Thanks for ruining smuggling missions!

I had two pretty funny interdiction incidents last night. Was in a Condie, headed from Aditi, carrying a mix of illicit stuff, some ~300t. One of my missions was a scan-to-fail.
_
First, a security Viper. Submit, boost at admittedly snail-pace ~240. They managed to complete the scan, apparently found that I was all-clean (!) and jumped off.
_
Shortly afterwards, a lone pirate in a Diamondback Explorer (yeah :D). After a few seconds he's on 20% hull, a Courier jumps in. They're suddenly in a 2/2 wing. Moments later, another Courier pops in and I'm, inexplicably, fighting a 3/3 wing. Needless to say, their no-heat infinite-ammo railguns gave my 5C Bi-weave a proper beating.
_
Yeah. Just wondering if all this mouth-watering 'new content' still takes priority over fixing this mess?

There are a few options to throw security off your tail. In an Anarchy, just shoot and kill, no scan, no fine, no pursuit. In a system with a jurisdiction that would fine you for attacking security, (dual)chaff, heatsink, boost, jump. Then drop from supercruise immediately again, that should lose them. If they follow you to a station/outpost, immediately reenter SC, then do a 180 and drop out again, security gone.

Repped for having nailed it.

I like the interdictions, makes me feel like I'm playing a game and I like that fear factor when I hear the sound of railguns killing my shields way too quick by some Elite NPC.

I have done a few of these do not scanned missions and have only been interdicted once. Went silent and boosted away as well as popping a chaff and heat sink. Not had the issues others are having.

Are the ones having lots of issues aligned in power play and in a territory? I am aligned but well outside power play space.

thats the thing, he will interdicted you again when you jump to supercruise. npc is so fast it doesnt use the same ammount of time we take to engage frameshift.

Boosting passed the SA is a bad idea as the only way they should be able to scan if youre silent running is if youre within 400 metres. I now do not use chaff, engage silent running before you drop from Supercruise and get out of dodge in a hurry.

Likewise the best way to drop the gaggle of followers especially in a delivery system is to hug the sun till they burn.

There will often be a SA waiting near the delivery and the only way to drop them is to let them interdict. Again enable silent running before you drop.

Keep a stack of heatsinks to hand so you dont burn.

i posted a bug report with video on the nonsense shadow mission killer scans yesterday.

With the cobra you wont see see a mission to carry 144 slaves but they are there, and you have to use bigger ships meaning you wont have the same acceleration and speed of a cobra, also meaning you will get scanned 100% of the times.
Also if you dont have a next jump you will be constantly interdicted until reach the station or you win the mini-game.
Again i find the mini game more difficult to do in bigger ships, before the horizons i used to win some of them and loose other like 50-50. and now its more like 10-90.

Hey maybe it's my skill, its degrading, but i don't feel like it is, but its my opinion.

You are always at least one time interdicted while doing these types of missions. Randomness should happen and its not happening.

Obviosuly I will and do see those missions but they are 'unavailable' to me due to the cargo space, no denying that...

I also fly a python a lot lately.. and have gotten used to throwing it around a lot too... I tend to evade most interdiction attempts on me in most ships I fly even the T6 (I also did a lot of testing of the interdiction mechanic back when 1.4 went live as I did not participate in the 1.4 beta), not winning all of them but most of them for sure, from Authority and NPC pirates etc when I choose to try and evade them....

I like the new 'do not get scanned' missions, they add an air of excitement to the whole smuggling operation that otherwise used to feel like I was just trading illicit goods, not actually trying to avoid getting caught... It used to be that the fines / bounty for smuggling was nothing compared to the reward for doing the missions so often profit was to be had, with the new type however, there is a real element of risking not making any money if you get 'caught' which I find very very refreshing....

I have had NPC's and pirates drop out on me at outposts as well and have (thus far) been successful in getting to dock without being scanned and then completing the mission after entering the hanger...

For me, I would say that with evading the interdictions, especially in my python and defintiely in the cobra, its probably above 75% success... probably actually above 80%...

When I am on pirate hunting duties... of course I submit and kill them, but when I am smuggling, if I do not think I can win, I submit and either boost like a banshee or just take them out depending on my mood and the ship I am in... no matter if its authority or a pirate and no matter even if its in a jurisdiction, once you fire on them, they won't scan you, you just have to either kill them and bug out or shoot at them and bug out after the FSD cools down before their reinforcements arrive...

I am an assassin mostly in game so I care less about bounties on my head or reputation with minor factions that are not my home faction or with either the empire or alliance as I am allied to the feds... I use that mindset to my advantage when I engage in smuggling missions... sometimes its easier and quicker just to kill the coppers than worry about fighting them... and even if you are WANTED AND HOSTILE to all of the systems factions you can ALWAYS dock at a station or ourpost (just do NOT get scanned by a stations authority vessels or breach the laws while in a station or outposts no fire zone.

There can be problems for some people with evading interdictions due to real world connection issues (lag) and the instance server's physical location...

It's not the scans that bother me too terribly its the scripted interdictions that have me so frustrated I can't even play. The NPCs have an instant cool down on FSD. I've boosted past them jumped to super cruise and immediately been interdicted again by the same NPC. I had system security track me down to the middle of nowhere, a completely unexplored system that was on the way to a startport for a smuggling mission. In the 20 minutes I tried to travel I was interdicted and they attempted to scan me over 9 times and I can't even FSD out currently without inderdiction. And the worst part is its nigh impossible to escape inderdiction anymore no matter the vessel it seems I'm flying a brick while they inderdict me with a corvette. I even dropped the mission out of frustration and it's still happening. I have no idea how to make it stop. No matter what I can't escape the interdictions, can't avoid scans... I like how NPCs are smarter but this isn't smarter it's cheating. Until that's fixed I'm done even trying to smuggle. Time to trade grind.

I did a lot of smuggling missions and it's fine.
If an authority tries to scan you, shot it, he will abort the scan and attack you and mission doesn't fail :)

And how many missions did you stack and how did you stack them and are you pledged to a power in powerplay??

Seriously 9 authority attempts to interdict and scan you suggests to me you had a heap of missions stacked up...

Not sure what the big deal is, personally. I tend to stack around 8 to 10 shadow delivery missions at a time, and I almost never get scanned. Interdictions aren't too frequent, and I can often evade them. Outposts are where you really have to be careful.

You would think but no just the one. 5t of slaves in my asp explorer, since this happened my game has continued to interdict me at every turn I can't even get to dock the kicker is I dropped all missions and cargo and it's still happening im beginning to suspect foul play on behalf of sys authorities...

I'm pledged to aisling duval and was in imperial space I jumped to unknown space and then boom the game won't leave me alone now. I'm in an asp explorer and Ive dropped it all only had one mission and I am getting hammered. I'm no idiot by any means and I can and have evaded interdiction many times but the last 24 hours has been a nightmare.

I have no idea how to make it stop.

Get better at escaping interdictions, and then escape the interdictions. If you do, that NPC stops chasing you forever. (And really what it means is that you don't get bothered again by any other NPCs about the mission that NPC spawned for.)

FWIW, it sounds like you might benefit from spending some time watching a youtube tutorial or two on smuggling in 2.0. There are very simple ways to avoid the vast majority of these headaches. To the point where smuggling is likely going to be nerfed unless they decide to put in the effort to fix the loopholes.

I took another try. I got a python pepared for silent running and:
1. interdiction - unable to win, ok, so i submitted. It was authority interdiction
2. after drop from warp i turned ON silent running, then boost, deploy heatsink/chaff
3. authority viper was about 1,8km from me...after cooldown time i started charging fsd
4. i was scanned :D

I made a half way from robigo to bubble, and all missions failure. What is a nonsense here?
1. NPC are playing by different rules in game. When you are in silent running after 800m your enemy will loose a lock so he cannot scan You. I was at larger distance.
2. Authority was in the middle of nowhere.
3. All mission failed. How does authority know what is smuggled? Packages are labeled 'smuggled commodity' :)
And if authority scann me, and yes, i have illegal cargo, then what? I should get a fine, and nothing if i succesfully escape. Thats how it should works by a logic.

And no, there is no fun at all. Lost of time, nothing more. There is no sense to doing smuggling missions in current mechanics.

i wonder how i manage to do these missions then..

All i can say is if you cant smuggle get a new job. i can still smuggle and so can others.
the ones that cant smuggle probably should become traders?

It shouldn't have ever been any one can be a successful smuggler. (although any one still can) because thats not realistic is it. or every one would be smugglers irl too..

Any way if you really want to be a smuggler get the right equipment.
and silent running is 100% pointless when they already know where you are.

Its a bit like some one walks in to a room says "hey you standing there" And then you jump behind a seat, and then you are surprised that they still know you are there.

im now tired of telling people what they are doing wrong. so i advise they just re read through the posts..
But Failing that get a different job..

smuggling works fine, it works for me. its not 100% success rate It should never have been 100% but it is at least 80% success rate. if it does not work for you then its not what you should do.

Neither chaff or silent running stop active scans. Once they start, the only options are to break line of sight, force the NPC to cycle hardpoints (you can often trigger this by cycling yours) and running.

Smuggling is tricky in Python because most people can run faster than it can. As much as this is the only option for the medium pad long range missions, don't bother smuggling in it. You will be chased by eagles and vipers and their top cruising speed is close to pythons boost speed.

Smuggle in a fast ship; stick to trading in a generalist like Python. It will just lead to frustration otherwise. Asp is a good LR smuggling ship.

Note: the smuggling missions are small cargo, typically < 20 tons. The long range trade missions are the large amounts and are pointless if you are grinding rank. Taking a bunch of both is a recipie for sadness.

silent running should make unlock after 800m. And in the consequence break a scan.
This is not about being in the room, you just need to have a locked target, independently you see target or not. You can see, you can follow, and you can Lock on from 400m if target is using silent running, and after 800m your computer will unlock target and scanner will just not simply work.
Thats how scanner works.

It have doesnt matter of speed or ship. I made it in asp, sometimes i escaped, sometimes not. Even in with IC 440 boost you can get a scan from few kilometers.
Rules should be the same for NPC and player. NPC have unlimited range scanners, they dont care silent running. So i dont care smuggling missions, and after few similar lack of logic examples i will dont care to playing this game :) Thats how it works.
Game should have the same rules for all. I am not bad for a scans, i am bad for a lack of logic and inconsistent rules.
