New Screen for ED

Thinking of getting an Ultra wide screen (Pos 4k as well) and wandered if ED can handle the 3440x1440 resolution of the screen before i get one?

Has anyone got one and currently playing the game?

Frontier were demonstrating Elite in 4K at last year's EGX and then again at the December launch party.

They were using 2 x GTX Titans. The game runs in 4K, so as long as you've got the GPU that can do the heavy lifting, you should be golden.

Just switched to a Dell 27 Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2715Q driven by a GTX 980

Sweet

I highly recommend a 34'' Ultra wide screen. If you can afford it go for Free Syns/G-Sync.
I have a Dell u3415w (Revision A01) and it's a great monitor, add much to the immersion. It's like a windshield.
Here's my setup.
Powered by GTX970 running at 3440x1440 Ultra settings @ 60 FPS. 21:9 works really great with headtracking.

WOW, Nice, thats the exact Monitor i am looking at No Black Friday deals on this, maybe wait until Cyber Monday, but lowest i can get this for is £526. It looks Absolutely Gorgeous.

Thanks Mr Gr3y and to all the others who have answered my question!

Wasn't sure about "curved" but tbh it's great. Don't want to miss it anymore. Only downside is that it's too wide for single window applications, browser and such. But even for working it's great, just allign two windows each half size and you have like two screens in one. Dell's display manager is a nice tool to rearrange multiple windows.

Though about triple 24'' 16:9 this would mean triple power, more pixels and if you're unlucky some driver issues.

Check the revision of the screen once you have it. Revision A00 could have some light bleed/fps glow issues. This could appear when the screen is starting, doesn't display anything and only when the background is really dark. As you see on the pictures no issues when playing E: D. And it won't get any darker than in space. ;)
But I'm sure you won't get any of these anymore.

I have played Elite in 21:9 for a long while now...it really suits the game and works very well with it:

Read some really good reviews (PC Monitors & TFT Central) about the Philips BDM4065UC 4K 3840x2160 40" 16:9, if you have to space on your desk. It hast a great panel, but it isn't curved.
Since it's 16:9 no issues with "old" games that don't support ultra wide and good to work on. Since it is 40'' you can set resolution and ratio to 21:9 - 3840x1648 with small black space top & bottom, should be equal to native 34'' 21:9.

Another question regarding 21:9 res, Will ED have black lines (Blocks) at the top and bottom of the screen or will it fill the whole 21:9 screen?

Mr.Gr3y, i will look into that screen, Thanks

WOW, that Phillips 40" monitor looks the dog dodahs! Have you seen it in Elite? My worry would be bt sitting so close as you do playing elite it might not be 'Pin Sharp' ?certainly made me think!

Sorry, didn't see Elite on it. Don't worry about sitting too close, it's max. 5cm wider than the Dell and the resolution of the Phillips is a bit higher.
Phillips:
3840 x 2160 - 16:9
3840 x 1648 - 21:9 (with black bars top & bottom)
Dell:
3440 x 1440 - 21:9
