Oh look, yet another thread complaining about the price of the season, a price that will cover all of next year's expansions.

In which you'll perhaps have planetary landings that aren't included in this one, LOL

Serious lot of deep throats in here.

I agree with much of what you said, but the timing of PL is no surprise to me.

From the start, Frontier said it would be delivered 1 year after launch, and here we are, looking at the release date - exactly when Frontier said it would be, containing exactly what David Braben always said would be included in the initial PL release.

Well as you said it is the price of a game. Which is not a problem as such as new comers will indeed pay the price of a game and get an entire game. The real issue for me is for people who already own the original ED. 10£ off is not enough in my opinion.

Seriously, there are many threads that you can just join-in and voice your disapproval instead of creating another one.

You must have gotten a D in reading comprehension or something, because FDev have always said that Planetary Landings and such would be tied to paid expansions. LOL.

I think the price of Horizons is totally justified and in-line with expectations - and cheaper than a subscription model game that has as many patches as Elite does.
Elite has been waaaay more than it's moneys worth overall, in terms of gameplay hours, for a game built from scratch.

I'm surprised planetary landings have come about so quick. infact, the whole game has been done incredibly fast

I still think there is a lot that needs to be added - particularly on the life/personality/variety of the galaxy for solo players experience, and exploration. And I'm still disappointed at the p2p mechanics, lack of separation between solo & open, and a few other minor niggles. But I could say the same about any other game, and none of those have an online community where the developers do actually listen to players and occasionally even change the game as a result. Overall it's a deeply impressive game and probably up there with one of the best games ever made. ever.

and these forums seem to be chock full of self-important, overly entitled, constantly whining, spoiled brats - who think because they contributed to a kickstarter they somehow have special ownership of how the game should work. and most of you are ADULTS as well. grow up.

big ups Frontier, keep up the good work!

Wholly, completely agree.

Does Elite's core gameplay still need work? Yes.
Is the variety a bit lacking? Yes.
Does that mean the game is broken and unplayable and we're haemorrhaging players? Um... no, don't think so.

To be fair, I've had my own grumbles and moans, but overall this game has already been well worth the price I paid for it. I have contributed further through paint jobs - deliberately, not just because I want a new livery for my Asp or Vulture. I want to support this game because it has already been immense fun, and I'm happy I've paid for the Horizons Beta.

EDIT: One thing to bear in mind with regards to the forums though - if people are happy, they're less likely to say it unless they're really happy, whereas if they're even remotely unhappy they will scream and yell. The forums do not necessarily represent a realistic view of people's view of Elite: Dangerous.

All year's expansion? Are you talking about a full year of bug fixing and traditional feature such as wing? No offense but the updates we got up to now do not deserve the name of "expansion", they are instead content that should have been incorporated on day one. The video game industry really evolved a lot. Admittedly we get broader content than we ever did before, but we also get a new tendency: video game as a service: pay for an unfinished game, and then keep paying to have it developed as intended. A bit like ordering a meal and then paying extra to have it cooked properly.

But now it's in two separate expansions right (I could well be wrong here so please correct me as I am still confused over all this 'season’ stuff).
We get ‘planetary landings lite’ in year 2, and atmospheric landings in year 3?

Yay! This game is awesome!

I'd totally get the lifetime expansion pass, if it's still available when I gather the funds.

I think the £10 off is reasonable.

Having it time limited, without actually telling us a single thing about what it is going to contain, is what leaves a terrible taste in the mouth.

"Hurry up and give us your money before you lose out!" is a pretty cynical marketing strategy to pull on the very people who have supported you.

Agreed (apart from the bit about self entitled KS backers...we get it for free so are not moaning;))

People seem to forget that the game needs money to develop.

Because it won't just be an atmosphere put on top of a planet surface, it will be weather patterns, towns and cities, and LIFE.

FDev have said this is how they were going to do business. Major expansions will be paid for, and the game will constantly be developed over time. If you don't like it, you're free to leave.

This is the price of a game. Not of a bunch of features announced at start.

I don't seem to be the only one who's not gonna buy this. Expect a catastrophic failure.

So you felt the need to start another one of these useless thread?

I already bought the Lifetime Expansion pass last year.
Many others will gladly buy the 'Horizons' expansion.
And I bet it will be more than worth it. FD will make sure of that.
DB said 'Horizons' will get content comparable to an entire separate game.
Imagine what it takes to develop all this. And this is an subscription free game!
You want all that for 20 bucks or so?

But if you're not buying this wonderful expansion I will not be seeing you down on those planets and that is fine by me.

Do you mean that £39.99 for the game is too much?

You mean 50 euro for the expansion, and yeah, its waaaaay too much. I see a lot of people bragging about how rich they are, with the cost of night outs in London, but you know what? Not everybody is as rich as you, and we can't afford to throw money out the window like this. If we are to pay 50 euro's, it would be for a massive amount of high quality content.

But considering the progress of development ED this year, or better said, lack of it, I am starting to doubt that the quality of the expansion will be worth the money. And considering the games that are under development that are direct competitors for ED, that give us both space and land exploration, from the first version, there is nothing to justify a total price of 100 euro for ED, nothing. Some examples of upcoming games, with their prices: Star Citizen ofc, which I preordered for 20 euros, No Man's Sky its assumed it will be 50 euros, Empyrion - Galactic survival, a promising early access game, is 18 euros!
