You just need some luck to get one I'd say. I was browsing the forums and with a refresh saw the codes pop up. Took a random one (not the first one) and typed it on the gift redeem page as fast as possible. And it worked.

They *are* for people who visited the ED stand at EGX, that's the whole point of creating the skin. Come to the booth, say hello, get a free skin, they also have free pens, stickers and lanyards (might have to buy something for those though).
You go to the ED stand and just pick up a skin code, how come you couldn't get one?

I think I got one today too, from ChaosWulff's YT stream. It said that the key I entered had been accepted, etc., so I'll take it as good.
I'm attending EGX and picked up a card code, however could anyone in the know *cough*Devs*cough* (or anyone from the previous pages) clarify if this is redeems an exclusive paint job or just a decal?.
Either would be cool, would just like to know.

This is one of the most asinine promotions I've ever encountered. Either don't bother publishing codes on the web or hand out the paint job to everyone in future please.
