They have rock formations that look more real than the simple height map that we get in horizons. They still need to work in some areas, but damn, this game is turning out to be the most promising again.

Why is everyone so exited, they didn't show anything remarkable, nothing really difficult, just very generic PG with ridiculous physics (or the lack of any physics).

What?? You cannot be serious!?

Planetary landing tech looks cool. The scale is out of whack though.

The timing to coincide with Horizons release is a totally classless move by Chris. Lost some respect for him for for that one.

Yeah...totally generic. Completely uninspiring. Heck, Derek Smart probably has better tech in Line of Defense.

Actually it is quite a good move from CIG (or classless as stated above). Their procedural generation is very basic but has the feature who lack in elite : the WAhuu effect. CIG put an atmosphere on the rocky planete, and like Infinity, it looks better than in Elite. Plus, this atmosphere can hide a lot of thing. It is the advantages of going full unrealistic, you can fake beauty. And this is not possible in Elite. Still a tech demo though....

Well, i never expected this. But i'm glad PG Planets are happening, it means it's not going to be a "Cryengine Map" you load in to play, and we can get something on a more real scale and simulation.

PG for not only that, land-able areas, space stations and everything else is a perfect mix of Hand-Crafted Content with PG, that seems to be their focus. Atmospheric flight is to be a thing after all.

This shows the Potential of Star Citizen, you can go around find all possible negatives to talk about, but this is amazing.

It still makes me sad to see people go crazy on such cheap eye candy tricks and even disregarding the real achievement in the process.

So are you calling Elite Dangerous a basic game? If procedural generation tech is so easy and basic to do?

This was a tech demo, that is clear, but the tech is already there, from now on, it shows what to expect on the future.

By the looks of what Croberts likes to show us, we're expecting more tech demos which will one day combine to form Voltron.
Oh, please! PG != PG.

What got me is when they said it took them a few days to setup the demo they just shown. The tech is clearly there, the generation, the necessary streaming on demand (one PC could not process the whole thing at once), as well spawning objects on it, atmosphere (not much realistic there bit yeah it's a tech demo) on this case the place he lands one was taken from the Nyx land-able area.

It really hinted me back at the Infinity Battlescape PG tech as well, only ofc they had 10 years on work on theirs.

I think this all is just the typical CR fallacy. Instead of focusing on a handful of gameplay mechanics, he just adds more and more and more superficial, cheap, but shiny GFX stuff. We have crap FM, crap FPS, no eco, crap missions, miniature stellar objects, glitches everywhere, awful animation, and now: cheap planetary PG marbles with the megabloom. But everyone goes yeah and throws more money at the wizard.

I thought the entry and approach looked good, the scale was a bit weird and it was kind of spoilt by the terrible hangar landing. A good idea of what they're going for though.

Yeah, they're likely posting the normal "press" version on YT soon. But i like this idea. Of course no idea how will this apply to places like the Arccorp planet, as that supposed to be a massively populated planet.

But to places like massive asteroids where some of the Hangars will be put in, or actual planets that just spawn some objects on it like Elite, it can add layer of gameplay to it.

I didn't like the entry at all. No way you can enter an atmosphere with that speed from some random direction by applying some vert. thrust. If there is an atmosphere i want to see a proper atmospheric entry. Doing it like they it should have been a gigantic ball of fire.
