mid March 2014 is confirmed as Alpha release 3. There will be an additional Alpha release after that, then one or more Beta releases, and then Gamma before the game is released.
There has been no confirmation of a new date, it will be done when it is done. However the March 2014 date for publication will not be met. The best guess at present is sometime in the second half of 2014.

I have a feeling that there will be more Beta releases than Alpha - reason being by Beta 1, the initial framework of "the game" will be tested and there will definitely be things that are overlooked, imbalanced, bugged etc.
By Beta 2 (July?) things should be fairly stable and polished, and players will basically be testing weirder stuff that people don't usually do.. like flying into a sun and see what happens
I think that the 20 September date which was joked about, is starting to look more and more likely...

I know its a terrible and inconclusive wait for the Beta, Gamma and full game and having Alpha videos up on You Tube can't help calm those itchy trigger fingers. But personally I'd rather FD got things to a state so they were happy to put them out to us to test properly.
We really, REALLY don't want another X-like release debacle!

Indications seem to be very much in line with what you would like them to do.
Having played the Alpha I can assure you the current alpha, very much incomplete though it is, is still light years ahead of the last X release.
Ouch, sorry man, hope you didn't have a system all setup to play the game in a couple of days.
You may be a victim of Frontier expecting all backers/buyers to read this forum

At the moment there isn't a US store, and I have heard of no plans for one.
In any event if $84 is the translated rate, it would be $84 in the US store, surely?
Welcome to the internet, where a product for sale at $399 in the US will magically translate to £390 in the UK. Maybe if it hurts both ways Something May Be Done?
I don't know the VAT rules on software cross-border purchases. You may be able to reclaim the 20% VAT on that. I doubt it, but I don't know the rules so there is a chance.
50GBP is for the regular Beta (dorsn't include Expansion Pass)
There is no US store (although if you wait for Commercial Release - probably latter part of the year you will probably find it in stores in the US for a lot less but the date is estimated and has been estimated from the beginning).
For Gamma release it is 35GBP
For Premium Beta (which includes the Expansion Pass) it's 100GBP
Or you can buy all major expansions separate for 35GBP (of just wait until they come out and pay for each I assume?)

Premium Beta will come out after the 2 remaining major phases of Alpha are complete, then Regular Beta, then Gamma and the Commercial Release will come out when FD determines it's a finished product (rather than releasing a substandard or broken game early like many do?). I've read that Gamma MAY be an extended period (like Minecraft was) so don't hold your breath.
BUT, it seems things are moving along and I have every confidence FD is working extremely hard to make Elite: Dangerous a great game.
I've been playing Alpha since halfway through January and I'm impressed!

We already know what happens when we fly a spaceship into a sun. The rock concert is over. The roadies pack away their skyscraper-sized speakers, and the audience emerge from their sound-proofed bunkers chatting incessantly about how good the show was, in a vain attempt to mask their telepathy.
In a recent interview Braben stated he thought the retail version might be ready by the end of the year (2014). Gamma release would be sooner, but unknown how soon.
Currently as stated the next phase of alpha is set to drop in March.

buddy if your looking for the general release for Elite then im putting my money on for a July release at the earliest.
Yeah, right now this date sounds like they will gain the most by postponing release until then.
Gamma will give all the backers access, so they might already be playing by the end of summer if all goes well. But from a PR point of view, it would probably not hurt FD if they can make a real huge anniversary extravaganza with full release and all the bells and whistles around the 30th anniversary of Elite.
I'd like to know where it said, in stone, that release date was ever March 2014. At best the kickstarter said:
"The game is planned to be released on the PC in March 2014."
The key word there is "planned". If wishes were kisses, you'd be holding your boxed set of E: D in your arms and landing a smacker right on it right about now.
The good thing is that we seem to be more up-to-date with information recently, so keep your eyes peeled on these forums, or even our subreddit at www.reddit.com/r/elitedangerous which has some very active contributors posting the latest news.
Delay ? What delay ? In development there is never a delay. Just of the refining
