Its a shame that it appears 1.4 wont be out for another month though :( was kinda hoping we'd get it before end of august atleast.

I think we can safely assume walking around will be the focus of season 3 in late 2016.
I'm not so sure any more. I used to think planetary landings would be one expansion and walking around another, but today's news has made it clear they're not doing it that way any more. Planetary landings is being distributed over at least two expansions (or "seasons"). I now think it's more likely they'll also distribute the other promised major features more thinly. I wouldn't be surprised if walking around came in stages as part of "seasons" two and three.

It makes sense (to me at least!) that worlds supporting life would require walking around for any meaningful gameplay. Driving a buggy around a barren moon is a far cry from driving one around a forested planet. It's also a lot more work to procedurally generate such worlds and have them be believable in the way that DB wants them to be (bearing in mind that No Man's Sky has been in development for years already, and that's their core). My hope is that at some point during the Horizons season, we'll get to see some preliminary atmospheric work through gas giants, and that we'll be able to get a whole lot closer to planets with atmospheres and at least see them in greater detail than we can now.

I'd expect that next season would introduce certain aspects of walking around, such as ship boarding / combat and walking around stations. Whether it's enough time to also develop plandings on life-rich worlds, I don't know.

So, 3 new ships for CQC (and according to word of god, that's 3 NEW ships, not the ones you use in CQC), K 5 planned, and the R Cobra IV. KRA That leaves one more KRAIT for 30, right? KRAITKRAIT
Hmm. KRAITKRAITKRAITKRAIT I wonder what this ship will be KRAITKRAITKRAITKRAITKRAITKRAIT, but i trust that FD will make KRAITKRAITKRAITKRAITKRAITKRAIET something interesting KRAITKRAITKRART and unexpected. KRAITKRAITKRAITKRAITKRAIT

I just posted in another thread about getting in to your new buggy for the planet landings, I think that walking round your ship could be update 1.5 how else are we getting in our buggys?

The buggy may be a drone, launched & controlled from the ship. It would make sense incase you die.

"Walking around" is a long way off. Think years instead of weeks. At the earliest it will be "season 3".

"...how else are we getting in our buggys?"

How do you change ships now...

I actually think really basic walking around (as in moving about inside your own ship, opening doors, brewing tea in the ship's galley) could be implemented pretty soon if FD wants to, but my guess is that resources are focused elsewhere right now.
And once the planetary stuff is done, I think we have a good chance of first-person stuff coming up as the next big feature.

I wouldn't be so sure, unless they take the handwavium route of artificial gravity for ships(magnetic flooring could work too, but eh), but I kind of doubt that since we have stations taking advantage of centrifugal force to generate gravity. Who knows!

I hold onto this aswell :D I read some where that all ships are modeled with the interiors complete. The stations you can tell are not.

Planetary stuff will probably never be "done"...it's a whole galaxy we are talking about here. ;)

The question is rather if "season 3" will be atmospheric worlds or first person activities. Hard to say what I would want more or what would be best in terms of making the game stand out against the competition.

That's true, I didn't think of that; implementing realistic movement in freefall might be hard.

If I understood the announcement right, atmospheric stuff was going to be a part of this season, but would come at a later release (some time during 2016)

I've had my camera bug out and displace from the pilot's seat - the interiors are definitely not on the ingame models, but we have seen shots of an Anaconda's interior so that's not to say they don't have models waiting to be implemented.

Walking around logically will have to come after an intensive redesign of the game's assets. The debug cam shows you this. So far, with the exception of your bridge and the open areas of the different stations, there is practically nowhere to walk to. Models will have to be more complex and redesigned to allow for our characters to go to meaningful locations like say a shop at a station, the med bay of your ship etc. By that respect planetary landing is a walk in the proverbial park because procedural generation will take care of most of it hence why it's coming first.
