"The final part of Richard Morgan's fast-moving and brutal fantasy brings Ringil to his final reckoning and sees the world tipping into another war with the dragon folk. And, most terrifying of all, the prophecy of a dark lord come to rule may be coming true very close to home"
But thats for SF novel 3 of 6. I get really annoyed when the lump fantasy in with SF.
Better research than me, so ignore my stuff above.
I had a look on the "to be published" list and that was the only one that looked even hopeful. There is an untitled Greg Bear one too, but that would be too much to hope for, surely?
Just to clear something up - none of the books currently listed on Amazon are any of our Elite books.
One author has talked in public (well, on the internet) about his involvement - but it seems that no-one noticed.
Full details should be in the next Frontier newsletter, all being well.
That Morgan book, by the way,
sounds like fantasy but does actually tie-in with his SF
but, when the book was commissioned and 'titled' (Untitled 3 of 6) we were expecting it to be an SF title, hence the name.
I've sent Allen another little snippet of info this morning, so hopefully he'll be able to have that as an exclusive on the podcast.
There's unlikely to be a physical boxset, to be honest. They're very expensive.
The delay in announcing was partly due to long boring technical conversations between Frontier and ourselves, and partly because, having sorted out who was going to write the books and all of the legal issues, everything had died down a little bit - so we decided to wait and announce when E: D was beginning to ramp up publicity etc.
All of the authors were huge fans of the original game(s), and I think that will show when you read the books! We all went up to Frontier's office last year to meet David, Michael and some others and talk through ideas etc.
I've already spoken to Michael about listing the other Elite books in our editions - Fantastic have come back to me with the full list, but if the other authors also want us to list them in our titles, please drop Michael a line saying yes and giving the full final title & author name.
Sorry for the silence, but I'll be hanging around here for a bit when I can, and will answer any questions I'm able to. I think I've caught most of today's, but shout if I've missed something!
That's all brilliant to hear, Marcus. Especially good to know about the authors being Elite fans Look forward to hearing more on Lave Radio and Frontier's newsletter.
Gotta comb the web for that author reference you mentioned now

Books in the warehouse 4 weeks before publication date
Books ordered 3 weeks before that
Final proofread and corrections locked the week before that (8 weeks before pub date)
Proofreader corrections back three weeks before that, so we can make changes and make sure those changes don't change other things...
Typeset manuscript sent to proofreader 3 weeks before that
Final manuscript sent to typesetter 3 weeks before that.
So you're basically looking at 17 weeks before publication for the final text, although of course changes can be made at any point up to 8 weeks before publication (and god knows we've cut it finer than that a lot of times before). So basically, 4 months.
We generally ask for the author's final draft to be with the editor 12 months before publication, so there's time to edit, redraft, re-edit, copyedit. These books have been a little quicker.
Thanks! It was a fun experience working on a kickstarter - only just coming out of the other end of it, though, there's a lot of data to keep track of - and I only had 540 backers. I'm in awe of how Frontier et al cope with the data... but then, I guess they are big companies and not just me doing it in my spare time...
I really appreciate hearing from you Marcus. Not just because I'm interested in your books, but because of the significance. It was prophesied that Gollancz would speak when it was closer to the release of Elite.
And thus spake Gollancz. The time is almost upon us people! <grin>

Welcome to the forums. I think the above pops my conspiracy bubble. It's nice to hear the Big G is human, and its writers fans of the game.
I appreciate the generosity - the willingness to support the other writers with a mention in your books is very welcome. I'll email Michael, but count me in:
Title: Out of the Darkness
Author: T. James
It's worth noting that Fantastic Books have 4 novels and a compilation in their portfolio. As Gollancz has only 3 novels, if you wanted to even things up I would give any offer you wanted to make due consideration. (I am generous-spirited enough that I will read your authors work, regardless.)

Excellent news on both counts. Very taken by your willingness to list non Gollancz books in your novels.
Any chance of you giving us some clues on the authors identities? Initials? Nick names? Their hair colours? Names of their childhood pets? Their favourite foods? Number of fingers?

I want a nice extrapolation of the lore in Elite, enough so that in a 3-5 year time, we can see a space opera based off Elite! Preferably in some ways incorporating JMS...
I am afraid an Elite movie is going to suck.
Not because it has to, but because that is what Hollywood and it's ilk will do to it.
If the ruling movie industry get its claws into Elite I bet it will be a movie about a lone freighter pilot who will have to save mankind and the universe of certain destruction by the evil Thargoids. In the end the pilot will be the hero and gets the girl.... or some predictable bleep like that.
What I would like is a movie about an average joe who has to make ends meet by hauling freight, gets into conflict with pirates, perhaps tries some smuggling, piracy even, but learns it is not that easy. He could get caught in the power struggle of powerful corporations, or perhaps some political machinations of the Federation and the empire.... or whatever.
But never ever should it be about someone who has to save the universe from evil aliens.
