Tips on how to increase rank post 1.3 [Direct from FD Support]

I'm trying to rank up with the Empire at the moment, as I'd like to get a clipper. In reading through many posts, it was suggested that combat through HIRES sites or bounty hunting would help, however after spending an hour at a NAV point bounty hunting any wanted faction ship that came by, my rep dropped through the floor (from 33 to 1 on one faction). On one hand I get that shooting up ships belonging to a particular faction would be frowned on, but if you need combat to gain rep and then get punished for it what's the point? Am I missing something?

Pretty weird then, i reached Prince (Empire) without a single Combat Mission, and i started doing them after 1.3
I was only trading, sometimes a few "charity missions", sometimes a few hauling missions.

It is double weird for me since I'm stuck on Baron since beginning of 1.2. Trading doesn't work (at least I've made hundreds of millions before I gave up on it ), charity doesn't work (at this point I lost tons of money), running all kinds of missions for minor factions allied with Empire doesn't work. What makes it even more annoying is when I do bounty hunting or fighting in CZ on the side of Empire vs Independent I'm ruining my rep with Empire and locals and at this point I'm not getting any reasonable missions at all. Last week I went for one of those and after shooting independents for an hour and a half at some High Intensity CZ I found myself with load of money in bonds and my rep with Empire went from Allied to Friendly. After that I wasn't able to get any mission except moving garbage from station to station. Next day I spent few tens of thousands on donations and I was able to take some better mission. At this point no matter what I do my rep goes down so fast, I can't keep up and rarely remaining allied for more than day or two. The only activity that doesn't hurt is logging in once in awhile and donating money, everything else makes things worse or best case scenario has no effect.

Either support is wrong, or its broken. I brought in more than 1 billion of bounties into an imp-system (yes, factions perfectly aligned with imp) and i didnt get a single rank progression, i also clicked around 500 charity missions in the meantime. sorry, guys - something is wrong.

One billion (1,000,000,000) or one million (1,000,000)?

If you refer to my post a few before your own, I had that same experience with combat missions and CZ farming in LHS 3836. However, when I travelled to LS 531, I received the Federation Rank Progression mission. Support indicated that it is important to turn bounties and bonds in at the controlling faction station for Empire/Federation in that system. However, to expand upon that further, I believe that the rep increase for system factions is actually increased in the surrounding systems where you receive the bulletin board missions, such as LS 531 in the case of my combat grinding in LHS 3836. It seemed that no matter how much grinding in LHS 3836 I performed for combat, the reputation would stil reflect downward arrow, but upon leave to the systems in the immediate vacinity, the reputation meter would reflect blue upward pointing arrows, and ultimately that is how I received my rank progression mission.

What about PowerPlay combat like Undermining ? do those kills advance the Navy rank ? How about Combat Zones ? Any definitive info on these combat types ?

"theoretically" ? So "it should" but you don't really know, then ? I was looking to see if someone actually knows about it i.e. a company statement, or someone did a repeatable experiment or something like that - thanks though.

fighting in combat zones for war or pp was the only thing i did over the last few weeks. yet, im stuck at "serf" in empire space.

maybe that rank progression is tied to the combat rank point system, that doesnt give me any rank EXP for killing anything under "competent"

While it's great that there is some consistency in navies looking for combat related stuff - again it's focused on combat. This is getting old.

Somehow I regret getting my Orca.

I've also noticed the delay in the direction of the rep arrow. I interpreted it, however, as being similar to the bounty timer running down...you know where it says something about "upon system jump" or something like that. It was just a guess in what appears to be a guessing game. :)

The FD support ticket response clearly states military action. I would suggest re-reading, as they did specifically state, combat related Board mission and turning in bounties. Note however they explicitly stated in the station controlled by the major faction.

I think that the reputation may also change from system to system based on local rep... remember, the reputation arrow goes up and down for a single instance of rep gain or loss, but then stays there until something cancels it out or causes rep to go in the opposite direction... as in, it is not a constant gain or loss, either way.

The entire setup needs tweaking, and they need to provide a meter so everyone is not in the dark with their progression.

I've just completed turning in over 35 million credits in combat bonds for the empire and still have yet to get a rank up from my current rank of Earl. Anyone else doing the War against Emperor's Dawn and getting navel ranks? Because I'm not and over 35 million credits sounds is a lot to turn in and have no noticeable rank progression.

If it is true that the station you hand-in your bonds has to be owned by the major faction you want your military rank to increase, at least the CG at Maausk won't help. Maausk (the station) is owned by an independent faction. Accepting bulletin board missions from 'Maausk Emperor's Grace' will help, though.

and today i log in and first thing i see at the bulletin board, is an ascension mission.
hello? does it maybe require that i get at least one fraction point of each pilot rank? because the thing i didn't do for month until yesterday, was trading.
