Personnal AI Assitant, more life, more purpose

I would love to see something like a personal assistant implemented to the game.
It would help you understand the world you're living in, and not feel thrown away into this huge galaxy with no purpose.
The AI would actually be some kind of live tutorial that you could on demand interact with in all menus, or approaching new things.
It could be like interrogating your system to tell you more about this or that. In spacestations, in your left and right panels in your spaceship...etc...

It would help new players to understand the allegiance system, reputation etc... or things like trading, mining, etc...
Optionnaly it could also give you live information on planets, suns, or others objects.

In my opinion, it would give more life to ED, feeling less alone when needed (because we all like to feel alone in this huge galaxy most of the time)

The way I see it, it would be more like an AI discussing things with you, to not break the immersion.

For instance, if you want to know more about factions and allegiances, your AI (man or woman?) would interrogate its database, and ask what do you want to know, with several propositions (mass effect style??)

Crazier, you could set different parameters for your AI (interstellar :)), honesty, humor, etc... but that would ask a lot lot of work for not much but fun.

EDIT:
Even more crazy, an AI with moral, interrogating your moral, and changing its own depending your actions.
For instance, taking your first trade slaves mission, it will interrogate you, rhetorically and philosophically, if you still complete the mission, it will never ask again, and change its own moral.

But don't take all this suggestions seriously, I really just want an onboard AI system, that you could even interrogate when you're not in your spaceship (through a wireless system, for when you're buying equipments for instance).

Umm this game doesn't 'throw you in at the deep end.' Between the adequate FD:ED tutorials and the 700 billion YouTube vids I don't see how anyone can claim this game throws you in at the deep end. I think most people want to be spoon-fed and given everything right this second. If you mean this game has a learning curve, as in, there are more moving parts than the average game, I can agree on that. ED (and other space sims) operates in three dimensional space and that does take some getting used to. It is refreshing to play a sim/game without cheats, exploits, and so forth. You have to work at this and that is a breath of fresh air.

My point is it doesn't really explain the controls very well, I picked it up fine but there is a lack of actual "in game" tutorial other than say "go elsewhere" particulary on Xbox One. I know of some friends of mine are quite interested in the game but when I mentioned the steep learning curve and little in game guidance they quickly lost interest - which I can't understand to an extent (despite my rave reviews for it haha).

So you need an AI to explain the morals to you...

...who's the human again?

Great, a "preacher in a box"

Why would any AI be moral?
And if it was, why would it be the morals you think it should be?

I feel like people don't really read or try to get the points. They are just being sarcastic about things that scares them.
So yeah, this was a suggestion inside the suggestion, and yeah, a "new born" AI would have like a child moral.
It would interrogate your moral not explain things to you. You totally know what you're doing.

As it is now, trading slave missions feel dull, you don't feel like there is a real impact, or that the game really "mind" what kind of missions you complete to earn your cash, if you know what I mean. For instance, I'm trying to avoid those missions, but then I'm like, f--k it, it has no real impact beside changing few statistics, and I earn more cash, it is just the title and summary of the mission that change, and the paycheck of course, not as different as trading medics.

Youtube videos? Really? And then people talk about not breaking the immersion. Yes of course, I'm going to go watch youtube videos while I'm playing (which I already did to know more about mining). That's totally stupid and I hate it, I will not do it ever again.

And i don't want to have to quit the game, going through a lot of black screens transitions, to launch what is clearly a tutorial, ending up in a spaceship that is not mine. Again, immersion?

It really feel like people are afraid that the game becomes some kind of linear scripted game, that tells you where to go and what to do. That is not what I'm talking about, and it wouldn't be even possible in a game like ED.
Please READ carefully, what I said is that it would be cool to have an onboard AI that you could interrogate whenever you need it.
In substance it would actually be an on demand tutorial, but in form it would feel like you're just chatting with your spaceship AI, there would be no black screen transitions to show you s--t , just the AI talking straight to you while you're doing your things!
This would be optionnal and whenever you need it, not scripted.

Damn, ED community is so conservative and afraid of any change.
This suggestion won't even impact your gameplay, you won't even have to use it. Even if it could say something about what you're doing, you could just disable your AI commentaries.

To me this could bring a new perspective/dimension to ED (at least for some people), as I said, it would bring more life, more purpose, sense, credit, to what you're doing.

Did you learn to drive a car by just getting into one? No....

You probably read a book and watched videos, and had someone show you how to drive. (Probably anyway. Otherwise, what is a Dad supposed to do?)

But you want to fly a space ship without watching a few videos and doing the tutorial? THAT breaks immersion?

Faulty logic + bold text == I wants the precious, damn you all.

What you want does impact me, as significant resources would be needed to pull it off, taking them from other improvements that might benefit everyone, not just you.

I think some of this is doable. Like in galaxy map, saying 'tell me about the third planet' would kick off the game telling you about it's age, metallurgy etc

Speak for yourself. Many people, like myself, just somehow know. It's inexplicable.

I sat down in a car back in 2001, managed to drive stick until the police stopped me and took me back home. I was born in late 1991.

So yeah, I sat down in a car and operated it for the first time, alone, when I was 9.
13 years later, I aced the exam. By then I'd been taught, ofc, but before then... Not so much.

So if you're going to answer your own rhetorical questions, it might be a good idea to pick ones that wouldn't be applicable to anyone. At all.

And I actually agree I don't want to watch videos to learn my internet space ships.
I'd much rather study the controls or, better yet, go through a comprehensive in game tutorial teaching me step by step what to do.

Not the tutorial in its current form. It is utterly useless. But something that is contextual and applicable in a more intuitive way. Maybe even something explaining the perks and quirks of the ship you're learning to fly.

The rhetorical question is still valid. If you can operate a car intuitively in real life without any training a tremendous personal risk and reckless risk to others , then why do you need a virtual assistant to fly a much simpler and zero risk virtual life space ship?

It is a peculiar ability and deficit set you have there.... seems constructed to bolster your arguement.

Still boils down to you want it, and that is the extent of your "logic".

Not a compelling argument.

I love this idea! especially to hear that AI voice calmly say things like "I'm sorry Jon, I can't turn the life support back on" lol

But seriously, even just having it read info to you that you click on or when you scan might be cool.

This line of logic is stupid and childish.

It's not ED, in my opinion. Just you and your ship in the black. Meaningful interactions are with other players, not with your AI companion. A lot of what's there isn't narrated to you, it's sort of just stumbled upon and this is fine.

Not sure where the toxicity is coming from, oh, wait, this is a gaming forum, almost forgot. IMO "meaningful interaction" is different for each individual and what is "fine" for some is unacceptable to others.

If this is something that can toggled on/off, what's the harm in it?

This sort of response to nearly every suggestion thread is unconstructive and tedious.

If it's a toggle option then you can't complain that it would hurt your experience. If you're opposed to the redirection of dev time towards something you personally don't want, then you're being selfish. If it somehow affects your grand view of the very essence of ED, then you need to realise that you're just playing a game and ultimately, none of this really matters.

So how about we let people post their imaginative ideas without the relentless and predictable barrage of negativity. Just a thought.
