Horizons Cobra Mk IV???

Hi All,

Although FDs word choice might have been misleading to some I don't believe their intentions were. Sentences can be taken multiple ways sometimes.

Let's just all have a nice cup of tea and move on :). FD might release it later as a paid ship and as such those who have access to it now still got it for free.

Is it really a big deal people? I hardly think it's worth 3 pages in a thread and multiple threads to boot.

Cheers,

-Todd

what's weird about this is that i now have a Viper MKIV parked at Barnard's star, i've never been to Barnard's star!

That was part of a promise they made at release, that when the last five ships of the planned 30 were added in game, they would give us one for free. So we get a free Viper Mk IV. I wonder if any of the people who remember hearing they get a free Cobra Mk IV were mishearing announcements about the Viper Mk IV, or hearing something secondhand.

So the Cobra Mark IV is unlocked for those of us who pre-purchased Horizons and the lifetime expansion pass.

Do we have to spend the 764K credits now, or can we continue to purchase it anytime in the future?

Does this mean no one else is able to purchase one, or is there some type of rank-up required?

This is correct.

I am sorry but this is yet again a false promise. As per newsletter 49:

Being a Beta backer is the only way you will be able to play Elite: Dangerous until 16th December. In addition to that and the other existing Beta benefits such as Mercenary Edition and automatic permit to visit Sol, today we are also announcing: •25% off in-game ship insurance for life to all our Beta backers
free access to one of the 5 new ships when it’s released!

We were all under the impressions this free access to the ship would be the new cobra. So if this is not the case where is our free ship and when do we get it?

I think it was stated previously that the Free ship for original beta backers would be the Viper MK IV - which some commanders appear to have received. I, however, did not get one (just checked my ships) - despite buying the Mercenary Pack and Beta . . . so I will be raising a ticket.

Can't seem to find the mkIV to buy or otherwise....my understanding is that as long as i owned Elite prior to this launch (Have since it launched) and then bought the expansion at some point before time up (which was not stated) I would be able to pick it up....I got horizons on launch day today, and can't find it anywhere....Viper MKIV showed up dandy...did I just miss out then? that's going to be....incredibly disheartening if so.

newsletter 103

Don’t forget, Commanders who already own Elite Dangerous will also get access to an additional ship in-game, the Cobra MkIV, and are currently eligible for a £10 ($15) loyalty discount which will automatically be applied at the checkout when you buy Elite Dangerous: Horizons:

You get ACCESS to it. Doesn't say you get it free. Atleast not in this example.

It does not mention anything about in-game in that sentence! You cant just add in-game onto the end of it.

Let me try.. "For a limited time all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship through the post as a cardboard cutout"

Nope nothing in the post as yet... :)

"For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. The Cobra Mark IV will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands."

That's the Text the led me to purchase the LTEP so your saying it's doesn't matter that it's misleading, inaccurate and unscrupulous, this is the very reason I capture orders when made to hold companies accountable for what they publish and offer

I have been through all the newsletters. No.86 is the first mention of this: Quote:

"Welcome to Elite Dangerous Newsletter #86.

This week we're back from Gamescom and already preparing for PAX Prime. Read about Gamescom and our announcement of Elite Dangerous: Horizons below, and check out Mike Brookes' Developer Update about update 1.4: CQC.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons is a new season of gameplay expansions for Elite Dangerous, beginning this Holiday season and continuing into 2016, and we have details below in a letter we're republishing from Frontier CEO and founder David Braben.

We'll be talking about Elite Dangerous: Horizons lots in coming weeks and months as we develop the game in preparation for our first gameplay reveal, beta and eventual release. For now, Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available for pre-order, and existing players get a £10 discount and access to the exclusive Cobra Mk IV in-game. Buying Horizons will unlock the full season of content, extending into 2016. Beta access is also available for the entire season of Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansions. and we're also making the Lifetime Expansion Pass available again, granting access to all current and future seasons of Elite Dangerous and all beta tests."

I cannot see anywhere where we have been told we get a free ship

Same Text/reason for me to buy the pre-order. there is no need of discussion. We want the ship we have bought.

Do you have a screenshot of that? Otherwise I'll claim for my Imp Cutter: "For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the Imperial Cutter ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. The Imperial Cutter will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands."

They suck anyway, no biggie.

But yes, you need to buy one. Lots of people got confused with this, not sure how though, it was pretty clearly stated.

If it was so clearly stated as you say, then why has this thread gone 4 pages and rising with a few other threads on the same subject. I myself went on the info in Update #103 which says access. Having read other previous updates/advertising for Horizons in which it did say free, I assumed it was free as well. Something else in regard to the Cobra MkIV offer is that it was never stated that it needed some sort of exclusive buying qualification before. As far as I know it was just one of the new ships added to Horizons and or the 1.5 update. Therefore as I now have to buy it in game it must be that it was never free to begin with therefore why did FD feel a need to add it to the pre buy advertising as a goodie ala the paint jobs and discounts etc?.

Just bought my Cobra MK IV (from Callites if anyone is interested). I'm so excited. Finally I got (almost) all the internals I've always wanted. My previous ship was Diamondback Scout, which I was happy with, but with planetary landings module it's internals got devastatingly small, i didn't have room for cargo in there, even before planetary landings. I wasn't expecting to see one extra small weapon compared to Cobra MK III, but I'm very happy with it. I installed black friday paintjob instantly. And now I'm off to do some exploring/bounty hunting. \o/

I concur. All this stuff about there are loads of other communications suggesting this isn't the case is irrelevant. I went once to the frontier store, what I saw lead me to believe that pre-ordering horizons would be a £10 discount *plus* a ship. I read nothing else on the subject. So while this is a relatively minor point, thinking I was getting more stuff influenced my decision to buy and not wait. That seems dishonest to me, which is a shame.

ok
so this:
"I went once to the frontier store, what I saw lead me to believe that pre-ordering horizons would be a £10 discount *plus* a ship. I read nothing else on the subject. is the same as saying:
"i only read the start of the contract before i signed"

any way..
the wording of the statement made by FD is terrible. and possibly deliberately manipulative?
But in the same paragraph it defines Precisely that the ship would need to be bought with in game credits.
I'm not saying that It was deliberately worded to deceive the lazy readers who would not finish the paragraph, and i'm not saying it wasn't.
All I am saying is that it does say in the same paragraph that you would have to pay for the ship in game.

A debate could ensue about 1 post made in the forum by 1 person, which consisted of 3-4 word which does seem to say "yes you do get the ship free"
But that does not constitute a contract, and could easily be argued that they mean that you did not have to pay real money for it, and only in game currency.

I think the best idea in future would be to screen shot and cache a description web page, and fully read it.
share the picture on the forums here and else where with people replying to the post to confirm it is an accurate copy.

And then If later you find that you did not get what was expected. you can fully read the description from the cached page and check to see if changes were made to the store page.
The latter would be bait and switch which is illegal.
But if you just didn't comprehend the wording or did not fully read it then there is nothing that can be done about that.
