I like hearing about peoples play styles. I'm essentially a 'goody two shoes' so I can't see myself ever pirating. You will find me in Federation space trading, escorting convoys, and hunting pirates.
Good to hear that there are other 'goody two shoes' in this world! I'll add 'exploring' to that list of yours, but otherwise I'll be doing pretty much the same activities. Although I guess I'll hunt pirates only if they attempt to hunt me.

Every single save I have in FE2, and FFE, started out with me maximizing my credits so that I could get into my favorite ship.

I find the fun bit is having to make do with a lesser ship, never having enough cargo space/speed/range, but slowly increasing my funds. When eventually I get my ship of choice it feels like an achievement (cos it was).

Torn between starting as a trader with the extra cash or just starting with the basic ship and 100cr.

I aint no pirate and the extra help at the beginning would be cool - but starting with squat diddly squat is how I have played every Elite game so starting with extras feels like cheeting in a way......

[EDIT - Still having said that, starting in the founder area with a ship of my choice and enough credits to start over if I get my ship blown up is maybe going to be too much temptation. :D[/QUOTE]

I’ve gone for independent trader just for old time’s sake! :)

Part of me is tempted to just go with the default and work my way up to buy a Cobra/Fer De Lance (love that ship :) ) as that would quite a challenge.

Hopefully we can have multiple single player save files and we can try each start.

I picked cobra explorer, though to be honest I spent most of frontier and all of elite in one and fancy something different, but the sidewinder and eagle are a bit small for my taste...so I might chop the cobra in at the first opportunity and get something else
see what happens, as we can have multiple games in offline mode I'll try them all

Ooh the Fer-De-Lance, now THAT is a ship I hope makes a return, along with the Python. (Its not Elite without a Python.) :D

I hope exploring is profitable. While I would enjoy seeing new sights, I would enjoy a rising credit balance more. I'm not really the 'sight-seeing' type. Unless by 'sight-seeing' you mean the innards of an Anaconda! ;)

I'm a little surprised nobody has voted for the Eagle start, what with all of you FE2 fans! Not to mention all the folks who played Imperial exclusively. (Jades, etc. etc.)

I think we might all be advantaged by learning to fly and fight in something small, getting back into the swing of it!

I will eventually do the basic start, but at first I might take on the lonely life of the explorer and see what wonders this new universe has in store!

in the FAQ...
If my pledge tier contains multiple starting options can I choose which one?
Yes, you choose one of the starting options when starting a new game.

does that mean each time i start a new game, or only the first time i start a game?

Think I saw a dev answer that every time you start a new game same starting options will be available. In which case, go for the 90£ tier I think it is as it gives you the most starting options, if thats what you are looking for ;)

Hey OneoftheLost, where have you been hiding? :)
As for you question I am going to go for the Explorer option as I want to explore the new Elite game. Later, I might go for the basic Sidewinder start as building up a basic ship with little money was for me one of the fun parts of the original games.

Does this mean we can have multiple starts and multiple games/lives on the go?

I read it as we just get to choose at the beginning and then we're stuck with it.

What you said might be correct for multiplayer (although at present this in still unclear), certainly though for the single player game, you can have as many starts as you like.

If we only get one start with the main game, then I, for one, will be starting a few times in single player (training) mode before exploring the great expanse...

At least until I have re-learnt how to fly

Thats exactly what I was thinking Abysinth, use the single player game to learn the ins and outs of the game and apply those lessons to the multiplayer game.

I'll be jumping in face first! Who needs to know how to dock? :D

If for some reason you find an Eagle repeatedly crashing into a station, you know its not an NPC! :D

I can't imagine you would only get one start in the multiplayer game. That would kinda make folks highly risk adverse the greater their character gained wealth and elite status etc?

Maybe I'm mis-understanding (wouldn't be the first time ;) )

No...since you can still save game in the multiplayer there is no need to be risk averse..
