The (argh!) that just doesn't make any sense thread.

I know that smarty pants. It's more the case you expressly say you want to do something illegal. It's like walking into a pub and shouting "I HAVE A STOLEN TV TO SELL".
Or you know, contacting the shady fence standing where everyone knows he really is and what he is but he's overlooked by cops and telling him you have something to sell and he checks it out....just saying.

I can manually create and restock ammunition via synthesis, but I cannot buy bulk ammunition from the market and manually restock it, argh that just doesn't make any sense!

Insane ranking is needed to purchase faction ships, yet factions have no problems with you aiding the enemy or attacking their own ships with the very weapons they provided, argh that just doesn't make any sense!

For every small incongruence, the game in turn, gets many things bang-on. For example, the logic for pirate stations with those rotating holographic skulls is sound and the real world bears this out..don't know about where you live..but in my city, that big neon syringe on the roofs of drug dealers' houses sure makes finding them a lot easier than before!

When you have stocked up on a dozen or so missions. Then every single time you leave a USS or CZ all of a sudden a huge number of ships all jump in around you to dissuade you from your current missions.

"You're a hard one to track down commander"
"You're a hard one to track down commander"
"You're a hard one to track down commander"
"You're a hard one to track down commander"
"You're a hard one to track down commander"
etc.

Well obviously not that hard to track down as a dozen of you manage to track me down constantly /sigh

I go ''spy'' on a federal base in alliance space , kill all the drones scan all the data and I get : Data points to be sold to the feds...
so thats like If I went to spy on russia and then gave my spy data to the russian goverment...
however it must be a bug but it still killed my immersion for a moment

I saw not a single one when I did Sag A back in August/September time so at least back then it was fixed.

A month or so ago I took a jaunt out past the horses head. I wasn't interdicted but any USS I looked in on had pirates in a wing.... Just hanging out? 2k lys from anywhere? Waiting to trap a random explorer every 80 yrs or so? Hmm.... Not sure about that one..

Things that don't make sense

Spaceflight faster than the speed of light
weapons exciting atoms to show lights when there is nothing to excite against
flight mechanics
Hyperspace
Supercruise
aerodynamic space ships
.
Oh hang on that's the whole basis of it
.
Maybe that's because its A GAME not a simulator

Hey! Stop doing science on my fun! :p

Stolen Illegal goods are still marked down for being stolen despite already being very illegal. What, are they worried the slaves might some how be MORE illegal due to the fact one slaver took it from another.

STOLEN illegal goods are illegal EVERYWHERE except anarchy systems, ILLEGAL goods are only illegal in certain jurisdictions.

- - - - - Additional Content Posted / Auto Merge - - - - -

1000 LY away from any station... find wrecked salvage... theres a federal service ship there. He scans you and fines you because you had salvage on you.

There is legal and illegal salvage.

Can scan an entire star system and find every planet and asteroid there. Can't detect material containing rock 200meters away.

Huge difference in mass even between the smallest asteroid and a 1t cargo container

Good list - saved me from writing a load of stuff. Thanks. :)

SRVs that have shields, which require nuclear power plants, but don't have unlimited drive.

Skimmers that have unlimited fuel. (can I have one?)

Stations freaking ages away from jump points don't pay extra for goods to attract traders.

We always survive ship destruction.

Exploration data isn't backed up into the escape pod.

Exploration data doesn't update the general map for other players.

Laser beams just stop at their listed range.

The cops don't shut down black markets, even though every one knows where they are

NPCs spawn based on player activities, when the galaxy is supposed to be living and breathing and doing its own thing.

Black holes 5 Ls from stars don't cause stars to change shape.

The pilot is invincible to weapons, even with no shields and canopy blown out

The HUD is projected by your suit, yet disappears when the canopy blows

We can't fly to other systems via super cruise

Why would an NPC miner go to a resource extraction point when they're all crawling with pirates?

How do NPCs get to RES and CZ? I don't see a steady stream of them in supercruise.

Why are there so many ships in USS all over the system? Wherever I go, there's one in front of me. Why don't these guys jump to supercruise and get to where they want?

Why do NPCs hang around nav points? Why even drop out of supercruise?

Why do we have nav beacons? Explorers don't use them, and travel fine.

Why does 1 t of gold take up the same space as 1 t of food?

Why can't the insurance excess be paid a few days after notifying your intention to make a claim?

How does the insurance company make money when we don't pay premiums?

Why don't we see red and blue shift at relativistic speeds? How can we see at all when travelling at over 1 c?

Why are all orbits circular?

Where are the comets?

Why do asteroid belts only have 5 rocks?

Where is the accretion disk around black holes?

Why haven't we found thargoids yet?

I am going to optimistically call Place-holder on these. No way can they be working as intended.

You take on a covert smuggling mission, plot a cunningly obscure route to your destination aaaand there they are. At every turn. They have perfect intel on your movements but we have none on theirs.

1000 LY away from any station... strong signal source.... squadron of 3 pirates
1000 LY away from any station... find wrecked salvage... theres a federal service ship there. He scans you and fines you because you had salvage on you.
Can scan an entire star system and find every planet and asteroid there. Can't detect material containing rock 200meters away.

Analogy time: Use a telescope to find planets but a microscope to find contents of pebble.

Now to tackle the biggy...

SRVs that have shields, which require nuclear power plants, but don't have unlimited drive. - HL3 Confirmed?

Skimmers that have unlimited fuel. (can I have one?) - Duracell/Tesla type batteries, the invoice for you're ship should say batteries not included.

Stations freaking ages away from jump points don't pay extra for goods to attract traders. - You get free cookies and milk plus the chance to buy the stuff they make

We always survive ship destruction. - Ejection pods are made by Bernie Eccleston Incorporated based on an old technology used in racing cars - Bernie still heads the company.

Exploration data isn't backed up into the escape pod. - No but you're MP3's are!

Exploration data doesn't update the general map for other players. - Universal Cartographic's are not a charity, profit is everything! (You can buy the data for some systems)

Laser beams just stop at their listed range. - Working as intended it seems. Call it a safety feature so you're shots don't kill a child on a planet 53LY away.

The cops don't shut down black markets, even though every one knows where they are - They get paid a good backhander plus they'd be out of a job if all crime stopped

NPCs spawn based on player activities, when the galaxy is supposed to be living and breathing and doing its own thing. - Man juggles in the street, crowd forms. Game simulates real life! (Marketing needs to pick up on this one!)

Black holes 5 Ls from stars don't cause stars to change shape. - Nobody likes it when they're partner lets themselves go so the stars go to the gym and work out.

The pilot is invincible to weapons, even with no shields and canopy blown out - You are ubber l337!

The HUD is projected by your suit, yet disappears when the canopy blows - Stupid AMD/Nvidia drivers, nothing to do with FD!

We can't fly to other systems via super cruise - Global warming!

Why would an NPC miner go to a resource extraction point when they're all crawling with pirates? - Bounties?

How do NPCs get to RES and CZ? I don't see a steady stream of them in supercruise. - Are you admitting to stalking the NPC's? Isn't that griefing? :D

Why are there so many ships in USS all over the system? Wherever I go, there's one in front of me. Why don't these guys jump to supercruise and get to where they want? - Smoke break, brb...

Why do NPCs hang around nav points? Why even drop out of supercruise? - To see which human pilots are being stupid and hanging around in Nav points!

Why do we have nav beacons? Explorers don't use them, and travel fine. - Truckers are not know for being the brightest of folks... :D

Why does 1 t of gold take up the same space as 1 t of food? - Chocolate gold coins!

Why can't the insurance excess be paid a few days after notifying your intention to make a claim? - Maybe if you stopped buying second hand chop shop right-offs they would let you.

How does the insurance company make money when we don't pay premiums? - Best not to ask to many questions, you like you're kneecaps to work, right?

Why don't we see red and blue shift at relativistic speeds? How can we see at all when travelling at over 1 c? - Science!

Why are all orbits circular? - This is a good question!

Where are the comets? - Having a meeting to discuss the above mystery.

Why do asteroid belts only have 5 rocks? - Why do Monkey's fling poop?

Where is the accretion disk around black holes? - Chairing a meeting of Comets

Why haven't we found thargoids yet? - They are all playing CQC.

  • Multi-ton docking computers like something from Bletchley Park
  • Gutamaya, Saud Kruger, Core and Lakon all use the same damn joystick
  • Everybody communicates by text, but there's no keyboard to be seen
  • Cargo is loaded and unloaded instantly
  • No evidence of a kitchen on any of the ships
  • Final moments are spent listening to Verity banging on about a nonexistent eject function
  • Laissez-faire traffic control ("just go for it whenever mate, but if you ding another ship we will kill you")
  • Planetary bases are less navigable than Swindon
  • 40 ton cargo containers all over the shop, cranes to move them, and not a single vehicle that can load them
  • Miraculous anti-ageing technology, unless you're Zemina Torval
  • Suicidewinders
  • Achenar is too round
  • Twenty-five minutes is the largest oxygen supply anyone has ever seen. Major Tim would not be happy.
  • Ammo belts apparently un-invented sometime in the third millennium
  • You can carry eight hundred tons of fish, but only four heatsinks per launcher
  • Mail-order went the same way as ammo belts
  • No evidence of a toilet on any of the ships

NAV beacons! Why, why, why are they there? what purpose do they serve and why do NPC's hang around there to get blasted?

But more importantly, missions. Good lord do these need work. Don't get me wrong, they've improved but they're still a mess. For example, I pick up a multi part mission that requires me to find five superconductors for a station...ok, I do that and the next part asks me to pick up five performance enhancers for another station...ok, done. Last part asks me again to bring another five superconductors to the first station! AGH, why?!?!? Why didn't you ask for ten in the first place?!?!?! It's so arbitrary! Why can't there be a mission that just says "hey, I'm a broker for the the station you're in and I need you to find me 5 of X, 6 of Y, and 4 of Z for a project we're working on here". It would make more sense and I'd feel like I actually did something for the mission faction and station as opposed to running around aimlessly looking for random unconnected items for random stations.

Rant done. Still love this game.

- Civil war in a 2k population system. Endless swarms of expensive military plated ships getting blown up.
- Low security, 10k population system. At the RES, there's full wings of pirate and police anacondas duking it out.
- 1k population system, 1.2k tons of slaves available for sale.

LOOK! 8 BILLION people live on that plant below me WOW.....

Huummph .. Just one lousy space station to funnel all the traffic through. NO orbital shipyards NO orbital factories No communication or weather satellites Nothing in space at all except that one Lousy space station and it's EXACTLY the same design as the last 200 space stations that I've docked at ??? What The What!!!!

Well guess I'd better dock, my hold has 728 tons of gold in it . I've just got to remember not to hover for more than 30 seconds where I'm not supposed too or they will vaporize my 200 million credit ship and 7 million credit cargo (Ya Ya thats make good sense , makes a nice "Welcome Back" for Traders) .

These guys really seem to like gold... this will make about 10,000 tons I've shipped here today. Funny they don't seem to have any way process/handle/use it/send it to the planet ---nothing---. Maybe they just like to horde it... Ya Ya that makes good sense..

Oh, and when I find the guy that designed these stations and only put ONE door in them I'm gonna VENT HIS ASP TOO SPACE!

Checked my ship and indeed no keybard.
Could have sworn it was there before.
Seems that this is just one of the things that was in place and got cut out from the release.
