HOTAS for Xbox One: Vote now!

It's a lost cause. They already said they (FD) wouldn't do it. Best of luck though.

I don't believe FD would have to do anything. It would only involve XBox, and possibly a third party company to build it if they didn't want to design one themselves.

That is true but I think FD said they wouldn't allow it since it would give people too much of an advantage over others who didn't have it. If my memory serves correctly it's the same of why they won't allow Kinect either since not everyone has a connect.

Which is why you can't set the controller the way you want it and there are based restrictions on it. Even the new controller that just came out.

Yet on the PC people can use an xbox controller, HOTAS or old fashioned keyboard and mouse. So what's the difference?

Somebody on PC is getting an advantage. Well, you would think, but the best combat pilot I know uses keyboard and mouse.....

This makes no logical sense to me, considering they allow players to choose between contollers and HOTAS on the PC version, not to mention complete controller and keyboard mapping...

Exactly.

Cause on PC everyone starts with a keyboard and mouse. If you want to get a fight stick/controller/Hotas you can. But everyone has the right to map everything they want how they see fit. On Xbox one it is only pre mapped to the controller.

I am not saying it is right, or defending FD. Just from the QA and other stuff they already said no to it and that it would give some people an unfair advantage when they can do more stuff than the base group.

PC base is keyboard/mouse with unlimited options to set it up.

Xbox one base is a controller.

I would like to see voice commands or a Hotas as well but since they already said no I have to deal with just the controller.

Yeah thats a shame 'cos that would be the one thing that would make me buy kinect.

I've tried using keyboard and mouse on the PC and find it next to impossible to control the ship with a mouse. I use a HOTAS normally, but the xbox controler is my back up and I would much prefer that than K&M anyday.

Also, FD's stance on this doesn't make sense. With the PC they have all been about promoting different ways to play, VR, head tracking etc. XBox should get the same treatment IMO.

I think there is a misunderstanding here...I thought it was Microsoft, not Frontier, that said no to other peripheral support. It would make zero sense for Frontier to take that stance, whereas, Microsoft has much more incentive to "protect" its customers from so called "unfair" advantages.

EDIT: Stop using so many damn pronouns...I'm getting confused...Proper Noun then Verb, just to keep things clear.

Or it was Microsoft that said it. Just remember a couple of months back here was no plans for an advantage. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

From memory, forgive me for not having a link, I am pretty sure I read in an AMA or similar from FD that they WOULD support HOTAS on Xbone. The problem is, no one makes a HOTAS for Xbone, and the general consensus is no one will due to limited market.

*again from memory, regarding the Kinect, I thought FD said they may use it in the future, but have no plans as of now because they are focused on so much other stuff.*

Now, I could be wrong on both of those accounts, but I do follow a bit of what FD puts out just to see where this game may or may not go.

*EDIT* https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/3jhk50/its_david_braben_from_frontier_developments_ask/

There may be more in there that is relevant as well, but there is a ton of not relevant stuff to sift through as well.

[–]flibblesanflibblesan 9 points 2 months ago Hi David,
I had the pleasure of meeting you at GameCity a few years back. Just wondering if there will ever be support for USB joysticks added to Xbox Elite Dangerous, or even an official joystick specially for Xbox One owners?

I too would like other joysticks. I suspect they will come with time (much as "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" had special controllers)

Exactly... Should be able to use what you want or are comfortable with.

Hit up Microsoft. It's a no brainer for them if they get enough encouragement and demand.

It's not Frontier or Microsoft who has to do the Lion's share of the work, it's the hardware companies who have to make new driver software to work on the XB1 that you've got to convince. You can't just take the software that Thrustmaster, Saitek, et al require for their hardware to function and throw it on the XB1. You're petitioning the wrong company. Microsoft isn't going to care one whit about players asking for someone else's hardware on their console that they already sell gamepads for, another company is going to have to get their foot in that door before anything has a remote possibility of happening.

If you want to use something better than a gamepad, use a mouse and keyboard. Don't pay attention when people tell you it doesn't work well, it took me a couple hours to get everything down well enough that I was out-piloting most players I came across and I used mouse and keyboard for 7 or 8 months.

Edit: On my couch, so anyone who says that that is also an issue can kiss it.

I seriously doubt doing "Drivers" for the Xbox One is a monumental under taking... Its designed by MS same as Windows... The difference is the xbox has static hardware not ever changing like PC. Also MS provides the tools for developers to create for the xbox... This isnt Sony and the Playstation we are talking about here...

Its a shame one would purposely choose mouse and keyboard over a flight stick or HOTAS when the options are there for a flight sim. Kinda defeats the purpose... If one cannot afford a flight stick or HOTAS that is a different story... But Im not sensing that from the "kiss it" comment

I don't think you understand just how many times you have to waterboard these companies, how many bamboo splinters you have to shove under their fingernails, to get them to update their drivers. X52 owners are still waiting for Saitek to fix their drivers for Windows 10, which released 3 months ago. I think CH has been using the same software GUI since Windows 98, and Thrustmaster just updates their stuff randomly. Sometimes they hit it within days, sometimes years.
