Landed 5000 LY away from bubble to take this screenshot

During landing managed to break the canopy ...

Oh well, I will get to Sagittarius next time

Well, I'll hazard a guess: you tried to land window-first...?

You had 107 seconds to realize you may have had an AFM on board... and even synthesis materials to refill said AFM

Look on the bright side: You can now breathe in the wonder first-hand, without the stupid glass in the way!

Have some rep for the rare image :p
On a side note. It would be interesting to know whether any fuel rats would be up for a long excursion. Certainly you have enough oxygen to re-enter orbit (just). If there could be an Anaconda waiting it might just be enough.

Thanks for condolences!

No, I did not land window-first :D
I had 7 minutes to realize I had 2 AFMU units but they did not work on blown canopy. Apparently only cracked canopy can be fixed and that really does make sense.

And I did not take SRV as it was making my jumps shorter.
In retrospect, that might have allowed me to return, as I have seen from other CMDRs reports that hoping into SRV and sending ship onto orbit and back resets oxygen time countdown.
Even then it would be slim chance of getting back as that would give me 7 minutes every time - might not be enough to get to next system with 'land-able' planets as sometimes I have jumped several systems before encountering any suitable planet to land.

Lesson learned - must ... resist ... landing ... on ... high ... G ... planets. (or learn to do it properly)

Never did understand how a 747 can have oxygen masks tied to a centralized respiration system....

..but a ship in ED doesn't have a single port connecting a mask to the oxygen system.

Or utilizing ED emergency mask technology, creating a film mask that replaces a broken canopy window when it breaks / shatters. There should be plenty of fail safes to prevent death or allow the continued production of oxygen from the ship.

Seems like a weak fail-state mechanic to me.

We have all of those things. That's what RemLok is.
Your helmet and suit provide you with emergency environmental conditions, not just oxygen. You are in the vacuum of space. You need heating, pressure, cooling, and something to breathe.
There is only a limited availability of resources so that's why there's a timer. If you pay for more resources you get a longer time.
Can't have a film over a broken canopy for the same reason, but even more so, that we don't fix the windows on jet aircraft with clingfilm.
