UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

From what I can see, there is not a single UA left in the Pleiades. They have relocated an multiplied in Aries/Aritetis region.

Merope could be their waypoint, but it does not seem to be their destination.

Did they pass thru the California sector as well (at least lore wise)?

Based on their current heading (Merope - ADR GW-W D1-52 line), they will pass thru the core systems a little bit down and left of Sol (seen from Pleiades).

Course will be more accurate if we find UAs further from Merope.

If you spot one. Please check distance. If it is more than 143ly from Merope, please post it.

Mission Update:
Completed Scour of Merope (without UA) out to 25kls to my satisfaction
Followed Medical Convoy from Celano > Pleiades Sector PD-S B4-2 > HR 1183 > Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-36 > HR 1185. Then it dropped at the sun, and the wake target was obscured so I could not follow (NPC CHEAT!). Have not checked, but seems a little wandering to me.

Todo List:
Eco route from Merope to Sol (Only as far as Mandjera) see how many UA hot spots I find
Raid a Medical Convoy (need a pretty good combat team)

nice, here's our original pre FD edit:

Voice of Varati – The Canonn Announces Scientific Breakthrough!!!

After months of research and effort, scientists working for The Canonn detected a sudden change in the transmissions emanating from the so-called “Unknown Artefacts” (UA), also known as “Anomalous Extraterrestrial Objects” (AEO) by Federation researchers. Now, just a few days later, they believe they have decoded at least part of these strange transmissions.

Due to the degenerative nature of the Artefacts, Canonn researchers have been carefully studying and recording the transmissions in-situ. Startlingly, the messages appear to contain schematic diagrams of the vessels being used to study the Artefacts. It is not known at this time who the transmissions are intended for, nor what they hope to achieve with this information. We can only hope that the artefacts are being used to study our vessels in the same peaceful manner that we have been studying them.

The breakthrough moment came when CMDR Mike Juliett Kilo was mulling over the problem whilst on a long cruise, and was inspired to pipe a pre-recorded UA signal into an antique scanner display system that he happened to be transporting at the time. He said, “I was prepared to see an alien face or Thargoid warship, but I certainly didn’t expect to see a Vulture… especially as I was flying one at the time. It sent shivers down my spine!”
The image could not be a visual artefact of the ancient scanner used to view the signal because the Vulture was not in service at the time the scanner was developed.

Research continues into the strange behaviour, as well as the increased number of UA encounters in the Aries Dark Region. The debate is ongoing amongst senior researchers at the Canonn’s new home and research facility in Varati, with some sides expressing serious concerns about how the information being gathered by these UA’s is intended to be used, or by whom.
could be a clue in the edit
hoping Prof Palin aka MB has something to say about this in a future galnet posts :D

Nice !

... AEOs again ( It was written as UAs right?) ...

looks like feds might have edited our post! its a conspiracy!!!

Ah well .... I thought we had talked about Pleiades and it got changed to Aries Dark Region, but no .... So just the Filthy AEOs

and interestingly this bit "It is not known at this time who the transmissions are intended for, nor what they hope to achieve with this information. We can only hope that the artefacts are being used to study our vessels in the same peaceful manner that we have been studying them."
they removed the reference to the UAs transmitting to someone
oh and our attempt to save ourselves from future wrath :D

Does the Canonn group have a base that they like the UAs to be delivered to? Or is it just a matter of playing around with them?

The Canonn's home is Varati, Bond Hub has a blackmarket so you're welcome to sell UAs there. If you're looking to pass one on for science it's probably best to post here. But they're easy to find now so I suspect most people who want one already have one. Playing around with them is definitely recommended. I'm sure there is more to discover.

On a lark I checked to see if the UA's will pass into Regor, given their current baring (if that's to be taken seriously, if their "center of activity" is moving), but it looks unlikely such an intrusion will occur unless they basically make a 90* turn when they hit the bubble.

got me my own free floater and broght it to merope not hoping to learn something new but to see some things for my self.

in the end let it expire... there was a flash but bo "beam" of sorts pointing anywhere. is that right?

Again - congratulations to MJK. And to everyone that's been in here, and 'over there' on canonn.science.

The mystery's not over - and hopefully we've ensured that MB and team are free to move things to the next stage. Meanwhile we still have many questions, so glad to see the science continue!

Also - well done on the Galnet - a nice bit of collaborative editing, in double quick time. Sometimes we actually appear to be quite well organised!

Now to apply that to my RL! ;)

No name at the bottom to indicate it was community sourced. Oversight or have FD claimed this story as their own? Perhaps it will have the name when it is in game.

Oh yeah - didn't spot that!

I guess there's an argument that it's 'official' canon. Either that, or they're as a keen as we are to see the news out there - which is a good sign in itself ;)

Either :
1. Its official plot, just seen through the words of a galnet subscription
2. Due to the edits it is no longer the Cmdrs words
3. Snafu

It may end up being unrelated, but I think it is definitely something worth discussion at least until we know what it is. The recording linked in the thread sounds like garbled speech towards the end.

I cannot edit my posts yet since I just made my account. My above comment is in reply to Rubbernuke's comment directly above it.

Just an useful off-topic Tip for my fellow CMDRs from the Canonn:
last night I made 20 Millions in 1 hour, just doing a few long range smuggling missions, all at the same time, with a simple DBX with 32T of Cargo space :D
Check Sirius Corporation's new Colonies ;)
Just be careful because you will be interdicted and scanned a lot: silent running, chaff and heatsinks are a must.

At Last! after having lost my first and only sighting during the convoy raid I finally grab my very own UA!

It was in the ADS GW-W D1-52 sector like many have reported.

Finally being able to capture a shot of the Lone Star with its sights on a UA was... special

Regardless of the excitement I still didn't lose sight of science so...

Found it roughly about 3-5 minutes from jumping into the system at about 100-150LS from the Star. Scanned me as soon as I dropped out of SC and proceeded to do start its GO / signal / STOP usual routine that has been described ad nauseam. Observed it for a bit to soak it all in (still freaking out here) but I did take note of its appearance from a distance. Small imperceptible object, closer the view gets a bit "gray" and fuzzy and you start seeing firefly like artifacts from it which seem to appear noticeably bright, then closer at about 100m or so the grayness becomes darker and warps the vision and the fireflies seem dimmer, then at about 50m or so the distortion seems to envelope the entire view and the fireflies are again more noticeable with the "field" around it being a shade of hyperspace blue. Looking at this thing in person this time it really does seem like it is some sort of phase shifted object like it's there but really isn't as if stuck halfway in hyperspace... very unique.

After about 5 minutes of looking at it I checked merope's coordinates and other nearby systems (see shot) and it does appear that it orients itself toward the Pleiades/Merope area. I engaged cargo scoop and this time I can't help but notice the scoop's virtual screen shows the outline of a UA rather than some nameless cargo canister or stock image (that was interesting) and then I secured it. Shortly thereafter my heatsink started getting damaged from the UA's toxic emissions. And that's when I shut it down.

Overall still pretty excited about the whole thing. I actually woke up in the middle of the night to do this I had a feeling, and there it was... like disco lemonade.
