News Sneak Peek #4 - SRV to the rescue

WOW! Looks fantastic. I cannot wait to see it in the Rift. :)
I'm also in a dilemma. I'm currently 20kly out near the core. My plan was to hit Sag A* and head back before Horizons release. Now, when the Beta is released, how on earth am I going to have time to carry on exploring and enjoy all the Horizons fun.
Looks like time off work is required.

Seriously though FDevs, you all should be very proud.

You didn't see that giant turret on top of the base?

I guess the code controlling that is just placeholder, as you wouldn't expect a big gun like that to be able to track an SRV from what has been said so far. Nor to fire such dainty projectiles... No, I'd hope that is a big AAA gun for deterring orbital visitors.

Watching this video makes me hope there will be 'get to the chopper' gameplay where you have to get into a defended base, disable its AAA, then steal a ship to escape a planet.

The scale the scale!! The chaos the chaos!! OH YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crashing into a small object, nice driving Mr Braben 10/10!!! Hahaha. ;)

Considering that this is of the same location as last weeks peek, just a little bit later in the game session...it makes you wonder how many video clips like this of Horizons content they have sitting on their harddrive already just waiting for an audience. ;)

If we are lucky, at the end we will get the whole recording without any gaps. :D

sure in the stream they mentioned you can still drive the SRV whilst in turret view.

Yes, thanks. But typically that kind of steer with one hand/thumb while aiming with the other hand/thumb ends up being quite awkward (like moving your hand in a clockwise circle while moving your leg anti-clockwise :) ). You tend to end up either driving while shooting very badly, or shooting while driving very badly.

It's kind of notable to me that in the first livestream where they showed the turret, the vehicle was barely moving forwards and back in open terrain. And here, where they're driving around obstacles, they're not firing. There's no video where they're driving around close obstacles while firing the turret - my guess is that's quite awkward to do. Like other, I'd love if VR / head tracking could be used for head-mounted targeting, or else a limited lock on (like the gimballed weapons in space flight) that would make it much easier.

I'm sure this comes up a lot but my goodness, how I'd love player created/owned bases. Watching the clip back, it makes me think of being a unit in a Command & Conquer style RTS. Imagine driving through a load of Tesla coils as the base player giggles gleefully from his command centre. Sorry. It's stupid. I know. I'll shut up now.

Sabotaging another players lucrative mining operation though! You, like, you get a contract and and... I'll shut up. I should go make my own space game. :(

If you look at the video again, you can see an orange triangle up high in the scanner - it could be a SRV up high on a hill or perhaps a ship hovering overhead. I wonder if that's the Corvette; though it's odd that its weapons aren't deployed.

It looks like a large ship on the ground at the top of the hill. Well spotted.
