Who owns more than one account (/character)??

Ok, so there's a few things that were "suggested" would make it into the game way back when...one of those was the ability to create multiple in game characters.

This has not materialised yet and I don't follow these forums closely enough to know if this is still on the cards, or has been quashed.

Either way, I wanted another character, so, not being a cash strapped student, I purchased another copy of the game.

Anyone out there done likewise?

On topic: Now I have a dilema.
I bought my original account back in original beta and paid for the "unlimited" future upgrades...which was within my budget back then. Unfortunately, my second account was post release of 1.0.

If I want to upkeep both characters, I now need to fork out for the new season (Horizons), which I've also now paid NZ$71 for.

On top of this an unlimited upgrade "pass" for my second character for future upgrades will cost me NZ$250+ which is strecthing things a bit.

I have NO ISSUES at all with the FD need to bring in cash flow and I also own several paint packs because I both want them and want to support ongoing development of this game.

Idea:
How about FD offer "SIGNIFICANT" discounts for people who have more than one character, OR, introduce the ability to have multiple characters per account as original intended?

Especially those who's external IP addresses are obviously always the same!

Just the one for me. I'm not particularly interested in paying for everything twice just to have a second character available.

(Of course i bought it 5 days before E:D went on sale.. grr!)

I bought a cheap one when they were £20. Its main purpose was as a bank account so I could store ua and other interesting materials. Now that I dont need it for that so much, I might use it as a bgs mission runner for my home system while my main account goes exploring.

Nah, one CMDR is more than enough for me. Even when i went to Sag A* I didn't feel the need for a second slot or anything. I popped into CQC once for a pew-pew, but otherwise was happy bimbling along all alone in the dark for a few weeks.

For 67% off, I would get an extra, but that wouldn't allow the new CMDR to land on planets and take advantage of all the new content coming up. And I'm not willing to pay for the lifetime expansion pass twice. I am really hoping they implement a 2nd or 3rd CMDR. I've always wanted to try to play Ironman style.

I have two life time expansions, one for laptop and one for my rig. Also so I can play with friends when they come over.

I kinda like the idea of being a goodie one day and a pirate the next, having 2 accounts allows me to play one without ganking my rep for the other.

I would be quite happy with just the one CMDR if I had the ability to login at any station where my Anaconda or Clipper or FDL was parked ... and be able to switch between them without travelling hundreds of LY.

I have two, but I was fortunate enough to have a second Backers' boxed set knocking around which I bought at the end of the Kickstarter. The intent was to keep it pristine and unopened, but when the multiple slots never materialised I got FD to activate it. It also comes with the lifetime expansion, so in retrospect was one of the best £90s I could have spent at the time.

You touch on the problem with discounts in the last sentence. In some cases it will be reasonably obvious when it's the same person with the various accounts (same IP, same payment method, maybe the same e-mail domain) but in other cases it may not be so clear.

Just getting FD Support to activate my second boxed set with my choice of CMDR name (that I'd also paid for post-KS) took several attempts, I suspect partly because I'd paid for the boxed set via Kickstarter and for the CMDR name via PayPal. And the e-mail addresses were different of course (albeit on the same domain) because Frontier uses e-mail addresses as unique account identifiers.

So it's a problem of administration. Excessively restrictive criteria for discounts would risk punishing genuine multi-account holders whose details weren't immediately matchable, while an overly generous policy could be gamed.

I'd love multiple character selection from within the game, but there's also the potential for mischief whenever the subject of "free" multiple character slots is raised. Both of my characters are squeaky clean, but we all know the chance to harvest a few tears with a dirt-cheap second commander would be much too tempting for certain types. Would there be enough to cause a problem? Who knows? FD have remained fairly silent on the whole subject. Whether this is for financial reasons, or concerns over griefing or cheating, isn't clear.

Edit: I forgot to mention one feature that I would love to have across multiple accounts - sharing of exclusive skins. My original account has both the Wireframe and Chrome Cobra skins, but obviously I can't use these on my second account. I would happily pay full price again for these skins, but because they were timed exclusives I'm denied that opportunity. If we had multiple in-game CMDRs this wouldn't be the case.

Can't help you with links, but on a stream not too long ago it was one of the questions, and David or someone (Mike?) noted that its still something that might be on the cards at some point. So they acknowledged it was something that has been discussed before. I guess it was a DDF thing.

Yeah, i got around this one easily as I own the domain the original email address was from. Creating a second specifically for a second ED char was trivial. Others may not be so lucky, however, burner accounts aren't hard to create!

Yep. {sigh} whilst I've bought skins on my original account, I need to buy again for the second. Ability to share in game add on features like this across accounts would be very welcome...I doubt I'll be playing a skinned Sidewinder or Eagle very often, ever again! (the new ViperIV and CobraIV...defininitely!

I am seriously thinking about it. I went exploring a few weeks back and of course when I am 12,000 light years way from the bubble, thats when some friends decide they want some help or want to team up hehe.
I am thinking of getting the second account just to set him up as an explorer.

Bought 2nd account, using the same account.
The only thing i found is that you need separate account/email for each commander.

I was thinking exactly the same, until the Black Friday deals kicked in (still available until next week).

I've been thinking about this and, for better or worse, after 4 red wines I thought F'yeah...and sprung for the Horizons pre-order!

I'm still agonising over the lifetime expansion, but cannot bring myself to drop that much money on something that, with my luck (Murphy's Law) may be "fixed" in 1.5.01!

Hmmm....yeah, with only the one account, I doubt too many players would select that option.

Wonder if there's been a poll on how many players play, or have played Ironman mode.
