This popped on my windows, http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/games...-dollar100-million/ar-BBnym6W?ocid=spartandhp

MSN article on SC 100M funding, and i poker faced at the top professional journalism that goes on. From Derek Small, to CIC. But how does one xD
Ah well, at least they got the name of the game right!

There's a massive media attention on the project funding level, that is also only generating more funding, but it's nice to see some big outlets talking about the actual game, as http://www.theverge.com/2015/12/14/10104670/star-citizen-100-million-crowdfunding
Also odd on CIG's side no chairman note or anything on 100M, it's like it didn't happen... unless they're waiting to the livestream.

So, on the flip side, the Elite Dangerous thread over at CIG has been closed with no explanation. I'd post a link, but only backers have access to seeing it anyway.

There is an upcoming ED release (I think it's scheduled for today) and some people seem to be uncomfortable with it. :)

Anyone with a free RSI account should be able to see it, feel free to link it.

Yep, but they also closed the EVE online, and Descent Underground threads as well.

Hadn't noticed that. For fantas sake CIG don't do themselves any favours on the community management side. Ben was an awful CM and it's looking like DL isn't far behind.

Yeah - I noticed at the weekend I couldn't even post any more on the RSI forum on a thread about a hardware problem, it's been a while since I could see the ED Katamari to be fair. Seems a bit OTT to me, but hey ho.

I was banned form the RSI forum some while ago, perhaps a year, without warning, without explanation, and with no prior infractions ever. Still not sure why, not sure if the ban still stands.

The only thing I can think of is that I moaned about another silly merge into the Elite thread, ruining the conversation, which is the point I'm sure.

Never bothered going back. My Original Backer account has lain dormant since. Sycophants made moderators is never good policy.

Toxicity always flows down from upper management, in every domain. They could stop it whenever they choose. They don't.

Isolating your citizens is important in order to maintain a high level of loyalty and shelter them from dangerous, external ideas.

"We have always been at war with Eastasia"

Have to agree on the general toxicity of the Star Citizen community, or rather how toxic it can appear. I'm sure the vast majority are fine good people, but there are quite a few who are the sort I simply do not want to bother with (none of those are here I might add). It reminds me somewhat of the call of duty community, and the problems it suffers from having too many idiots in their numbers.

Really though, the main reason I do not frequent the CIG forums is because of the volume of posts - I simply cannot keep up.

From the top down, they encourage it. It's becoming a revolting community. As I said, BL was bad enough, DL is worse. Btw they still haven't uttered a word about the closed katamaris.

You can also get banned from RSI for posting elsewhere about SC. That's quite unique, as far as "infractions" go, but may explain why every comment section of an article about SC looks like an "cult". ;)

Get a refund. This should fully restore your freedom of speech. :)

Nor have they said a word about being given 100 million dollars. First crowdfunding project to ever receive such a staggering amount of money and they can't even be bothered to say "Thanks guys, by the way we have a treat lined up for you later on in the week." Why on earth haven't they got an article pre-typed, thank you rewards pre-planned etc.
I honestly can't tell if it's ignorance, incompetence or arrogance.

All of the above is the standard mo for CR and his sycophants.

because its not about the money. primarily they are building a game. all those letters eventually came.. who cares for that anyway?

the man himself still codes and searches bugs and cant be bothered writing letters.

And he is exactly doing the right thing.

the negativity in this forum is telling.

It's not a crowdfunding project. It's a fully operating business selling JPEGs and subscriptions with a fluctuating daily income covering running expenses. For example Apple isn't "crowdfunded" either nor do we sum up how many billions people spent on the iPhone since its introduction, because that makes no sense.

The total sum of is meaningless, because it never existed. The SC Kickstarter (the only audited external source) didn't raise a very notable amount of money, ED raised more. What's interesting is the yearly income, expenses and of course profits. Income is decreasing each year, expenses are kept secret, number of backers are kept secret, sold game packages are kept secret. So in fact we know nothing.

In this case the term "crowdfunding" is just a marketing ploy.

Of course it's about the money, it has always been about the money.
A timely acknowledgement is just the courteous thing to do, it's not an everyday thing that happens by any stretch of the imagination. I think it's right out of order, if someone gave me enough money for 2 million AAA games I would say a bit more than thank you.
What's better for PR? A CEO that is in touch and responds quickly to the milestones reached by people supporting his project or one that doesn't.

He isn't paid to code or bug test: he's the CEO. He is, among other things, the public face of the company. A letter of thanks to the community that just gave him one hundred million dollars - that he could have had written by some intern and just signed it if he really didn't have the time - would be nice.
