Planets grapihics quality leaves a lot to be desired

Thats the second time I see someone mentioning in this thread that resolution doesn't matter when it comes to seeing details. In optics class, I was told different... :rolleyes:

Did they say resolution doesn't matter? No, seriously, did they?

High resolution of a featureless anything still looks just as featureless, so no, resolution is not the only consideration and no one is saying that it isn't one.
 
i've travelled to many airports in the world. I've never seen a copy and paste of two airports. Lame excuse for copy paste in a game. There have been many complaints about little variety in space stations. This was an opportunity to change that.

It would be true if they were hand crafting the stations and surface bases but they write some code, model some assets and they are generated automatically. This is a godsend for a studio FD's size.

They get so much flak for doing something where all the other studios have and still do chicken out by either making the galaxy limited but handcrafted, planets filled to the brim with stuff but miniature sizes... You can suggest any game in the genre with some feature better than ED, and I'll point out exactly what they sacrificed to have that in game instead of doing what they really want like FD does with ED.

Just be honest. ED can either have trillions of 1:1 planets with somewhat automated features and repeating station models or a bunch of fluffed up, small ones that will look a million times more interesting but offer limited gameplay in the long run. This is a compromise FD had to make and many are glad they did.

In the last pic, if you took the grass and nitrogen away, it would look very low poly and crap compared to ED. In that pic it already looks low poly already, as everything looks boxy and unanti-aliasing. so you just proved with your own post that ED is considerably more advanced and detailed looking! what irony.

Can't believe I hadn't seen this before! :eek: The environment is simply amazing. In fact everything looks amazing here, from SRV and ship to the terrain geometry, shadows and lighting, just gorgeous. Posting here in case anyone else missed it.

I reserve judgement until i see it myself, and even then there's plenty of time for improvement. But, i will clamor for higher fidelity after the beta starts, if it is warranted.

Honesty at this point I think people are just being troll or finding the most extremely petty thing to complain about, just for attention and the sake of bitterness.

I'm not complaining, I just add people who complain about petty stuff on my ignore list, its much simpler than trying to bicker back and fourth between people who obviously need to go outside or meet new Friends, they wouldn't be so bitter if they had any Friends or was loved by anybody unless they are just a jerk.
 
yea okay. but have you been to many Walmarts? they are all identical.

You may have me on Walmart but even McDonalds looks different from location to location and Country to Country. If FD puts a walmart in their game I will expect them to look the same at each location. The station, mall etc surrounding them of course should all be different.

In a week we will have all kinds of videos on YouTube of people playing Horizons Beta. We will know then whether it looks good or bad or if it has amazing gameplay or bland. All excuses will end relating to work in progress and it will be revealed to be ugly or the complaints will end because it looks amazing! The reality is we are only 3 or 4 weeks from 2.0 launch so work in progress really should be over unless you are under the gun to release something not really ready for prime time.
 
to me it looks amazing. I really don't see why so many are complaining. They should go check out the terrain detail on Kerbal Space Program and get some perspective here...

EDIT - also anyone who is saying there is only one type of hanger go visit Mars High in Sol, or M. Gorbachev station right above earth...

um detail? that's just a flat plain with a noise modifier, and a ice shader. I could do that in 5 minutes in blender. nothing special.

ED's terrain generation is based on actual science.
 

I find people complaining about complainers to be even more annoying, especially when they belittle and insult other people and their opinions needlessly. Yeah, there are a fair number of ridiculous complaints around here; many of them aren't even about the game. ;)

I'm going to complain about features I've never seen for myself and the entirely logical reuse of game assets because I'm a spoilt child who doesn't understand that gameplay is king.

I hate how Mario has the same blocks in every level. I'm never buying another Nintendo game again. If FD don't do something about this, players will leave the game in droves to play Star Citizen. In their heads.

Did you miss the words "texture detail". The ground in the sneak peek was one colour and totally undefined. Whatever "science" they are using they need to crank up the realism on or level of detail at given viewing distances.

McDonalds looks different from location to location and Country to Country.

McDonald's is the same also, of course there are some exceptions, but most McDonald'S are the same. there are plenty of examples of Cloned facilities, and the bases in the game have more in common with Walmart than an airport, you don't have to buy a ticket to get on your ship, and your ship isn't being boarded by 100's of others, im pretty sure a base is more like a store, or a gas station, those look pretty identical to each other. all the EXXON'S look the same to me.

I honestly think its pretty childish to complain about something so small and pointless.

"boo hoo, this station isn't slightly different than the other, i demand a refund!"

umm ya kinda unreasonable to expect them not to reuse the same model over and over, you cant expect them to make 100,000 different station models, the game file would be enormously huge, and couldn't fit on the modern HDD, much less complete modeling of 100,000 or more of staions in a lifetime
 
Anyway... back on the subject of the thread. It'd be nice if they make the ice worlds look more icy with a bit of translucence and refracted light on and in the surface. Soon™?
