Calling all pirates, share your opening pirate spiel with us!

I used to be a trader like you, then I took an arrow to the knee...
You realize what "take an arrow in knee" means, right?
But yes, I confirm that my wife as well does not like when I play Elite for too long...

Outside of the annoyance of their running away scared leaving a trail of cargo I haven't had any issues getting a couple of hatch breakers in before they escape the mass lock. Then I just park and let the collection limplets do their thing. Once I get the donation of cargo I seek I let them go.
And you ended up with what? 20-30 canisters? And how long did it take you to do that? I also assume the security did not show up while you were collecting the canisters and shrinking the line, right?

I understand that there are still a few real pirates out there who do this for fun / roleplay. I also used to enjoy the hatch breakers while I used to fly a Cobra.
But the incentive (and risk!) is non-sense when you fly a Python. I can't play something by simply pretending and role-playing in my head.

Please, do not tell it's fine the way it is and does not need to be improved. The fact that there are so few pirate players out there simply tells the truth, no? :)

You are very very right that it is not about the money or even "worth it" on a time vs real return calculation. I enjoy doing it because I view it more that I am 'offering' my protection services for a small cargo fee. After payment.. willing or forced.. I then allow them safe passage in the very profitable system I work out of.

I would love for it to be improved in meaningful ways so my comment isn't to say it is perfect as is. It just is enough that I enjoy doing it. I get my 20 tons of very valuable cargo either from them dropping it or my taking it. I scoop it relatively quickly (certainly faster than it took them to buy it and fly here) and have never once been bothered by any security.

Worst case I bite off more than I can chew and a player fights back and kills me. That is still fun and I am sure it would be a fun hard fought battle. So until they improve things, there is still fun to be had as long as you aren't expecting it to match other career options in terms of monetary payoff

Initial greeting for traders:

"Please throttle down for a warm greeting from the Code and a harmless cargo inspection."

If bounty hunter/escort shows up:

"Hello party-crasher, if you open fire on me, I can't guarantee the trader's life!"

If a target of interest (suspicious ship/ interdictor carrier in the area of piracy operation):

"Please throttle down, the Code wishes to speak with you."

If all transaction occurred relatively smoothly:

"Thank you Commander, a good day to you from the Code, safe flight."

The key is to be relatively short and concise, since people can't really read a paragraph and comply to it on a timely manner.

I will usually give people a secondary warning after I damage them for not complying.

All marco'ed, but usually I don't have to use anything other than the initial greeting because people run like headless chickens/combat log

Due to the high wake avoiding masslock exploit. On larger ships I shoot the moment I am able to, I take their shields and engines out.

Then I send my demand. "You are being robbed by The Code, Please drop 60 Tonnes Abandoned or Die" Its quite effective.

Unfortunately high wake avoiding masslock exploit is more so, making pirating even more difficult a career path.

Others that don't HW mostly combat log anyway or are already half way through their 15 seconds logout exploit by the time they would have read your demand anyway.

Traders in Open are mostly cheats, yet Pirates get the badge of griefer. ( Dont believe me, watch a pirates Twitch )

Not an exploit.

Official mechanic working as designed

Do not label other players who use a legal mechanic as exploiters using your personal axe to grind.

Do not call them "cheats" for using that legal mechanic.

As expected from you Mr. Wolf, deliciously precise, yet complex. Don't eat me... :)

Isn't 15 seconds enough to easily, 'shuffle them off this mortal coil' ?

Just to help clarify, from my perspective at least, I don't run "like a headless chicken;" I run because when I'm interdicted doing rare trades, participating in community goals, or similar, I'm piloting a Cobra that is specifically designed to do so, while wasting a pirate's time and discouraging their career decisions in an attempt to buy time for others.

I view combat logging as an entirely different issue and an exploit.

Totally exploits, same as logging in and out of modes to refresh missions. Just because they haven't patched it yet, don't stop it being an exploit.
What about Wing Beacon teleporting, that wasn't an exploit until someone shouted enough at the Devs to get it patched.

If you truly believe the devs wrote in a mechanic designed to render ALL PVP encounters pointless, well... Nuff said...

FDEV Board room.

Dev 1 "Guys I have two mechanic ideas to add depth and content to this game. Both of which make the piracy and bounty hunting roles pointless"

Braben "Oh that sounds great. So you are saying that we can make PVP encounters go beyond being meaningful and just really make them a total waste of time?"

Dev 2 "But why are we bothering to design interdictors, the interdiction mini game, weapons, combat mechanics if we never wanted players to fight each other? You do know that is going to happen DAY 1 of release right?"

Braben "No, they wont do that. I remember back in 84 that never happened"

Dev 1 "Exactly, this will make any one wanting to play in a meaningful way with others players just rage and quit after they realise how broken this game is. You are aware we are using P2P as well right?"

Braben "Muhahah rubs hands, once they have bought the game. I will have their money and tell them content is coming SOON.. Muhahahha"

Sarah Jane "Can I give my NPC's the same abilities"

Braben "Silence witch"

Dev 1 "Grinding is the key to this game"

Dev 2 "What is the notice period for this company?

If they arent exploits then NPC's should have the same powers. I wonder how long you would chirp on about how its designed if every NPC target you went after, submitted and 5 second cool down and high waked away or even better just vanished after 15 seconds. That is basically what you are saying.
If its a game design, the NPC's should be able to do it. ( I know they high wake but not instantly after submission )

I don't have to believe anything, it has been stated many times that there is ALWAYS a legitimate way to get out of the combat.

Hiwake is one of them.

That you can't stop a ship from hiwaking is not anyone elses problem. Play harder.

The Voice of Open except for Marra

Hmm, you need to work on your chat-up lines.
Ask your pal Gluttony for some charm lessons - he seems to have the right idea ;)

I'm reformed these days, but when I did I said "hand over teh l00t!". I gave up after one very gracious commander abandoned 16 tons of palladium if I remember correctly and I felt really bad for robbing him. What a lovely chap he was.

Do you even play this game? What a stupid statement.

If you can drop my shields and destroy my FDL in time it would take me to 15 seconds log from interdiction, then you are cheating.

If you can do the same in the time it takes me to cool down and high wake out, then again. You are cheating.

The only ships that this doesn't help are ships it would be worth protecting, if that was the devs intent; Weak starter ships.
What it does is remove ANY risk from the game for someone who knows the exploits, allowing them free reign to be murder hobos.

Get Good. Doesn't apply here.

I am going to prove this in a few weeks when I put a real money bounty on my head and will give wings a time and a place to try and kill me.
If anyone can kill me before I high wake out, I will pay them money into their paypal account.

I don't want to be a Pirate, so not my problem, it is your problem to solve.

Instead, you just whine and whine and whine....

Some Pirate. Stick to knocking over lemonade stands on stations.

There is a chap who frequents the route I "work" and after the first interaction he will ping me and offer cargo every time he comes by. I can't take from someone that polite... he has free reign.
