General / Off-Topic I REFUSE to Buy Microsoft, BUT I will buy anything you make for Mac or expecially PS4

Software houses don't make a super duper game for one console and one slightly more supery dupery game for the slightly more powerful console. They make a super duper game for one console and then port it to the slightly more powerful console. Sometimes the supery dupery version is slightly worse for this reason.
I hope I'm not being too technical here.

However, the XBox one is an inferior platform to the PS4 so I would encourage FD to release a PS4 build the day after that agreement expires.

Finally, Macs are gaining more and more popularity and Windows is hemmoraging market share to Macs.

Ha ha, the irony - using "inferior platform" as a reason to redline development of PS4 and then begging for Mac support - an inferior platform for gaming.

And the person claims to have worked for EA and is a Principal Software Engineer. Yeah, right.

I get the technology behind both consoles, but my point is clear they both do exactly the same thing - PLAY GAMES, with only the xbox one being and all in one entertainment system and the PS4 being a power house.

but..seriously FD should focus on polishing the ED before ever thinking about Re-Re-releasing a port to PS4

Whilst I agree, it's primarily just this: "the more platforms you cover, the more customers you can attract. The more customers you can attract, the more money you get. The more money you get, the more dev you can do. The more dev you can do, the more content and polish you can provide. The more content and polish you can provide, the more customers you can attract."

It's all about instant gratification,man!
All jokes aside Don't believe everything on the Internet. It's like once you made someone butthurt they want to pull out merits that don't exist. Like the famous " i'm a navyseal swat team general ensign medic swag lol I knoez my life"

Of course I'm on topic as Xbox is a Microsoft product... The reason Microsoft scrimped on specs is so they could bundle the Kinect controller at a reasonable price. The fact that most people didn't want the controller, or their always-online DRM put them on the back foot.

I remember the fuss when John Carmack said both console were pretty much the same. He had his rose-tinted VR goggles on at the time and was just commenting on the fact that both consoles were powerful enough to provide VR experiences.

yeah, I fell victim to buying a bundle X1 with a kinect. I don't even use that device it's only good for displaying it outside my window as a defense mechanism from folks trying to be shady. It does a great job at freaking people out..

I'm sure FD will release a PS4 version as simply the ps4 is like the xbone a PC with small adjustments, it would be daft not to really.

As for windows issues yes every platform has then whomhere remembers the Mac death from file:///? Yes bugs are everywhere but ya can't do a witch hunt cause of it. I've been using computers for nigh on thirty six years and I got a virus once in college that was it, as for script problems you can still get the same issues on a Mac yes its harder but not impossible.

Personally if I was a mod I would delete all the misinformed posts that are on the forum bit then it would be mostly empty lol

One thing doesn't the PS4 use a modified Linux variant, if they did port to PS4 it would flame the 'we want a Linux version posts' ;)

As a newbie to this game, I noticed that the expansion pack that I was set to pre order is PC only. I hate to say it but I simply WONT buy any Microsoft Windows oriented products. First of all I cant stand their software and their pro virus infection stance (which arises from their insistence on making everything transparently scriptable). Anyone doing any banking on a Windows machine is on their hands and knees begging to be a victim of identity theft.Second of all, I dont have a microsoft oriented computer. I Am a Principal Software Engineer and I dont even use Microsoft at work and I have no intention of changing that.

However, that being said I love your Product so far. I would happily puchase all expansions, all products on Mac OS X but would even more prefer them on PS4.

I know there is an exclusive agreement with Microsoft on the XBox one, I have many friends in the gaming industry here in Austin and used to work for EA myself so I understand these things. However, the XBox one is an inferior platform to the PS4 so I would encourage FD to release a PS4 build the day after that agreement expires.

Finally, Macs are gaining more and more popularity and Windows is hemmoraging market share to Macs. They are more stable, better waranty, not prone to catch viruses and generalyl better platform as they are built on BSD Unix. More and more the common platform of younger people is a Mac and all the stores are absolutely bursting with mac users. I would heavily encourage FD to not just support the mac but go to effort to make sure Mac users feel welcome.

Anyway thats all I have to say.

Back to shooting ...... rather getting blown up. Hopefully I will get the hang of this soon.

If anything, the Mac client should be shelved completely and resources currently being wasted on it reallocated to PC and XBox One. Frontier have already said it's a dead end as far as any future expansions go because it doesn't support compute shaders.

That's not what they said and in fact it DOES support compute shaders, just not via OpenGL. I'm not defending Apple here - I wish they'd support a more recent version of OpenGL - but you can use OpenCL or Metal. I'm sure both have their problems and it's for sure a big pain for Frontier, but there are solutions available to what is a purely technical problem.

Yep; stop supporting Mac and tell everyone to get a PS4 or a real PC. ;-) hehehe

Resources spent trying to port the Mac version to a different API would be better spent porting the PC versions to DirectX 12. There's just a greater benefit there for a much larger number players than messing around on the fringes for a few awkward ones.

So you don't like Microsoft because that have a 'pro virus infection stance' due to making things transparently scriptable, but are fine with Sony, despite that fact that they have been caught in the past installing rootkits on their customers machines? Well you can get a steammachine that like a console but without the massive downgrades

It would be interesting to know how many of the 'PC' players of ED are running OS X rather than Windows... My guess has always been that it's more than the industry average because of the Elite's heritage. But I'm probably biased!

I ran ED in my Mac's Boot Camp partition in the early days, and the Windows version still performs better than in OS X (on my old 2011 iMac 27"). But since everything else I do is in OS X, being able to drop into ED, play a bit and drop out again is obviously convenient.

I'm not going to play the "FD committed to it in the Kickstarter, so they must keep supporting Mac!", 'cos there's no commitment there as we saw with offline support!

I just hope that FD will continue to support Mac as long as it's reasonable to do so. If they stop supporting it, I'll play the game less, and probably completely stop from time to time. But we don't have any God-given right to expect it.

PS. Windows 10 is quite nice - glad I skipped Windows 8 entirely. Over 2 minutes to boot is a bit crap though - I need to look into that.
