Wouldn't it be cool if every time you shot another CMDR' ship out of the sky the dropped the corresponding escape pod,

example- i just finished fighting CMDR FartSparkle
(made up name) his ships blows up, and among the wreckage is and escape pod with the designation
"Escape Pod CMDR FartSparkle", i could sell this , as a slave on the black market or keep it as a trophy ,

side note. we could apply this to all the NPCs

idk, its just thought, while i was watching game of thrones

How would that actually work though? Would the CMDRs account be locked out somehow?

I remember in Elite '84 you could destroy or capture the escape capsule after it was ejected from the NPC ship. Rather ruthless IMHO

it would be more of a trophy, and would have nothing to do with the account of the other CMDR

How can he be in his escape capsule (even multiple one, when he's killed more than once) and somewhere else at the same time? Sure there are plenty of inconsistencies in the game, but we shouldn't deliberately add more :)

1st of, its a game

2nd. i never really said they had to be in the escape pods ;) its just their escape pod with their name on it
aka trophies

its a working idea,=P

So you mean, you fight a guy and win, and then pick up the pod.

To get to keep the pod as a trophy would mean, you let him out, wined and dined him then sent him on his merry way in the last station he'd launched from.

I like the idea. Selling as slave thing I don't like because it doesn't fit with the respawn mechanics and would be as immersion breaking as nature calling in the middle of a smuggling run.

jeez guys, give the OP a break. like he said, it's a game, and it would make a hell of a lot more sense than commanders magically reincarnating themselves back at the last station they happened to visit.

couldn't of said it better my self

The main point of this tread is...

Yeah! I kill some cmdr. Wow.. I am so cool. Wait.. Someone have to know that! If not, than i am not cool :/
So.. How whould i say that actually? Oh yea! I have a idea. And i have to use name of cmdr that i kill like.. twice, so everybody will see i am badass. And so it's start.

:D

And answer is - no. It will never be like this. Cause it's a bad thing for the entire conception of this game. And this game is barely about PvP. It's not EVE.

I think, the real desire behind this proposal is to create a sort of 'history' of your commander; a documentation of what you experienced in the game, the introduction of "souvenirs" to hook your memories on. I agree with this idea. There are multiple possibilities, imo:

- The OP's escape-pod idea. I like the gameplay aspect (you have to scoop up the pod in order to recieve your trophy). However, the question is, how to store it. I don't think, anybody would want to keep it in the cargo bay, only for sentimental reasons. Maybe you could keep the "rescue-bagde" and nail it to the ships wall in your mess room? This would require walkable ships or even a personal home-base, though.

- A more peaceful variante would be screenshots you took as decorations for your ship or home-base. The game could simply load pictures from a dedicated folder and display it in pre-defined picture-frames / foto-prints (which would show generic pictures, if the folder is empty).

- The oftentimes requested captains log with a (graphical) representation of your exploration routes and the possibility to take notes. This could be combined with both previous ideas. However, I think that being able to see your souvenirs without the necessity to explicitly open a log would be nice.

i already enplaned that there escape pods

Yes I did read that and yes I do know what their escape pod does and I do even understand you did not mean the commander was inside the escape pod..

My question to you remains the same...

For a trophy to be effective you need someway to keep it so you can view it another time...

As it stands right now, you cannot store a ship with 'cargo' in it and an escape pod would definitely be cargo.

So again I ask you how would we store these pods so we can view them at other times and even get a collection of them :)

What about my proposal? A collection of rescue badges or a special entry in the captain's log (which could be only available if you gathered the pot)?

It would be yet another feature in ED without any meaningful use. Just like materials in horizons. If I could prevent the CMDR from respawning, sure. If this CMDR would lose all its materials from Horizons when the pod got shot, sure. If the CMDR gets a reward for surviving, sure. If it has not a single use, no.

Interesting...

Of course you would only gather the 'nameplates' from commander pods and the NPC's would be 'occupied' so you could sell them as slaves or shoot them and really kill the npc :D

I doubt that many players would relish the prospect of spending an indeterminate period locked in the hold of another player. That's why escape pods "magically" return to the last station.

OH, no, turn them into bobbleheads, and give us a HUUUUUUUGE bobblehead stand like Fallout has!!!

All jokes aside, I am pro this Idea, SAVE! for the NPC's.
Do understand: a pod should take quite a bit of your cargo space.
It's a MASSIVE item, it has not only have to hold your LS, but additionally an engine, fuel, batteries, hell, it would be like 30 cargo space for just one.

Solution: while the player is transferred normally, or "a clone is awoken", the item can be obtainable, much like ears in some games.
Too bad, i never got me an eye, leg or arm.
Latter two would've been the max, since being WEAPONS! XD

Ignore last sentence.

I think it's more on the lines of

i) kill the CMDR in battle

then

ii) collect his escape pod **

equals

iii) killed CMDR name added to your account log (how you display this is a bit of a grey area at the moment)

The defeated CMDR is NOT locked, captured, detained or denied from playing on

Well that's my take on the way the proposal is developing... I could be completely barking up the wrong tree ?

EDIT

** you could expand this part to include delivery to a penal colony/outpost before part iii) can be completed ? just a additional thought
