Planets grapihics quality leaves a lot to be desired

It is only the beta. The improvements will come for sure
The video is compressed badly, we'll find out on Monday how it really looks.
You're comparing apples with oranges. The commanche screenshot is a closeup of terrain with vegetation. The europa shots are from orbit (or long range if not actually from orbit) of a rocky/icy planet. However, I do agree the surface of Europa is a bit disappointing - I was expecting more following one of the first Horizons videos that featured Europa as from memory it looked better then. Perhaps improvements will come in time for the full release.

I agree that the graphics looks...bland. Boring™ even. But something tells me their engine can't do much more right now. They just ported the game to 64bit to actually give "planet surfaces to the fidelity we[FD] want". Things will, hopefully, come.
Star Citizen on the other hand looks phenomenal, but plays like rubbish.

It also lacks on jagged edges and cliffs, but nevertheless it looks very good (except for up-close view) - so maybe they just didn't figure out yet how to make ice planets look good.
But I agree with you - Europe looks like it's came out of 90s flight sim

It's an ice covered body with no atmosphere to blow the ice about, how much detail do you expect???

In other news I can take screenshots of any other game that will show them in far from their best light, let alone one in active development like this one. Remember also that still frames from any game will tend to highlight deficiencies in rendering. You really need to see things moving to get the best impression of how the graphics really come together (hyperspace is basically just a collection of sprites and particles but looks awesome in motion). To me the two Europa videos looked fine, but we'll get a better impression next week.
I really think people should stop speculating about anything Horizons related. In two days we will know the answers(or some of them) and I would like this experience to be unspoiled.
I think it's just a lack of variation in color and texturing, I'm sure they can finetune this.

As an example <insert your pet peeve about the game here> is simply unacceptable in a game made in 2015. Also <feature unique to ED> is a hundred times worse than it's version in <pretty unrelated game in another genre>.
How can FD go out and advertise this piece of 'software' as worthy of 50 euros is beyond me. FD, be ashamed of yourself.

You forgot "if you don't fix/implement feature X your game could cause serious harm to the health of your players". I am sure I read it somewhere.
The OP is right. But you are too harsh. FD is a small team. ED's sheer size requires a team as big as CIG. And it wouldn't probably even be enough. Also everyone is free to buy the game.

I doubt we'll see improvements before release, but the texture quality on the planets is very much below par, at least in beta (maybe I'm wrong, maybe they will up the textures before release) but i doubt it, my guess is the low textures on the planets are to ensure the game runs well on the XBOX unfortunately.
Like i said recently look how good Alpha looked compared to now, there is a reason for the "removal of fidelity" but FD are very much keeping quiet on the subject.
Also, the stations on planets are a copy-paste of the space stations which seems really cheap (check out the enter hanger scene on Europa)
