The Smuggling discussion thread

Ben, you've got Lucan Onion Head in your list... I didn't think this was available anymore, since Onion Head production moved back from Luca / Tanmark to Kappa Fornacis? ...

Should it be completed before a certain time?

"following illegal rare goods (where available)" It's even trickier than you think ;)

I did it over two days.

Having picked up the Haidne Black Brew, I'm about 1/3 through the list.

This is great fun, I'm visiting places I've never been before and plotting good routes for future use!

Some of the stations are soooo far from the jump-in point, it takes forever to get to them. But after my lovely scuffed paintwork was ruined by that annoying ship-integrity-fixes-paintwork bug, all this supercruise travel is getting my Cobra looking back to how it should. That's a plus :)

Holva Duelling Blades are next...

Has smuggling got more difficult?

I am not sure if it is me - and it does not help that I have only just come back to the game just before 1.4 launch but it seems to me that silent running is no longer working. I am doing exactly what I have always done - line up just outside 5 km, request docking, go silent, dump heat sink, fast approach, in (hopefully without hitting anything) but now it seems every time I am scanned often from so far out that even a flat out approach never before tried did not get me inside quick enough to avoid the fine. Now admittedly the fines are very little compared to the reward but honestly it seems like I am approaching the stations with flashing lights and huge speakers yelling "Hey look at my I am carrying naughty stuff" rather than in silent mode.

I am not complaining - the 1.4 update definitely seems to have added a few more teeth to the game and I like the extra challenge but wondered if anyone else was having problems smuggling and if they had solved the problem.

I dumped my Asp for smuggling because I was scanned almost every time I docked with or without cargo. Switched to Cobra and then DBS and was never scanned. What size ship do smuggle in?

I'm now getting scanned at EVERY Orbital, Station, Platform, Outpost. This is happening in both my Cobra and my Vulture.

Still smuggling - not been scanned so far, but I have noticed sys auth ships turning up (in wings even) at orbitals. Which is alarming (in a good-ish way).

I am in my asp (because so far it is my favourite to fly) and I am flying missions out of my "home" station where I am allied and friendly to the controlling factions and I am only flying missions for them. I could try the cobra again and see what happens but I think I stripped it of all decent equipment when I got the asp to make sure I had insurance cover (learned that one early on lol) and I dont have a massive credit balance.

Type-6 was hard for me to start with in 1.3, so took a longer run up. Speed is key, end of, they don't have time to finish the scan. I ran a Type-6 into stations in beta without issues and look forward to doing so soon in 1.4.

Rather than boosting straight through at high speed, I prefer to 'terrain follow' very close to the surface of the station, coming in from the rear. AI doesn't tend to get too close to the station surface - it seems to spawn quite some distance away, fly in then 'scatter' a bit on approach. I wait for the scatter, then boost round the sides. Doesn't work all the time but...

Currently in my Python with a number of illicit cargo items.
5 stations docked, SysSec begin the scan as I enter the toast rack but I get inside before they can complete it. All I do is line up at 7-8km out, boost, boost, req docking, reverse thrust as I enter the toast rack and drop landing gear. I come to a stop neatly inside the station.
