Wow, I feel famous! ;)

Didn't the FAS write in comms and stop fighting at the end?!

Yes - i believe my comm was "Hahahahah very well done!!"

Jesse30 had blown my powerplant around 45-55% hull, and I was dead in the water... so at that point, my only real option was to congratulate him on a very enjoyable PvP battle, and wait for the coup de grâce.

I expected a fairly easy fight, but my over-confidence was fatal.

Thoughts from the losing side (me):

1. I noticed his shields were down at the beginning, but didn't realize he was running cold and relying more on armor and agility than many people I fight. I noticed this far too late, and always felt like i was struggling to keep up with :):):)-for-tat.
2. Because he went cold several times, my gimbals were useless. I was going fixed whenever i could, but it was very hard to keep my nose pointed on him. That DB is really nimble, and Jesse really is skilled at flying it.
3. My flak cannons were basically worthless; limited range, and weren't doing much damage when they DID hit.
4. I had no idea I'd blown his canopy. He's using a large O2 tank, so it wasn't as fatal as with E-level modules - he just kept on fighting.
5. I suppose I could have rammed him a couple times, but normally I just don't go for ramming. Seems cheap and lacks finesse.
6. Chaff wasn't as effective as I needed it to be. I also should have thrown shield recharge more effectively (I died with 2-3 cells left, I believe).

I learned some new things to remember next time I'm in this sort of situation. Every battle is a lesson, no matter which way it goes.

The vid doesn't show the comms we had after I paid off my insurance and flew back out - he was a very class act, offering some nice words. Win or lose, I enjoy combat with cool people, especially skilled cool people.

Thank you my friend well said. I really enjoyed our fight and I am glad you learned something new from our encounter. I DO learn something new everyday and Ive been around since Beta.

What a dishonorable CMDR, using multiple hull reinforcements!

Everyone knows that true honour is spamming SCBs and shield boosters /s

Its the traders that rattle my cage, stacking those bloody cargo racks, the filthy scum!
:
Nice vids, Jesse. I love watching unorthodox combat. It looks like HRP's now make cold running a viable option.

Jesse my man, it is always a pleasure to watch your videos. Great skill and courage displayed. There is no bigger honour or satisfaction in ED than taking on superior oponents in a small ship and winning through skill alone. You have reminded me of my old days in 1.1 when I beat pythons in my rail cobra. Moments like this are priceless. Keep it up man. o7

It is funny how, I was in a middle of a wing fight last night everybody was using shields less build and Hybrid builds, one guy jumped in a Vulture with his nice looking blue shields and very bright colors. Everyone stopped what they were doing and started shooting at this guy, let me tell you he didn't last a second, shields are the NEW SHOOT me now.

I actually think I ran to your all Rails Cobra gang back in one the very first CGs. I was flying a Clipper and jumped in one of you guys wake to help out some trader, and I lost my shields in like two seconds, you guys were like a bunch of mean pack of mosquitoes. Four very angry Cobras! good times, that was one my first experience against a wing of Players. I will never forget that moment I was pooping bricks.

It seemed as though you didn't use FA OFF. Is that true?

I was generally using FA/OFF for turning assistance. (everything is at least B-rated, using stock hull/armor plating)

The problem with using it more, in this battle, was multi-faceted. Because Jesse was in a much more nimble ship (and can fly it well), I'd normally go FA/OFF to try an compensate for less agility in the FAS, and rely on gimbals. But because he was running cold so often, the gimbals were useless - so I had to go with fixed. Until I bought the FAS, I fought with fixed beams exclusively (so I do know how to paint a target, all things considered), but in the FAS the agility is compromised so gimbals become ... more necessary.

In addition, my Frag Cannons weren't too effective because he was often in the +1K range when I was trying to attack, and they wouldn't lock even if I could get a target.

So in essence, I was having to rely on fixed beams against an opponent who a) can really fly b) had armor that was culling my lasers somewhat and c) was in a ship that could generally out-maneuver me.

In hindsight, I was using Vulture tactics when I should have played to the strength of the FAS - and it was a $2,100,000 mistake. ;)

Am i supposed to be impressed? First off many people have their Conda set up for trading and therefore have low shields/minimal weapons. I have mine A'd out for fighting. I have 4k+ armor over 1k of shields with scb's... I would like to see you try something against me with your DBS, I could literally sit still for 2 mins and you couldnt kill me. Also the fact i have at least double your firepower, it would get ugly quick.

Also the FDL was using turreted/gimbal weapons? lol? Thats a terrible build and speaks volumes. Also when you popped chaff he just kept using tracking, instead of turning if off and firing manually. Dont take this the wrong way, but i would murder you using my FDL, wouldnt even be a fight.

That's a CMDR's choice.

It's also their choice to be flying a trade config, with a WANTED status around people that can take them out.

On a side note, I'd been hunting that same Conda about 10 minutes earlier. Don't recall what distracted me away (probably some attempted interdiction by the Feds), but I never even bothered looking at his config; I just saw he was Wanted and was hoping to engage him.

I don't think anyone is trying to have a test of "who has the biggest manhood". It's simply a demonstration of what happens when "skills meet bad decisions".

Nice one mate. Well done for holding your composure when you lost your cockpit glass. Staying calm and cool is OP... lol And big props to thorn- for taking it like a man, not logging and learning from the encounter. I have a TON of respect for you.

Yeah you certainly made some bad decisions... such as running and doing the old joust. You should have gone right at him, he should be the one running.. You have more firepower, more shields (he has no shields) so every hit has a chance to damage something or make something malfunction. Also i would learn to use fixed weapons, not only does it give you more firepower, but its more fun once you get used to it and gives you a huge advantage PvP. [/QUOTE]

Jones: Thanks man, I appreciate that. I consider combat logging to be the most cowardly choice possible. If you start the fight and lose, take it like man. If you don't start the fight and can't win - learn to escape, it's not impossible. But pulling the network cable is just gutless.

Slack: Like I said, I definitely made some bad decisions... no argument there. Though some (such as my reluctance to ram people) were self-imposed.

Dr Holliday: I generally use B-level O2 for two reason - 1) if canopy is blown, I have 20 mins to spare 2) in a power-starved ship such as vulture or viper, using O2 instead of life support gives you more power for better shields and guns.

That solely depends on a single question.

Did you think about THAT when you bought your life support or did you think I'd stick with E but D is lighter.

In any case, choosing to remain in combat once that glass goes woooshh , and keeping cool about it is good to see..

Seriously, I cannot rep you enough. Sitting there motionless, and letting your powerplant get pounded until you finally explode is one of the most soul crushing experiences you can have in PVP... I have been in that situation myself, and all you do, is just close your eyes and wait for the bang.. lol.. At least you had the guts to come here, share your experience and say hey.. I learned something... Dont worry about what anyone else says, its so easy to sit there and criticize someone after the fact.. You did well, and the most important thing is, YOU LEARNED. Awesome.

What you could do, is message Jessie, and see if you can have a sparing match again, and apply what you have learned.
