Mini-update

According to Gollancz today, in response to a question that I sent them on Twitter:

@Gollancz Do you have any news on your #elitedangerous books? Are you aiming for a March 2014 launch? I'm looking forward to reading them!

@matthewdbenson All delivered but release date dependent on game release. @marcusgipps (project editor) will have details.

EDIT - update (from Marcus Gipps, editor):

@Gollancz @matthewdbenson all approved by @frontierdev announcement due in about two weeks with names and release dates!

... Which would perhaps indicate that there is a much firmer release date for the actual game too? :D

Ah, interesting news - with more to follow. Will be interesting to see who they have persuaded to write these novels... :)

I very much doubt it. There may be a firmer release date for the Gamma, which is when all the kickstarters will get into the game. But even FD will not have a completely clear idea about how long Gamma will take. They may have a 'far away' (September, for obvious reasons) date in mind, and think they have enough wiggle room to hit that even if they have to do more work than they hope to fix bugs and balance things out.

Thanks for prodding them until they squealed.

Surely they're timing the release for the start of Gamma? Who knows how long it will take to go Gold.

Very interesting. Thanks matt.

I dont think we saw them in the private writer s forum and they are approved so they must have seen the writers resources.

As Drew says, the plot is treacle thick.

I recall Michael saying that they were in close contact - meaning that Frontier's been providing them with all the resources that they need.

But... Peter F. Hamilton? Alastair Reynolds? (the only two contemporary SF authors I read, really.)

Further update:

Ok, so there's a bit more to add (sorry Allen, I had asked for the 'teaser' before you had mentioned that Lave Radio was planning a radio interview with Marcus - I'll stop asking questions now!):

From me:

@marcusgipps @Gollancz @frontierdev Thanks for info! I'm looking forward to reading them! Any chance of a teaser? ;-)

Reply from Marcus:

@matthewdbenson @Gollancz @frontierdev a teaser - technically, there are 4 authors. Will run a 'guess who' pre announcement (with clues)

Yeah we also knew there were four authors. Marcus and I have been talking for a few weeks.
