Horizons: Can we build our own home / base / garage?

Something i feel Elite is missing is somewhere to call home. Its always a nice feeling whether you have been out exploring, bounty hunting, trading or what ever to have a place to call sanctuary or a final destination to come back too and call home. In the X-series, you could set up and colonise a system, defend it, have patrols set, and so forth and this provided a feeling of a home system.

In Elite it seems, with all systems / stations being rather a copy of the last, with no connection to any in particular, no where to take a break from the cockpit, it all feels rather hobo and distant.

Would it not be great if you could find some far off (or near) distant planet on the dark side of the moon, where you could at least set up a small home with warehouse to store containers of both ship equipment / commodities, somewhere where you could park your ship outside and go in and sit down to watch the Gall net news and chill for a while. A sort of Garage / warehouse for you goods and a sense of home.

Naturally it would always be open to being discovered though..

Fat chance of that happening mate anytime soon, I still haven't seen another face in the game since day 1. Universe of billions of people and I'm yet to shake the hand or even see a face of any one of them.

I doubt it will be in Horizons, but may be in the future. Who knows?

I like the idea of a "home" - Shinrarta Dezhra is currently my home system but am thinking of relocating elsewhere. Something that could I mark as a Chez Minderbinder or something would be nice I guess.

Maybe try heading to one of the more densely populated areas? In the Mobius group, I am constantly seeing other players - one day I may even hail them for a chat :)

You missed the whole point of my post.

As a gamer who loves to role play yes I would love that! I love it in the elder scrolls when I get to buy or build a property... I'd love to be able to stop off at a space station en route home, get outta my ship and chat to other cmdrs or npc chars at a bar...

I suspect Horizons will sow the seeds for this if not bring it in properly.
While a lot of people have been opposed to it, I feel that it's really important for a vast universe like this.
The galaxy is immense and amazing, but none of it is special. You have no connection to any of it.
I don't want to take over the world, but even putting down my mining rig in Frontier meant that one small corner of the universe was important to me.

In a game where there's endless space for everybody, and far too much to fill with hand crafted content, it's a great idea for the players to make their own connection with some part of it, so the otherwise insignificant events there now become more important to them. It's also an obvious opportunity for cosmetic items which bring money to the game.

I remember frontier back in the day where you could set up a home on a planet, and put a beacon there. would be kinda fun to have a clipper on the front lawn :)

This is one of my favorite things about ED, you are insignificant. Consider the amount of large combat fit ships a poor minor faction can throw at another poor minor faction in a backwater system civil war, what we have and own, is peanuts compared to the economies, maybe even just a little bit of the salt off the peanut. Stations would cost billions upon billions to build. From my experience in other games with player owned and maintained real estate, it usually becomes a chore for the owner and an annoyance for other players.

You're a very small leaf, in a very big, very windy galaxy. Isn't it great?!

Can we have something like this. Awesome building.

I want my own moon base. But we will see a lot bases like in Iron Sky movie if players can grate one. And that is the reason we won´t get it.

I can't see how as it's written in plain English.

I took your post to mean that you had yet to run into anyone in game. Your follow ups indicate it is more a passive-aggressive dig that ED is not the game that you thought it would be because of the lack of human interaction? Other than that, I do not get your point.

It's exactly the game I thought it would be. Don't you find it slightly ridiculous that in the year 3000 whatever you never get to see a face or even the outline of another human/alien person anyway in game or even a little graffiti something to make it seem less sterile?
Something I hasten to add another Elite game has that was made over 20 years ago?

There will be storage facilities for cargo, at the very least, since we're getting crafting sometime in 2016 as part of the Horizons season of content. Realistically we'd need someplace to store bits and bobs we've picked up before making useful things out of them.
