4K at 60fps

Hi.

Does anyone have any experience from running game at 4K resolution? I am thinking of buying a 55 inch 4K TV. Got 2 970 MSI and a 4930k at 4.5 ghz. Would it manage 60fps all the time?
Thanks.

You could (almost) test this yourself by selecting supersamling 2.0x if you have a 1920*1080 screen today. Then the graphics is rendered at 3840*2160 and downscaled to fit the screen. Performance would be almost the same.

Quite sure it will.
I have one GTX970 playing @ 3440x1440 with ultra setting and I get constant 60 FPS (RES & station).

I play it int 4k/60fps. The framerate can be easily achieved (E:D is not demanding in terms of resources), but still it microstutters a bit every now and then due to design flaws/bugs in the Cobra engine (Star Citizen runs a bit smoother, despite putting more load on the system at the same resolution and quality settings).

2x 970 should suffice for max quality. Might get a little bit lower in spacedock though.

actually, no. first because 4k would be 4xssaa and second, because ssaa seems to be really badly optimized in elite. when using nvidia's dsr i get better performance in uhd (3840x2160) than in 1080p 2x ssaa.

@OP, your system should handle this just fine. i'm using a single 780 and can run the game in uhd @60fps vsync. i have to put some details down though.

I have an i5 CPU, 16gb Ram, and a single 980Ti. I run over 60fps @ 4k, with very high settings.

I'm at work right now, I'll add my full spec and settings tonight when I get home.

2x 970's should run it at 4k fine at 60fps, assuming the SLI works fine - I remember a time where ED didn't support multiple cards (I still think it doesn't for AMD).

How on earth have you managed that?!? With a single msi gtx 970 gaming edition I can only get 35-45 fps at 4K :(

Must be the rest of my system is letting me down i7 4790/16Gb ram/game on a 256Gb ssd. Time for an upgrade me thinks :(

System - latest drivers. All settings via "Graphics" options, I think shadow is set to "high". Maybe the resolution (3440x1440) ist the solution.
I can post settings later plus screenshot of proof inside station.

I may have just had a bit of a duh moment

Somehow I didn't spot your res of 3440x1440. I'd assumed you were running at 4096x2160.

Phew, I had a mini heart attack thinking my system wasn't running as it should!

I run at 4K with a 970 and high-ish settings on everything but shadows. I get a constant 60 fps apart from near large stations.

If you're buying a 4K screen make sure it can support a true 60Hz refresh rate at 4K. Also check you get a later HDMI (1.2?) that can support 4K at 60Hz.

I run at 4096x2160 with all settings maxed out and get around 45fps when things get busy on the screen. Odd times it will dip below this but not for long and it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game.

I have a 780Ti, i5 CPU & 16gb of 2400mhz RAM. Had this system for 2 years now so maybe time for an upgrade.

Yes, I run at 4K and get rock-solid 60FPS everywhere (I never play with vsync off, so I don't know what it will go up to) with 2 SLI'd GTX 980s.

I honestly couldn't tell you whether you'd get the same with two 970s however.

To the OP: Assuming the 55" TV supports DP 1.2 or HDMI 2.0, your setup should deliver 60fps.

Your CPU may be slightly overpowered for the game. However, if you need it for other purposes or more CPU-intensive games, 6 cores are a good choice.
The GTX 970 has some memory issues with 4k resolutions, I recommend to read some reviews (esp. those that actually review 4k SLI / CF resolutions). I had the chance to try both GPUs and got better results with the 290X in CF.
I am running a 42" display / DP 1.2 @3840*2160, 2*290X, core i7-5820K.

SLI works well with ED, I have one SLI system running 3 v-sync monitors at 7800 x 1440 and it runs at 120 fps +, super smooth, ULTRA settings

I also have another PC with single GTX 980 hooked up to a 4k TV (3840 x 2160) and get 60 fps in space (v sync on), but drops to 30fps at some stations, this is with ULTRA settings. I have just bought a 980 TI to replace the 980 as this should give a few more FPS in 4k.

So in my experience I would recommend at least a GTX 980 for ED in 4k, but SLI 970 may also give good performance.

I'm using a single GTX 980m (slightly weaker than a single GTX 970) and playing with all settings maxed and 2x supersampling. 40+ FPS in stations, 60-75 FPS (with 75 Hz panel) in space/battles/scooping/anywhere outside of stations. 2x 970's would definitely do it.

I'm running at full ultra settings, 3840 x 2160 DSR. I get a consistant 75fps in space/combat/asteroid fields and it dips to 55-65 in stations. Running a single MSI GTX980 twin frozr OC - 1460mhz.

Would probably run fine, I use a single 970 (Gigabyte G1) at 2560x1440 (DSR) and it's >60 fps constant, when I was using 2 of them I could set it to whatever setting and it wouldn't miss a beat. To be honest, I imagine the single 970 can handle 4k, I just have no reason to try it because I'm using a 1080 monitor. Unfortunately I had to sell my other card to make rent when I lost my job.

I've just read that people in better systems than me are getting less performance, which is surprising and saddening. I use a i5 2500k (OC to 4.4) and 8GB Memory on an p7z68-v pro/gen3. I also use SweetFX although it has no effect on the performance.
