The Smuggling discussion thread

Really not needed, you can smuggle 532 tonnes of goods in a T9 as long as you run silent. Can't see why anyone would bother hauling 500+ tonnes of illegal goods 4 tonnes at a time in a small shuttle..

But it could let that T9 deliver smuggled goods to an outpost. Often time missions are for smaller amounts that don't require anywhere near a full cargo bay.

Well I might not be the best smuggler. With my trade-aconda even in silent running I seem to get pinched. That's why I think this might be a way around it if your primary ship is a larger one and you want to be able to unload contraband in this way from time to time.

It would be fun at any rate ;)

Sounds an interesting proposition. But it gets a bit complicated if you can dock at the space station and change your ship, say. Or log out. What would happen to the mothership in these cases?

I think that's the million credit question there. If they would treat it like they plan to implement planetary landings, you might be able to dismiss your mother ship and call it back at will.

I don't really get this. What power does the authority have over the black market? Isn't that why it's a black market and not just a normal market?

Authority knows about these goods already. Why would someone take a risk at the black market, and buy goods the authority knows about? They even know the specific ship, the landing pad the goods are on. So impossible for anyone at black market to benefit from the situation.

...

At the moment smuggling is ~trading. We could have trading and smuggling -> Now we just have trading, that sucks anyway.

My guess is, just like an srv, you can't dock a "small fighter" at a station.

Probably won't be able to transfer cargo either. You'll have to jettison and scoop. Talk about long and tedious.

Edit Note - Or more likely can't have a docked ship with cargo, just like you can't store one with cargo. I know, silly right?

If you're flying the T7 or 9 you already know that you can't land at outposts that's supposedly the offset of flying a space cow. If you really want to land at an outpost use an Asp or a Python.

As for jettisoning cargo/scooping that would make the trading grind look positively wonderful, I think I'd slit my wrists within 5 minutes max.

As for smuggling to a station that's not an outpost the drill is really simple, line up with slot around 5km out, put 4 pips to shields, approach at 150, when you get to within 1km full speed ahead & also boost through slot, aim towards landing pad & crash land using it as a brake, or if you have docking comp once through slot hit x......that's how I do it & I've never lost a ship crashing into the pad :D

Have we got confirmation that the sidewinder will be launchable? We know the bay can hold a ship its size. If this is the case, you would think it would be possible to launch, scoop and dock since the ship does have cargo.

I've only heard them say Condors and maybe Imperial fighters.

Yeah or just get scanned, get a huge fine and take a week out of that system. I currently have an 8 million bounty from smuggling in a certain system ;-)

Good to know, good to know...say, what do you fly? Do you fly in open? You can tell me. Its not like I'd turn you in and cash the bounty...hahahaha...ahhhh :D

DidierDrbois liked this! :D

It just makes good sense, and adds more "story" elements for the game. Yeah you've got your big honking T9 cow, or Clipper, or Anaconda, but maybe you've been asked to take some secret plans to a distant outpost. Only you can't.

Some of us don't want to swap ships all the time, our ship becomes our home. Therefore the more versatile the ship can be, the more fun we can have with it.

It certainly wouldn't be game breaking in any way. You couldn't easily trade large amounts of anything with a station. Hell, if it's a Condor or an Imp fighter, you might not be able to carry anything. But you could still take on kill contracts or ferry messages.

Totally agreed. How big was my disappointment that I really can't do much smuggling in a Clipper as most of the missions end on an outpost. And I'm sorry, that thing was built for smuggling. One just doesn't do it in a lorry, one does it in a pearl white, ostentatiously loud, Aston Martin!

I see it as an interesting game mechanic and a potential complication (in a good way). After all, unless you have a multiplayer crew, what happens if a CMDR decides to trash your ship while you're running the ferry ;)
