UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

p.s. I vote we adopt this sound -> Morse -> coordinates -> image code as the Canonn's official encryption standard. Considering how long it took some very clever people to solve, it should be safe as houses...

Remember, it's only what the UA is doing now, not what it was doing in 1.3, and not what might do in the future.

The fact that 1.4 behaviour has been cracked isn't the end.

I am interested in Merope - like many are - there has to be something there somewhere.

Now we know that the message is not galactic coordinates, or an enciphered message; why the hell does it point to Merope!? Is it an indication of where it's broadcasting to? Or something else?

Anyway, if it is where the transmission is going, then where is the listener in Merope?

Not really saying anything new here; just saying it for my own sanity!

Argh, discovered and solved before I could even get a home Internet connection, well done MJK!

So question I wonder about is this - It was scanning the nearby bodies before, now it's rendering the nearby ships. It's clearly some sort of scanner, but what's it going to scan next? And like LordZoltan said, why the hell does it point in a single direction now?

Do deployed artefacts in different systems triangulate to a central point or...airless moon?

I made some changes to your code. This version colourises each triangle so you can more easily figure out which block corresponds to which triangle.

That's a cool addition! REP+

All of the pictures I'm see so far it seems like their are extra lines that shouldn't be there. Most likely they could just be decoding errors or perhaps we need to use those extra lines to create a new image.

I suspect the pictures are a bit wonky at the points of finer detail because the original model vertex positions have to be projected and then snapped to a 26x26 grid. The resulting triangles lose their perspective precision, or maybe don't always connect to their neighbors properly. There probably are a few decoding errors here and there too.

Throughout survey, encountered 5 x Salvageable wreckage containing either wrecked Imp. Clippers or else unidentifiable craft. Salvage included Small survey data cache (illegal),Large survey data cache (illegal) and Occupied escape pod (illegal)(?) / 3 x WSS : Commercial Samples, Rare Artwork, Experimental chemicals (all illegal) 3 x USS each containing a T6 with a variety of small escorts operated by useless pirates. I also encountered numerous SSS (<10 >5) but was unwilling to investigate following earlier experience except for 1 which was a medical convoy with Comms chatter about promotion for getting the job done etc.
No anomalous sightings

Honks occasional only: no results

And like LordZoltan said, why the hell does it point in a single direction now?

To me it looks like they are moving in specific direction.
Merope is used as an 'aft bearing'.

If you sit in Merope and switch nav target between Aries Dark Region GW-W D1-52 and Sol, you will see that they are very close.

The further away from Merope we can find an FF UA, the more accurate heading we get.

While we're all speculating:

Do the UAs ever turn up in Merope? I know they don't turn up everywhere, so their absence itself isn't evidence. But if I were sending out probes to scout the galaxy, I wouldn't bother putting them in my own backyard, which I already know all about.

I might be a bit out of date, but I recall people have already tested dropping off scooped UAs Hub-side and Rim-side of Merope, and it reorientates Rim-wards or Hub-wards to face it. In the system itself, the UA turns towards the system star.

I don't think this means the Mysterious Entities that are behind the UAs are actually in the star, but that the UAs only know to transmit in its direction where the Mysterious Entities would be able to pick it up in passing. There was no expectation that the UAs would ever be in the system itself, so the transmitting to the star in Merope when in the system is a 'bug' from unexpected input :) It's also a 'feature' in that it doesn't reveal the exact location of the intended recipients.

Of course, if it's the Thargoids, they might be right there but waiting in another spacial dimension (witch space?) watching us scouting the system, fiddling with their probes. Ready to pop out of seemingly "nowhere" when they're good and ready!

HAHAHAHAHHAHA

Brilliant stuff, well done. These genius leaps are what keep us (mostly) lurkers so enthralled!

The other two are rather worse. Maybe there are errors in the decoding, but I'll guess that it is an Python and an Asp.

I found the Cobra as well, but I think FD made a mistake in the drawing, because it is missing some pieces. I will not post it because it is awful.

Awesome seeing these ship models being realised! As speculation is rife :) mine is that maybe the poorer models aren't mistranslations of the code, or FD errors solely; are 'they' improving knowledge and accuracy of items they scan as they go along? This could be tested and *might* also fit with upcoming new ships in 1.5.

In all the furore of 'seasons' announcements and CQC controversy, it's easy to forget we're getting 3 major updates in consecutive months having waited around 3 for each previous ones. Even with the new ability to inject content to existing builds FD have indicated, consecutive major updates offer a great story development opportunity.

Anyways, stuff is gonna really happen soon, I feel it

You think the UA scanning the ships and sending the data back somewhere is a anti-theft mechanic?

Afterall, their creators seed them about the Pleiades, as they might be as drawn to Nebulae as we seem to be.
The Federal Navy starts picking them us, and we 'libertate them'
We then start picking them up from deep space.

Perhaps the scan and transmit is a form of LoJack
"This is the ship that stole me"

We stole so many of them, they turned "Report Crimes against me" to ON in their Functions menu on their Right Hand MFDU :p

What next???
