I hope I'll be able to get an old oculus rift dev kit for cheap now. I only want to code some HRTF with head tracking tests on it.

Heh, looks like I'm just barely in second place so far:

After skipping the original version, and not managing to get a go at Fanfest last year, there was no way I was missing out this time...and if the new dev version isn't out until July I guessed a good few more months before they release the consumer version.

Fingers crossed we're all in the first batch in July! :)

So have you got one or are you getting one?

I've ummed and arrred about getting the Dev kit 2, but have maybe unwisely decided to hold off for the consumer model.

Waiting for the consumer version as I'm not a developer. Whether I'll get it of course depends on whether I get Candy Crush invitations in my face or not while wearing the Rift.

Had a 1 (sold it for a decent profit just before 2 was announced), got a 2 on order (but swithering about cancelling that because CV1 may be that much nearer, and better, than we thought), and will almost certainly be getting a CV1, unless something better comes out in the meantime... which almost certainly won't happen.

I was sceptical about the Rift until I saw a Steam Dev Diary:

Basic idea is that even though your fleshy meatsack is in the real and boring world, VR techniques can fool your mind into thinking it has "Presence" is the virtual world. So you get vertigo when standing on a cliff ledge, you automatically duck to avoid something thrown at you.

When they can overcome the challenges that relate to Presence, VR will be a real game changer. And they will overcome them. Maybe not for the first consumer version, but in 5 years the tech will have matured to the point of being... scary.

Moved to the Hardware section.

I've pre ordered the DK2 and will probably put it on Ebay when the CV1 is imminent.

the only reason i can think of for any gamer not buying at least the consumer version of the OR is lack of cash, it takes gaming to a whole new level and is fast going to become the normal way of playing.

Oh well, short lived poll, not many people look here.

You'd be surprised, the OR discussion thread here in the HW section has 400 replies and nearly 20k views.

But there is a reason we have created a hardware section (among others). It helps keep sections on topic and so if someone is looking for a particular discussion they have a better idea on where to look instead of trying to search multiple section of unrelated topics.

I also left a expiring redirect so people in the Elite Dangerous discussion area can see your thread and if they wish follow it.

It will be interesting if more than one can be used at a time on a system for co-op/ MP games.

Users would look a bit like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSWKBVkqLJc:D

I didn't place a vote. A bit concerned about the FB news.

Will definitely be getting some kind of VR goggles for Elite, when different consumer versions become available.

Because there are so many different styles of games I doubt this will be the case. It works best with first person view games and can be used with third person ones but is not as effective. OR chess? A side scrolling beat-em-up?

Personally I'm not sure... I was going to get DK2, but with Facebook sticking it's nose in it may well be a waste of time.

Since FD still won't comment on if they'll support FreeTrack, I may be forced to get TrackIR... I wan't head tracking damnit!!
