UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

The person who uses the forum "The Dark Wheel" account has no relation to FDev, it's just someone who has rather arrogantly appropriated the name and should probably have been banned by FDev rather than allow them to confuse people like this. That map is a very good example of this as it was created by Erimus and has been used (as far as I know) without permission. The code text is just a request for people to contact him via Facebook.

Not least, the content is about the Formidine Rift - an invention of Drew Wagar that has gone nowhere and has no bearing on anything in game. And, unfortunately, probably never will.

Hey guys, what's the general consensus regarding a full lifetime recording of the UA? From drop, to death?

How many of you would be against 4 cmdr recording 4 angles at a decent distance.

1 more cmdr recoding the head up close

1 more recording from a distance

Several items dropped near the ua (sap8, AI relic, ect)

We could call it the "ultimate death test"

I want some opinions before i potentially do something stupid. We may not get a result but we would finally have conclusive death results. I'm thinking in sol. If any one would like to help send me a PM. If any one is against the idea, please let me know on the thread.

Yep, shame about that. I'm sure those within FDev can produce good story lines although we've yet to really see them. OTOH, reading Drew's Oolite Saga books (*) it is easy to see how his ideas fit naturally with Elite lore and could be incorporated into the current game. Must stop reading these forums so much and get round to reading Elite: Reclamation, lol.

In response to Ratking: (Forgot to reply with quote.)

Where specifically do they say that UA is not connected to the Halsey incident? After reading the dev update, my take away was that CGs are important to any story arc.

Okai, this needs a question / repeat because I see no other reference to whether this quest - and the direction it's sending us is related to the Pleiades.
Someone quickly debunk this info for me, otherwise I'll go nuts;

The Formidine Rift 'Quest' was something that Drew Wagar was keen on seeing FD build on with the Lady Kahina story arc. That story was being played out on GalNet a few months back.... but sadly FD decided to ditch Kahina in favour of their own characters that appeared with power play, so the Formidine Rift became a dead end.

I think with the UA, Soontill rumours, and Drew's Formidine Rift hints in the original UA thread, everything got a bit mixed up at the height of the UA forum frenzy, and all sorts of theories were being banded about at the time.. even fan fiction by yours truly  But we know now the Rift 'quest' isn't connected to the UA's.

As for the map, its a community thing, I just update them, so really they're free for anyone to 'borrow' if they want, as long as a mention of its origin (the community mapping thread) is made. The one the DW used was sort of classified at the time as I hadn't quite got around to posting proof of the discovery of the Bovomit region, in a mix up the DW asked for a map of the Rift region, but used it a day earlier than I anticipated (but it was never an issue to be honest) :)

Been there for hours, it stopped producing anything now, no sss, no wss, no USS and no bloody UA either.

Sucks to be a UA hunter... Respect for keeping at it.

There's got to be some exploitable thing there, if it genuinely goes dry, there's got to be a way to encourage it to start flowing again. Could be as simple as jumping a few systems out, then going back.

Also, I understand how ridiculous the test sounds... it's a shame none of the more logical tests have proven anything. If any one would like to add to the "definitive death" test please feel free to contact me. Let's rule out as many things as possible so we never have to sacrifice a UA again. Let's face it, these thing die easy any way. It will eventually happen we might as well control it. Branch has already done all the good tests any way :D

Interestingly enough, the eye witness reported hearing something funky when the President ship spooled their drive. - Oh Wow! I forgot about that!

Is the static sound significantly different? (Tweak the sound modes in options.. full - night time - any difference?) - I will do this next run

If so does it change when in different systems? - Yes... at one point I said to my wingmates "This time its louder."

I tried but failed to reproduce this in HIP 32673 and vicinity. There is static when charging FSD but sounds just like FSD charging in any other system.

Anyone every notice this?: A straight line of M class stars straight through NGC 1333, below the california nebula. Going to check it out later.

Was a short trip from Pleiades so I had a quick look. Seems to be around 400 LY long, and points in the direction of the civilized bubble around Sol.

It's also been quite densely scanned by other explorers already. Haven't found anything out of the ordinary so far.

Still it's a pretty interesting star group! Nice find :)

Just tried that. Dr A himself is around here as well. Might go and check out Maia and Atlas.

Just to underline Ratkings request;
*If you find a free floater in HR 1185 which doesn't degrade. Please call for support in here - DO NOT PICK IT UP*
It's needed for testing. Please repeat request for every few pages so people are aware.

Repeating again.

The request, for those joining late, is to leave a non-degrading 'floater' where it is and try to get as many warm bodies, emphasis on mass (so T9s very welcome!), around it as possible for a long recording.

Well it been confirm that story is currently not being developed so it unlikely there anything for us to find.

Isn't that just some random dude posting fan fiction. Having a bit fun.

Many thanks to all of you for clearing up the background on that particular story. +1

+1 because I think it needs to get swept under the carpet ASAP.

IMHO, as soon as non-degrading UAs were discovered, the whole mystery surrounding a UA 'death' became a moot point, because it doesn't naturally degrade.

But not everyone shares that view, so hopefully a definitive test might persuade :)

Or it might actually do something, of course - important to say that so I don't personally look a complete idiot if that happens!

Oh, who am I kidding ;)
