Wow, most of you guys were right - planetary landings, oh boy I'm excited. Also - vehicles!!!! There was a buggy in this teaser!
Absolutely not disappointed here. \o/

There's no rush.
EDIT: Well, there is and that's why you can't buy it RIGHT NAOW!!!!
I mean, you don't need to worry, if you wait until later or even tomorrow you'll still be able to buy it.

How long do we have to buy the beta? I cant get on the store to do so. would it still be available tomorrow you think? The beta that is?

So I bought the game for £40 (plus £15 beta which I won't count) I now have to pay £30 (after 25% discount) and get access to the full game for £70
If I had never backed this game from day one I pay £40 for Horizons and get the full game?

Not sure how I should take that to be honest or am I reading that wrong?

You're correct, but by paying more, you got to enjoy the game for a much longer period of time.

If you had not pledged in beta, and instead waited until december 2015 to buy Elite: Dangerous, you would not be able to play the game right now, or at any point in the past, or at any point between now and December 2015.

...I really only have one question: Will landings be somewhat seamless, or will supercruise just drop you off inside the atmosphere?

What do you mean nothing to do with elite?

How do you know on board ship movement isn't included?

I mean has nothing to do with the story of this game. Not this particular "episode" of this game. The whole game.

Yes I'm one of the old age not-grown buddies who played Elite, FE2, FFE and bought ED because wanted a modern version with astounding graphics and billions of stars to live in, not a first person race game or worse, a first person shooting game on vehicles.

I love the idea of planetary landings, exactly as it was on FE2. I don't see the point in having GTA into ED by having gunfights on the ground while driving a 6-wheel-drive rover on a rocky planet.

On board ship movement is another thing which is only cosmetic, and utterly USELESS in game. The point is, I'd like to see cosmetic improvements AFTER core improvements, like, as I said, passenger cabins.

I can already picture it.

People said we were crazy. But we set off anyway, out in the black, further than anyone has gone before. It took us months of hardship, and eventually we found ourselves at the edge of the galaxy, 70,000 ly from Earth - in order to have a dune buggy race! So worth it.

Can't wait :)

Does the coupon apply to the skins? As I already have the life time expansions pack it would be nice to get a few more skins for my fleet.
This is a good point. I didn't get the £5 discount for the XBox version as I don't have an XBox, and I doubt I'll get the £10 discount for expansion as I am getting it (for "free") anyway.

Yes and after the first few times you will realise that that is all you will find. It will equate to the same meaningless mundane tasks dictated by the bulletin board over and over with zero depth.

How easily people fall for trailers. Do you not remember the development diaries? How they inspired your imagination? All that stuff is here in the game already but none of it like you imagined it to be.

What does that tell you?

ED does not need more mundane tasks or planertary landings. What it needs is meaningful storyline that the community can steer by mass involvement. Until then, all you have is repetition over and over again for no purpose until you can't take anymore.

Sorry no orfeboy; your posted opinion is strictly based on (your) play style. You folks get what you want and now we get what we want....

Ok been trying to read as fast as this thread is created but can't keep up so apologies if this has been asked but:

I have Elite on steam same as my 2 boys

When will it be available for pre order on steam?

Will the Expansion Pass be also available on steam?

BTW - one boy ran out the room squealling and the other just dropped in a chair with his jaw on the floor, we are all still grinning like mad so well done David and Team on that.

Well, it is not, really. Ground gameplay has nothing, and I mean nothing, to do with Elite. Yeah I know, it probably be funny, but still, has nothing to do. Planetary Landings are another story, and I like them , just because it will be like FE2 landing on Sirocco Station or New London... But all the time spent in physics calculations for ground movement of vehicles, well, can't say I'm happy, if I've to be honest. I'd rather prefer to have passenger cabins on my ship, but it's only an opinion.

Having a vehicle with which to explore planets has been planned since the original ELITE. Seriously, Braben was talking about it since before Elite II came out --IIRC it was supposed to be included then, but for some reason wasn't. This has always been part of the plan.

Okay, after calming down a bit let me say this:

I really need more information before I even ponder purchasing Horizons. How exactly will planet landings work and are future planet landing features (i.e.: planets withs atmosphere, gas giants, earthlikes) already included in this single purchase, or will I have to play again for earthlike planets and such? You somewhat expect us to buy a pig in a poke at this point. ;)

I'm more in the "just pay for this upgrade, or fork out the £130" quandry at the moment.

Agreed about waiting for more though.. I think the initial roll out will allow us to have some fun out in the black while waiting for the ELW landings when we can be first to plant our flag.

Flags!

We need flags!

I really do hope that the restricted landings is a sign that FD are not half-assing this. Not that I generally blame FD for half-assing anything, but I was worried that all we'd get was some silly mini-games instead of proper landings.

I see, so no fixes or improved depth and variety for the mess you released last xmas, but you want another £30 for some unfinished moon landings and riding around in a buggy?

I think not.

Not impressed, but not at all surprised.
