Braben + Cobra + Docking video

I don't mind the 3PV for outfitting (drones/cams/etc in the bay).

But we need a hyperspace 'sequence' cutscene or render. Spinning ships are hopefully just an alpha placeholder, or there will be fisticuffs!

David Braben said it would be if this artcle can be quoted:

There is, as it stands, a brief pause during hyperspace jumps in lieu of the fancy spacewarping effects still being developed, but in later versions Braben promises this will be seamless.

Nice vid cheers:) was hoping the docking would be harder somehow but we'll see. Maybe that kid was better than he looked for 10min we saw:rolleyes:

Is that gimballed beams in action near the end?

Brilliant, I can't wait to try this myself......Hint! Thanks for posting the video Zeewolf. :)

Yup, I noticed that too. Beam lasers were always a teensy bit gimballed, but from that video, FD seems to have increased their gimballing so they track the target more easily. I hope this wont make them the new goto weapon of choice otherwise we'll be back where we were with the gimballed pulse lasers. *Ducks head for ensuing gimballed weapon debate* ;)

If the answer is "nowhere", then "Why would you bother to buy decals and paintjobs and other vanity items for the exterior of your ship when the game is released, when you can't even see it?"

When avatars are done you'll be able to walk out the ramp, turn around, take a look at your ship, then kick the tyres and complain about dust on your paint work.

Well it should be seamless. No loading screen or cutscene. I like the way it looked in the Damocles trailer.

I know I'm probably being really grumpy but is anyone else ed off we are seeing this stuff third hand?

Not really, we can't complain about them not doing enough PR for ED AND at the same time expect to get everything first hand.

Having "exclusive" content for the media is a huge incentive for them to write articles. If FD puts out everything themselves through Dev Diaries then it still might be written about, but if a magazine/website/show knows they have something truly new on their hands it's more likely they are going to make a big deal out of it.

I fully expect FD to give more exclusives to the press going forward and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Just turn off rotational correction and flight assist then...you'll crash in no time at all!!! :D

Very nice!

And it seems that I have to actually learn to use those side displays now... Never bothered with them before...

One thing that came to mind while watching the docking -

It's gonna be impossible with a mouse. You need to do a slow roll to mathc the station, but rolling via keyboard = max roll speed, and rolling via mouse = you get a yaw too (because mouse controls usually have the 'yaw into roll' assigned on y axis), which will completely offset your trajectory. So.. er. Docking might be a complete pain with a mouse, moreso than normal flying already is.

It's not impossible - that's pretty much how the previous games worked anyway (joysticks back in the 80's had only on/off axis control, so it was always full rotation speed when you rotated). The point is not to rotate continuously, but tap on that keyboard key to stay aligned correctly.

The best video so far I think, it'll be surpassed by alpha tester footage soon though :)

It's stunning and getting more stunning with each feature release. Well done FD!!!!!
