GB, for an update!!!

And you honestly think, knowing the core die-hard Elite fans, like myself, demand nothing less than being able to manually fly our craft down to a planet's surface like we could in FE2 ... that Frontier would risk the rage in the community by making it a CUT SCENE. I think not.

Have faith, my young Padawan :p

I remember buying Elite as the start of beta,And was told then that all Future updates would be Free,Was this some kind of con,as now with Horizons i have got to pay more?

It has always been the case, it has always been said that Planetary Landings would be a paid for expansion and that there would be more to follow. Updates may be free, but expansions were never said to be.

Which is why I didn't link my accounts.

Good man :)

There's a difference between "update" and "expansion". Update (Wings, Poweplay, CQC etc.) = Free. Expansions (Horizons) = Not free.

If you paid the right amount as a backer you get it free. Otherwise you pay, and ED have always said that some of thier larger expansions would have to be paid for. I'm not even a beta backer and I know this.
