Look mate, its the same exact kind of hazy grey bullstuff FD have been pushing since day 1, and if you really like what you got for the money I am happy for you, but at some point, for some of us, its time to say 'I'm getting off this ride, and maybe I'll pick it back up in the future when/if its fleshed out and at a reasonable rate'. At some point, as a consumer, you have to be responsible or the commerce will continue to test the boundaries. They are like children that way.
Go buy yourself an Anaconda and wait, cause you got an announcement instead of an update.

Then do so, no one is stopping you. Did you expect an update? No one else did, it was known it would be an announcement for some time. Sorry but people should expect to be payed for the work that they do. FD has to get payed to keep making games. If you don't like the game then say so with your wallet, nothing wrong with that. But calling them children and crying about it on the forums will change nothing, and just lessons your position, as it just shows that you are the one acting the child.

The fact is lowering the barrier of entry for future purchases is good for the game, it means more will purchase, more will play, and there will be more money for content to be created. This is a very niche game, putting the entry cost high just means fewer people will try it. Lets put it another way lets say FD charged the exact same for the expansion lets say 29.99, but you only got the expansion, then when that expansion releases they set the base game to 10. What would be the difference to what they are doing now? The price would be the same, the only difference is the mental hurdle people would go over making two purchases instead of just one. Prices for games go down, that is nothing new, i really have no idea why so many people are having a problem with something that has been true for the industry since its beginning. NVM the current model that FD is doing has been done before, heck GW2 is a prime example.

This is one of the least recommendable games I have played. Read that thread if you like, its here somewhere.
In the beginning Devs finished their game before release. You unlocked the specials and found the hidden levels.
Now we buy unfinished games and pay for special things and levels. Fair enough.
I don't care about the pricing, you are missing my entire point.
Elite Boring has been a huge topic for this game, they have lost players in droves. Steam Charts are miserable. (We all got our Keys, right?) Almost every update has fallen flat on its face.
Why do I want to buy an expansion for a game that fell so short in so many ways. Half Baked release, still a mile wide and an inch deep although its 3/4 of an inch deeper. Grind, grind. The worst P2P Ive experienced ALL year. Very slow development, constant frustration because its so buggy. (Looking at you Background simulation). Devs altering Power Play because 'things weren't intended to do that'.
At one point they must have been here:
Fix core game issues and player retention, or expansion?
They chose poorly, again.
Not a real 'expansion' either, Destiny style milk patches! LOL! Subscriptions, essentially.
Must have been a tough call.
Like I said, you need each other. I'll wait until its been around a few years and then see if its worth a buy, Im not hurting for things to play. Good Luck, FD.

Braben! IS WITH THE COST?!

ITS THE SAME <snip> PRICE AS THE GAME!!! FOR DLC! whats it gonna add? planetary landings.. ok cool... anything else? no? so im paying for DLC for a full game price? id like a full game. not 1/4 of a game

Why not check any one of about 9 threads on this. Your use of caps lock is making my eyes bleed. Bold and underline work better and arn't against the forum rules.
If you seriously expected a reply from Braben with a title and thread like that good luck, as such I can't be bothered to type out what has been quite clearly expressed in many many threads in page 1 of this forum.

Thank you for your message :)

Well that was a bunch of melodrama. ED has been at the top of the sales charts on steam since it came out, just because we have steam keys (i didn't bother getting mine) does not mean people are bothering to play through steam, nvm there is no reason too (heck you can buy through steam and still not play through steam). Its also a niche game, it was never going to have off the chart sales. Funny how FD own numbers show that most people have put in 60 hours plus, that is very good retention rates for a B2P game. The only update that people didn't really like was PP, all the others people did in fact like. Its the best P2P i have played all year, fast development, and has very few bugs.

You like others do not understand what a subscription is. So I will repeat since you ignored it, JUST DON"T BUY IT. Spitting out melodrama is not doing you any good, it just muddies the real issues and makes people just put you on ignore.

I certainly won't put him on ignore simply because of how he feels. It is a legit point as is yours. I think it's a bit steep especially for paying for the base game again. I wish I had more funds to throw at my monitor as I really would like to play this some more. This holiday however is loaded with things to purchase and I have to bump it down the list until a better time or a sale. Really bums me out. Love me space sims.
Next month at this time, I'm headed on holiday to England. I'll get this schizz sorted out for you all (at the pub).
If I were pricing this whole ordeal? between 30-35 for expansion 55 for new players. IMO.:)

PS - and introduce more skins and lower the cost as well. 12.50 USD dollars for the chrome vulture?

I'm not worried about the price, I'm worried I'm paying for incomplete... again. It would be nice if FD would release something in full and fully tested. Right now, the expansion is one small feature with 'improvements' through the year. Well, they haven't finished all the stuff they said they'd do/fix in the main game.

am a little shocked that we are having to pay for horizons. when we was originally offered this at the beginning and more on kickstarter. but if its worth it i dont mind if its going to be a big expansion and make the game tons better then its a good thing, but i been in the mind set that elite dangerous has still been in development and we havnt seen the finished product yet. i didnt expect to be paying for more content. and it seems even thou i was an early backer. i have to pay for the beta. paying for a beta is just rude and greedy. and wrong.. i actually paid £50 in kickstarter to help elite in development. we are seeing some promises broken now. be nice if we could actually see a little bit of gameplay before we pay out for this. but we are being rushed into buying it with cheeper pre orders. i dont appreciate this trickery if a games good and you enjoy it. like i do enjoy it. then whats the need to rush people into paying for something they havnt seen. i dont like it. i want to see something. lol.

i think we are being taken for a ride a little. we helped this game grow and become what it is. and yet we pay for our ships colours. and its not cheep. £4 to get 1 paint job. and more. i think sometimes companys just ask for too much dont stop to think about the players and if they are being treated fairly. i understand they cant make the game for free. but they havnt done. we have been there, and yet it seems if you give an inch they take a mile. frontier need to reduce the paint jobs that would be a start. i think there pushing us a bit much with our wallets.

It was mentioned on the Kickstarter page. Some of the Kickstarter pledge levels included the expansion passes. They identified planetary landings/walking around even at that stage.

The initial release of Elite: Dangerous doesn't mark the end of development. We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore. To achieve our goal we want the planets to come to life. We also want to add leaving the ships so you can explore space stations or board enemy vessels or even just to look around your own.

The main reason for treating these as expansions is so we can approach these with the proper development resources that we require to do them well. We don't plan or desire to just tick a box, we want to make these additions something significant.

Another avenue we intend to explore is other platforms, but for now the focus is very much on the Windows PC release. Only once the initial game is done will we start to look at other platforms.

Really big expansions are likely to be paid for while we also intend for some smaller free updates. If you have pledged to to £80 tier or above you will receive all expansions for free.

Then there were the dev diaries that specifically talked about the expansions.
Then there was the post launch plans that went to the press and the newsletter that outlined the expansion around release time last year.

I have no problems with expansions. As long as the prices are fair and the content is the price worth. Now we have to pay the price for the full game for this expansions. And all the cool features for planetary landing is not included. No walking on planets or stations (Yeah we got the jeep, because we are not able to walk around the ship. Another missing and important feature for planet side stuff), no landings on planets with atmosphere. All these features coming with the next expansion where we have to pay (I hope not) again the full game price.

They have, but their comments are spread all over. In a nutshell:

- Horizons will include the base game and all updates up to that point. So whether you're buying ED twice depends on your perspective.
- ED is moving to an annual subscription model called 'seasons' which is where new content will land. The base game will still receive some basic updates but what these are is unconfirmed. Players of previous seasons will still be able to play their content, but how they will integrate is unconfirmed.
- Horizons is £10 off for a limited time... but we don't know when that ends.

Everything else is TBC. Some are happy to jump on board with that. Others not.

Edit: Oh and they've increased the price of the lifetime expansion pass by a whopping 4x.

Don't forget though that you if you pre-order Horizons now and you dont own the base game then you wont get access to the base game until Horizons is released in December! I think a lot of people have gone to the store the past two days bought Horizons and thought they would be able to access the game now.
A lot of the pricing and plans make sense its just that Frontier dont always explain things that clearly in their announcements
